Salad is fresh and well balance of thinly sliced onions, crunchy lettuce and corn, with a nice drizzle of vinaigrette.
I had chosen 2 sides as both salads, which makes this meal a decent serving.  The lunch meal also includes a soup - which was less thick that what I'm previously use to.  It a very earthly pumpkin soup - very different from the standard pumpkin soup you'd find at a more western food joint.

The most authentic Peruvian food there is in Hong Kong. Flavors are on spot and so as the environment. All of the dishes are very authentic with the flavors and I highly recommend the ceviche; if your looking for real ceviche. As for the finishing touch, you gotta have the Picarones if you have a sweet tooth (don’t forget to ask for extra sweet sauce called Chancaca).Overall, this is the best Peruvian restaurant that I have had in Hong Kong. Highly recommend it.

Chullschick是一家香港很少見的秘魯菜餐廳,餐廳面積不大,感覺親民,裝修風格具特色。

廚師是土生土長的秘魯人,希望帶給香港人正宗的秘魯味道🇵🇪

We went to Soho and dropped by this Peruvian restaurant! First thing that struck me was that all the chefs were Peruvians! The interior design was also very beautiful, with a colourful and vibrant wall. So we already had really high expectations of the lunch, and gladly it didn’t disappoint!-The 1/4 chicken is really nice! The 1/4 chicken is really nice! It’s marinated with black beer, ginger, garlic, fennel and rosemary for two days, so it has a complex and rich flavour, as well as an appealing aroma! The chicken was very juicy and tender, unlike the usual chicken thighs that are overcooked and firm!

The Argentine steak, on the other hand, was just fair. It’s a bit thin in my opinion. And having tried Argentine steak in a London restaurant that’s visited by Lionel Messi before, I would say the Argentine steak served in this restaurant isn’t too authentic. Perhaps this steak is cooked in the Peruvian style instead? Yet, I like the green sauce on top, as it’s slightly spicy and appetising!

On a side note, many food ingredients in this restaurant are directly imported from Peru, so you can expect the exotic vibe and feel like travelling in Peru in this restaurant!

大家應該都知道中上環附近有好多多國菜~今次就去試近半山位置 在中環扶手電梯附近的一間秘魯菜餐廳食晚餐。門口有特色秘魯人生活壁畫~餐廳最出名的就是招牌秘魯燒雞!而且好貼心為各獨身男女準備¼份😂另外亦有半份及全隻選擇,當日與友人兩個人點選了半份的燒雞。燒雞可選擇配菜:¼份可選一款配菜;半份可選兩款。我們按照網上的推介,點選了蒜蓉飯及番薯。(沙律是錯誤地先上,店員當額外附送了😅)先介紹燒雞,半份的份量不少,並非法國春雞的大小~香料也十分入味很有中亞特色!另外即使雞胸的部份也不會覺得很老/很鞋口,雞髀位好滑😋再講配菜,番薯大份好甜好粉,非常好食!蒜蓉飯比泰國米更粒粒分明,而且有真正的蒜香十個推介!另外也點了一個也是網上推薦的前菜:海鱸魚他他薯蓉剛上菜時以為這不是我點的😂但原來橙色的就是薯蓉;白色的是海鱸魚,味道很夾,也很推介!兩個人,兩款菜,滿足!完全飽!餐廳也提供lunch Menu在附近上班族值得一試!

剛上菜時以為這不是我點的😂但原來橙色的就是薯蓉;白色的是海鱸魚,味道很夾,也很推介!

醃生鱸魚 $148(sea bass ceviche)新鮮嫩口,酸汁與紅洋蔥格外開胃,我們開始了就停不下來,這麼大份的生魚幾分鐘內一口氣吃完了。紅菜頭薯仔湯比較上鏡,面上剛煎好的蒜泥綠蔥極香,湯的味道也不錯,但因澱粉超標所以只能淺嚐幾口。由於我們點了週末的brunch,所以湯是包在套餐裡的(分別為1/4烤雞套餐$88、安第斯燒烤牛排套餐$138)。

秘魯烤雞(Pollo a la brasa)用了特別的醬料(salamuera)醃製兩日,之後在炭火上慢烤一兩個小時到皮脆肉嫩,再風乾半小時。微脆的雞皮鎖住了香料和雞肉的水分,而且雞腿皮薄肉嫩少脂肪,每一口都很香口,想添加一些辣味也可以沾秘魯黃辣椒醬。Salamuera除了鹽還有蒜、孜然、俄勒岡(oregon)、甜辣椒(paprika)、香醋和黑啤酒,比例就不得而知了,只知道結果:好味+入味。本來我還用刀叉扮斯文,後來決定直接用手,這樣才吃得盡興。生菜(mixed salad)也很新鮮。合共$88(平日1/4隻 $88,半隻$140,一隻$278,每四分一隻烤雞包一個side dish及黃辣椒醬)。

這個安第斯燒烤牛排套餐為$138,看到價錢就知道不能夠是很高級的牛排。但它的特別之處在於面上的阿根廷chimichurri醬(與pesto不同,綠色素來自parsley和oregano而不是basil),除了紅酒醋帶來的微酸,還有濃香的蒜味和香草,我可以直接用匙勺吃這個醬。牛排本身也烤得相當脆香,不過下次來應該不會再點這個燒烤牛排了,它並非秘魯菜,反而我們想嘗試一下慢燉牛肋骨或傳統炒肉眼牛柳,這些都是更有秘魯特色的菜式。

這個是Chullschick的自家製香料飯,非常香啊!雖有炒香的小蒜頭顆粒和其他神秘香料,但完全不油,軟綿綿之餘也是有咬勁的白飯。(香料飯是烤雞或其他套餐的side dish,不額外收費。)

最近因為太無聊同男朋友開展咗一個全新project-食均全世界就係喺香港食唔同地方嘅食物~第一站就嚟到秘魯~好奇心驅使我叫咗杯Tiger milk嚟試吓,只能講好奇真係會害死貓🤣第一啖食落去,酸到懷疑人生,後來上網查先知係citrus-based 嘅汁,可以用嚟醒酒🙈講返入面啲料先,有魚生,炸粟米粒同洋蔥,成個組合好難頂😭海鱸魚他他配上薯蓉口感同味道清新和諧,中間仲有牛油果醬同olive醬烤雞本身都辣辣地,我要靠果汁先堅持到落去🤣好就好在佢唔會太乾辣得嚟又幾惹味配菜就揀咗蕃薯,上面仲有肉桂粉,食落有種甜品feel杯飲品用紫粟米,菠蘿同香料整,都幾好食又解辣第一站嘅秘魯菜令我進入新世界,人生就係有伏有驚喜🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

烤雞可選擇四分一隻半隻及全隻,很貼心,適合不同人數的份量, 配菜四揀二,有沙律、蕃薯、薯條、香料飯, 烤雞香味撲鼻 ,皮脆肉嫩 ,一切開充滿肉汁, 蕃薯烤得香又甜,果然係招牌菜必食推介。

傳統秘魯醬炒牛柳配飯及薯條
雖然賣相似茶餐廳碟頭飯,加上太陽蛋,但牛柳鮮嫩有肉味,唔會煮過火, 配上洋蔥及蕃茄, 一個不錯的配搭。

秘魯紫粟米汁$58
店員介紹紫粟米汁在秘魯受歡迎, 隨處可見,普遍情度好像香港的檸檬茶一樣, 與想像中的不同,有少許肉桂味,帶酸甜, 朋友話似紫背天葵的味道。

行去蘇豪睇下有咩冇咁貴嘅食店,行行下就見到有間食秘魯菜嘅,心血來潮就想去食佢有個brunch同regular menu,我地就食相對平d嘅brunch,以雞為主舖頭裝飾都幾得意,有好多幅壁畫我叫左1/4隻雞配蕃薯同沙律,佢仲有香料飯同薯條比你揀,前菜就有個蘑菇湯個湯味道唔錯,好明顯食得出係磨爛d菇黎煮嘅,唯一缺點係唔算好夠熱,沙律份量好多,蕃薯更加比左兩大舊🤣一d都唔會好dry,隻雞好滑身,用好多香料去醃同有微辣,點埋黃色個醬就一流男朋友叫左雞三明治,味道上就好似牛油果沙律醬撈雞肉咁,唔算太特別如果下次再食就會試個regular menu

個湯味道唔錯,好明顯食得出係磨爛d菇黎煮嘅,唯一缺點係唔算好夠熱,沙律份量好多,蕃薯更加比左兩大舊🤣一d都唔會好dry,隻雞好滑身,用好多香料去醃同有微辣,點埋黃色個醬就一流

As a six-foot-something hulking Colombian, Carlos is not a man you argue with. 

We work in Quarry Bay where there’s quality eatery abound. From the more agreeable chain restaurants, to over-priced client entertaining joints, to hygienically satisfactory mom and pop shops; there’s probably no greater concentration of interesting lunch spots in Hong Kong
                                                                                                  
“Where do you want to go Carlos? La Rotisserie? Sen-Ryo? We could even walk to Big Bite?”
“No, man, I got a treat for you”
“Cool, where are we going… there are no restaurants that way… that’s a taxi rank… oh, we’re getting in a taxi”

As a Colombian who has been shot at three times and stabbed once, Carlos is not a man you argue with. 

No, my creative compadre thinks nothing of a thirty-minute taxi ride on a busy Wednesday lunchtime. 

After our half-hour traffic stunted journey, we pull up to an unassuming storefront at the top end of Graham Street. Despite the long queues of chirpy young office workers that hung out of Soho’s more fashionable restaurants, our destination, Chullschick is half full and we sit straight down. 

Chullschick is Hong Kong’s authentic Peruvian outpost. 

Our wooden table gently rocked on three legs. Machu pichu and Cholas murals were painted on the terracotta wall. And the sound of Latin crooners filled the air. It’s all very reassuring. 
This was not a restaurant with something to prove and therefore, not a restaurant that was likely to overwhelm or disappoint. 

Looking around, many people we’re digging into the eponymous chicken. On another day a whole bird and plate of chips would have rendered me very content. But Carlos was ordering and, as you’ve no doubt now realised, Carlos is not a man you argue with. 

We ordered three dishes. 

The first, Lomo Saltado, was a fantastically daft dish that looks looked like it had designed by a six-year-old on a sugar high. Fries, rice, egg, beef, tomato and onion were all stir fried and piled onto a single plate. 

This Peruvian staple has a distinctively Chinese bent courtesy of a rich soy-based sauce. Part BBQ sauce, part gravy, part tears of a fallen angel who wound up in a South-American protein orgy, the liquid that bound the unlikely cast of ingredients had incredible depth. The juicy chunks of tenderloin were relegated to the sidelines by the oyster sauce and molasses of the black liquor, while rice and fries became mere absorbent vessels for it.

The name and description of our second dish, Duck Rice, didn’t really do justice to its end result. 

The entirety of the plate was covered in deliciously viscous rice, turned swampy green thanks to a aromatic blend of coriander and spinach. On top of which perched confit duck leg and smoked duck breast. The breast was sweet, pink and succulent without it’s fat being clammy or cloying. The leg confit was nice enough. There was an unnecessary egg.

Our third and final dish was Peruvian Grill. Hunks of chicken, steak, chorizo and sweet potato arrived sizzling on a stainless steel platter. The baked sweet potato was fragranced with cinnamon and a light scorching of the skin. The meat was jovial and juicy, swimming in it’d own garlic imbued swine, bovine and poultry nectar.

“What are you talking about, man?”
“How much did it cost?”
“Ah, don’t worry about it, man. You can get it next time”

As a generous man who never lets you pay – even next time, Carlos is not a man you argue with. 

Plodding down Graham street’s decline with gravity taking a greater toll on forward momentum due to full a tummy and lethargic legs, I felt happy. And what’s the point of food – beyond sustenance of life – if not to make us happy.

Slouched, smiling and gurning like smacked-up addict in the returning taxi, I had a chance to reflect on our mood-altering meal and a year of eating out. 

Looking back over my 2019 reviews, there’s a lack of restaurants that made me feel this happy. Uncomplicated restaurants that deliver big plates of big flavours with a complete lack of pretence and artifice. Restaurants like Chullschick, Serendib and Northern dumpling Yuan are a remedy for sadness, and I should seek them out with greater fervour.

I don’t really go in for new year’s resolutions, but in 2020 I’m going to make it my mission to find simpler restaurants that put a smile on my face.

We ordered three dishes plus dessert tonight and everything was delicious. However I have to say the rotisserie chicken, which is their signature dish, really stood out. It was tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. I loved that it comes with two side dishes as well, and I enjoyed the homemade rice more than I thought I would! The churros were also excellent, clearly fresh out of the fryer and was nice and warm when served. The server was also friendly and attentive and I was very pleased with
