We have been planning to try out this well-known restaurant. Be honest, it's not my style to pay a lot for a meal and I have been checking if it worths for Zuma. A lot of mixing remarks, some told me the food is not as good before, some told me the dessert is great that not-to-miss and some said fair only not worth the price. We have been planning to try out this well-known restaurant.
Be honest, it's not my style to pay a lot for a meal and I have been checking if it worths for Zuma. A lot of mixing remarks, some told me the food is not as good before, some told me the dessert is great that not-to-miss and some said fair only not worth the price. I decided to try out during the long weekend.
Food:
Appetizer: I have no complain - all the food (ingredients) are the best quality. I seldom eat Sashimi but here, the sashimi is so fresh that not only I tried but I loved it! The sushi is simply GREAT! I couldn't stop! And the home-made Tofu, you can hardly find it anywhere else (It is the traditional Japanese Tofu they are serving). The grill is lovely, don't miss the chicken and the mushroom!
Maincourse:
Both of us chose a meat dish, the meat - supreme quality! You can tell not the culinary skills but the meat itself also can make you a great meal!
Dessert:
May be I had great expectation, I was very disappointed. Dessert - remember - it's just a platter - hence you have limited choice and limited portion. I was expecting more may be hence none of us were happy about that.
Service:
They tried to be attentive and smiley but hiccups - my husband was very upset as they kept on asking us when they should serve our main course (seems like they want the table back). And though my husband kept on saying he wanted it later but still he was being served the main course and he had to cut his appetizer.... that was a bit pissing off. And he was very upset about the coffee tea to be charged as he expected it should be included - well, I would say fair to Zuma, as beverage is where you can get the revenue with this super value brunch.
One great thing to mention - bring you kid there, super children friendly. My child was given colouring pencil when she arrived, they have kids menu (she enjoyed it) and they even have a kids' room to keep her happy while we can enjoy our brunch! Let alone that kids eat free! Sounds great for family, right?!

Finding a Japanese buffet in HK is already unusual. Finding one with Zuma's high quality at a great price was outstanding.

My wife and I celebrated our birthday with family and friends in one of Zuma's private rooms. Since my sister-in-law was treating us, we wanted something that wouldn't cost her too much. The $428 brunch (without alcoholic drinks) was an incredible value: the last time I had lunch at Zuma it cost more than $700, just for myself.

The lunch consists of a buffet, one main course from the menu (some examples in the pictures above) and dessert (which comes in a nice platter if you are in a group). Drinkers can enjoy champagne or sake for an extra charge.

Since I tend to eat a lot, the buffet was my favorite part. A variety of maki (rolls) were available, including veg., tuna, soft-shelled crab, and california. There were also square unagi sushi, very tasty. The sashimi selection included hamachi, kanpachi, tuna, tako, and salmon. The portion sizes are quite small, so it is possible to try a little bit of everything without filling up.

That was only on part of the cold selections. There were also seaweed salads, goma-ae, and seared tuna tataki. A cold soba table was set up, including poached eggs and all of the scallion, ginger, etc. to add into the soba sauce. An interesting offering at the cold table was black sesame tofu; I didn't try any but some of the family did and they enjoyed it. Slices of deep-fried tofu with salad leaves were also available, and they were nice.

Hot food included yakitori skewers, grilled chicken wings, and several other robatayaki e.g. mushrooms. There were some very, very tasty fried chicken kara-age with a sauce that looked like tartar sauce but tasted much better! I kept coming back...

We had to save room for the main course, which was a challenge. But the selections included very tasty glazed salmon, grilled sirloin steak, shrimp and vegetable tempura, and grilled lamb chop. I had the salmon and it was very satisfying, with a light miso-based glaze that did not overpower the flavor of the fish. Others at the table reported good things about the grilled steak and the lamb chop disappeared without complaint. I also tried some of the tempura dishes and the vegetables were fresh and flavorful, without too much batter or too long in the deep fry pit.

For ordinary people without fat expense accounts, this is a great way to enjoy Zuma's food. No surprise, then, that the restaurant was completely full. So much for the recession.

Zuma is really one of the decent restaurants in Hong Kong. The design is awesome, it is a combination of traditional Japanese with Western influences. The service was a little slow to start, but waiter was attentive. All the dishes are in simple presentation, which I like it. The appetizers here taste better than the main dishes. If any of you go there should try the wagyu beef tartare and hamachi roll. Besides this, the drink here is unique, is fulfilled of Japanese ingredients.

Christmas Day 和家人到Zuma食lunch buffet,聖誕節並沒有加價,仍是四百幾一位,平時則嫌貴,聖誕節則變得抵食。如果想包sake和champaign任飲,每位加多百幾元就可以了。自助餐包括很多不同款的壽司、四款刺身、生蠔、冷麵、炸物和煮物。壽司的賣相都非常美觀,令人每件都想試一試。壽司的味道其實不錯,只是飯太乾,像雪過一樣。除自助餐的食物外,還有一些order的食物,如串燒、手卷,沙律、麵豉湯及每人一客的主菜。 串燒的款式不很多,只有雞肉串、雞翼串及蝦串。雞翼串及蝦串都不錯,雞翼串的皮燒掉了脂肪變得脆脆的,蝦串則是原隻蝦燒的。手卷是即叫即做的,見到最多人叫的是軟殼蟹卷,所以也叫了,軟殼蟹份量十足,怪不得這麼受歡迎。沙律很好味,一定要order,重點是車里茄,實在又甜又多汁,實在未吃這麼好吃的車里茄! 主菜方面有五六款選擇,選了燒蝦、汁燒雞和燒sirlon,味道一般但很豐富lor。更多相片:http://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/pathsu/article?mid=376

先說說燒物,由正中央的爐端燒廚房出品,燒香菇、牛柳青椒串、雞翼、帶子及脆肉瓜置在加熱過的靚陶碟上,擺設及微調方面也沒什麼挑剔。這裡燒物不走香口乾身路線,以蔥茸醋汁或芥末柚子汁作點綴,是「鬼佬燒給鬼佬吃」的燒物,就算用上炭火燒效果亦不比炭姬、五味鳥等效果好,始終燒物好講師傅技術。

九十元五串的串燒,是日價錢比起很多爐端燒店更親民,當然亦有心理準備是次一等的貨色。味道不差的有雞翼,做不出鹽燒應有鹽香,皮不焦脆換來濕潤肉質,要靠伴碟的晶鹽補充味道,都不錯;帶子不鮮可幸亦不會覺雪味,似有還無的吃過,記憶最深是芥末柚子汁的味道。牛柳粒是預期的將殘餘物資湊合而成,調味功夫不錯,肉質濕嫩,甜甜的很對口味。處理燒蔬菜不是這裡強項,友人有興趣再來,建議她走醬會可口一點。

友人的甜品併盤,看賣討好,是甜入心的Macaroni、冰鎮朱古力芒果雪葩、六層海綿忌廉蛋糕組合,最欣賞是白朱古配上的芒果雪葩,甜到底的味道撞上「酸咪咪」雪葩配搭得宜,吃完方才串燒後,感覺終於返來了地球,露天環境吃甜品感覺是寫意無比。

意猶未盡,再要了壽司併盤,幾件普通卷物、兩件角切蛋卷、兩件壽司,握功麻麻壽司飯完全沒有鬆軟「空間感」,蛋卷結結實實,反而伴碟的芥末、茗荷比主角更認真。

談過市況後已近黃昏,很想多坐一會,奈何仍有些拋不下的公務要處理,別過朋友後,筆記薄內多了三頁紙的感受,是間幾得意的餐廳,九十元作入場費買個體驗是值得的,當然同樣價錢純吃食物的話Le Soleil「Eat and Go」套餐更吃得過。

Sunday i tried the brunch! there is so much food!!! waaaa i have to hold my belly i eat so much!lots of choices of sushi and starters from the buffet, 5 main courses from the menu and a MASSIVE dessert platter!The charcoal grilled king prawn and the lamb chops were GREAT!make sure you keep some space for the dessert really good.the service was excellent and we had as much sake as we want for only 100$.must try at least once

Honey took me to the Landmark Zuma for our anniversary dinner last friday night. This restaurant has 2 stories, dark, romantic scenic. A lot of foreigners, businessmen and attractive late 20s to mid 30s ladies and gents there to hang out. We checked out the wine menu first. We always go for good Sake. We tried the sake for about 180HKD per bottle, taste floral, crisp and refreshing. Then we ordered Japanese raw tofu, grilled pork, sashimi plater and asparagus and softshell crab sushi. The sashim

The sashimi was very fresh and pretty big portion, five different kinds of fish and 3 pieces each. I love the tofu the best, very fresh, taste the beans. The rest of the food was just ok. It is expensive, don't ask me for how much, ask my honey. The service was great, the waiters speak English pretty good.

I went there to have dinner with my friend last night. Nice ambience, we ordered the 5 kinds of sushi , spicy tofu, grilled abalone, chicken wings, salmon/hamachi maki rolls.Food tasted nice and in small portion, service was reasonable. Overall better than I expected.

For fathers day dinner, we went and try this restaurant cos sis said its very good. The environment is very nice and comfortable, and there are lots of foods that i want to try from the menu but at last we went for the set dinner. It cost $1100 per head and its really worth this price, there are lots of food in this set dinner and the food are very fresh and very nice decorated. Very very nice, cant wait to come again next time, will try some more other things.

We wanted something light last night as the weather was turning warm, so we ended up trying out Zuma. I had eaten lunch once and was less than impressed, and certainly did not think it merited the 99th position in the Top 100 (see http://chi-he-wan-le.blogspot.com/2008/04/restaurant-magazines-top-list-2008.html).Right off the bat, we could see that the waitstaff was really poorly trained. We wanted something light last night as the weather was turning warm, so we ended up trying out Zuma. I had eaten lunch once and was less than impressed, and certainly did not think it merited the 99th position in the Top 100 (see http://chi-he-wan-le.blogspot.com/2008/04/restaurant-magazines-top-list-2008.html).

Right off the bat, we could see that the waitstaff was really poorly trained. They only had two beers on their list - an Asahi and a Kirin. When I asked "Which Kirin is it?" the waitress did not know. She offered to bring the bottle to me so I could identify it myself. Later on during the ordering process, the various staff also clearly did not remember their menu items, and had to rely on us pointing it out so they would know what we were talking about. We also had to ask them not to bring ALL the dishes to us at the same time, because there was clearly no room on the table to fit everything. These people really don't have a clue on how to provide service...

We started with the Zuma green salad - a great combination of mixed greens with deep-fried tofu cubes, ripe cherry tomatoes, beet root and a few petals of chrysanthemum. The dressing tasted like yuzu ponzu which was very enjoyable.

Then there was the veggie roll, a California roll-type maki with carrot, green asparagus, cucumber and avocado wrapped with shiso and sprinkled with black and white sesame on the outside. Dabbed lightly in soy sauce, the fragrance of the sesame, shiso and green asparagus worked well together to create a refreshing taste in the mouth. Cheap (OK relatively...) but delicious.

We also enjoyed the suzuki with yuzu sauce and ikura. The thin slices of seabass sashimi was dripped with the yuzu sauce we love. There were also two slices of eggplant topped with salmon roe. Note that you should not combine the ikura with the suzuki as the yuzu sauce will completely overpower te ikura.

I was a bit surprised by the Zuma nigiri zushi. For HKD 300 you get all of 5 pieces... Granted, you have some upscale ingredients, but it was still a shock when it arrived. I had the wagyu with (caviar?), which I thought was OK but nothing to write home about. The eel was only so-so. The other three pieces were a sad-looking octopus, a tasty-looking scallop topped with yuzu sauce, and a minced toro with truffle sauce. Not likely to order this dish again.

Finally we had grilled eggplant with miso and chilli. Grilled eggplant has always been a favorite dish, but this was interesting. Ignoring the sprinkle of yellow chrysanthemum petals, the combination of miso and chilli reminded me of Chinese spicy bean paste (豆瓣酱). Kinda detracted from the experience a bit.

Having had low expectations, and because we did not order anything premium or outrageously expensive, our experience was actually alright. I know that many people scream about how overpriced this place is, and I would have to agree. If I wanted to splurge for a Japanese meal, Zuma is not a place I would choose. But for a light meal with some salad and greens involved, I thought it was worth returning to.

Totally agreed with kasugu! I went there two weeks ago for a business lunch. Sushi - 4 sushi - mid price fish - hamichi/ Salmon/ Squid. Very small piece.

After that, we decided to order some more A La Carte sushi since we both agreed the portion is not enough!

The A La Carte Sushi was very expensive and taste so so...

The main course was ok

Over all the food quality is nothing compare to the price the charged. The service from the waiter is just average.

The lunch cost me $1400 - we order 2 green tea and one glass of sprinkling water.

I WILL NOT COME AGAIN - not for personal/ business. If someone suggest to treat me here - I will definitely refuse too! It's completely waste of money!

Overall - Best fusion Japanese food I ever tried. Worth to go.

自問並不是個挑剔的人
但是他們營商的手法實在讓人不恥..

簡短紀錄問題如下

1. 擅自替客人加添order —i.e. 樽裝水70+元一樽...在客人不為意及沒有同意的情況下不斷添倒,即使在用餐完畢離開在即之時,這情況更見嚴重,造成不必要的浪費。當晚與朋友十數人臨離開時看見桌上的水杯和賬單上的明細時都大感不滿可是為時已晚

2. 餐牌誤導—我們order 左set dinner 給每一個人,而menu 上列明: sashimi 7 selection ... 我們當然以為是每人都賞到七款刺身,結果卻是非常的出人意表。當我們發現刺身的份量與預期有差異而且根本不能以人數平分,向經理查詢時,經理表現得茫無頭緒,回來向我們解釋時說7 selection 是指4-5 件由他們選擇的刺身喎...

東窗事發,原本放在桌上的menu 不知何時已被他們取回,想必是避免我們進一步的質詢。

3. 上菜手法欠妥讓人混淆—order 左十幾份set dinner 結果上菜時,一時用隻4大碟上,一時用隻5大碟上,一時又用6隻細碟上... 但實質數量相信該與只是數人的份量無異...

份量不足問題其次,做成用餐上的困難問題事大混亂的上菜手法令我們需要把菜碟左擺右擺方可以讓太大家賞到食物。

4. 服務態度差—說句公道的說話,帶位的算是做得幾好夠親切,上菜時都有禮貌..但這些只是基本吧。服務態度的優惡劣該從處理問題看,這方面他們的表現很差,沒有耐性,又有看不起人的態度(這是高級餐館對普通客人常見的情況?)

花這麼長時間寫評語,無非都是想提醒其他食客小心,是自已辛苦賺的錢也好,還是別人慷慨付出也好...落在這麼不值得的地方上實在唔底

如果我去之前有睇過其他人的評語或許就能避免這樣種如被欺騙的經歷了
