一個好簡單和很重要的重點,知道一碟雙拼燒味飯價錢是$55元,但未試過這店就去試一下,叫了一碟雙拼燒味飯。1分鐘就準備好,賣相不錯的,點知一開始品嘗後發現一個大問題,就是米飯太林了。配4切白切雞和4切差燒,這情況真的無心機再吃下去。 但點都吃多2淡,挨多10分鐘就賣單去了。 四週看看,牆上都是報紙報道,但望返自已碟野。只是一個不幸! 不想再來了。

店內空間不算太多,沒有想像中的一瓶瓶蛇,倒是有點小店風情,以老伙計為主,感覺有一分人情味在,但稍嫌態度不如想像般的呢……值得一讚提的是上菜速度相當迅速。

有不少食物也想點的,剛好看到餐牌上有一個2人餐,正好想吃都包括了,5百多塊的價錢,再零點一些便好了。

蜜瓜螺頭燉湯:早有聽過食友的推薦,蛇王芬的燉湯很有準,的確喝後便知道是是有着令人相當滿意的水準。燉湯款式相當不少,這次喝到的是一款冬季的湯品,喝後很有滋潤感,湯頭有一分真材實料的甜味,確是很讚。

蝦仁炒蛋: 大家也覺得這個蝦仁炒蛋相當好吃呢,蛋夾起來不會散掉,但入口是很滑的,也挺有蛋香,還有顆顆的大蝦在,讚! 套餐的點這個要加$50, 單點的話是$160, 是不算是便宜的價錢,但很有水準。

西檸雞: 這賣相不算是太突出,整個雞皮的感覺是很突出,很脆身,分外喜歡那酸甜汁,也醒胃。只是說雞肉的質量不太厚身,喜歡這個質感強烈一點的話,這個可能會沒那麼對胃口。

生炒糯米飯: 分量相當足,糯米飯做得相當的惹味,內有兩款的臘味粒,飯粒顏色是相當均勻,有越吃越想吃的感覺,好吃。

雙腸煲仔飯:奇怪的是好像餐牌上沒有這個雙腸煲仔飯的選項,但一問之下原來還是狼的呢! 淋豉油的一刻往往也是重點,一條條的雙腸吃很確是比一粒粒的來得滿足,吃後有很暖身的感覺,其實這個也非常不錯,只是相較之下,是糯米飯比較優勝。餐牌上 還有個荷葉飯,有機會的話,也可以吃吃看的吧。

白切雞飯: 沒有特別點,但吃到的都是雞背的部位,只有一件雞胸肉,也真幸運,雞皮下沒有過多的脂肪,雞質夠紥實,光吃白飯是有點太清淡,不妨以一點薑蓉伴飯,也是相當有水準的,薑味不太重,有點鹹鹹香香的。

完成蛇王芬的晚餐,吃得飽足,雖說店名是蛇王芬,但其實有不少別的也值得吃的,吃得滿意,畫上一個滿足的句號,人均消費是一百多,接近200塊的價位,也真化算。

We sat down at Ser Wong Fun ("Snake King Fan") in Central without knowing what to expect, just thinking this to be another one of those snake soup diners. We were surprised when we found out that the restaurant had been serving snake soup for over 100 years. Snake soup is one of Hong Kong's oldest and traditional winter Cantonese delicacies, usually served with shredded meat of two types of snakes boiled in a thick soup.

Located next to the escalators in Central, you would not be able to miss its bright neon light sign. The restaurant, however, does not have a reservation policy and only allows walk-ins. And even so, be prepared to share a table with other fellow diners. We arrived at the restaurant a little after 6 p.m. on Sunday, and there were already a line-up outside. The decor was like most other traditional Chinese eateries--cramped, uncomfortable but laid-back. Be aware that English translations weren't provided for all the items on the menu. Dinner costs around $150 to $300 per person.

(1) We ordered the 太史五蛇羹Assorted snakes banquet ($95/bowl) which was served with slices of snake meat, abalone, chicken, shredded ginger, mushroom, agaric, and fish maw and it was a real gem! The thin shredded black snake was bathed in a finely cooked soup with other delicious ingredients which provided a decadent and magnificent taste. Although D thought that the taste was not as strong as the snake soup from Se Wong Yee, we were very satisfied by this delightfully authentic and hearty rendition of snake soup.

(2) The 特色臘味糯米飯Preserved sausages in sticky rice ($110/small) was another invigorating dish. The preserved Chinese sausages were also a specialty of the restaurant. The pork sausage ("Lap Chang") and the duck liver sausage ("Yun Chang") were tender and fatty. The aroma and texture of the sticky rice were enticing, and after it had absorbed the flavours from the meats within, it became a truly decadent dish.

(3) The 大蝦蒜香荷葉籠仔飯 Steamed special fried rice with dry braised prawns ($160) was Al's special order. This type of rice was steamed while wrapped within the lotus leaf. The rice had a lovely, soft texture without being sticky. The generous portion of the dry braised prawns were fantastically springy and fresh, and gave a lot of fragrance to the dish.

If the service and ambience of Ser Wong Fun are perfunctory, the splendid and warm traditional Cantonese dishes gave the restaurant unexpected weight, particularly the snake soup and the preserved sausages in sticky rice, which managed to goose this otherwise small and cramped run-down place and capture a palpable notch of authentic Chinese dishes.

十二月二十三日 (星期一)上一回在附近吃過超難吃的大褔屋,心有打算,也要來蛇王芬一趟中午時段,人很多,很容易才找到兩個位,這個時間,主打燒味...义燒瀨粉,义燒實在是瘦了一點味道不夠蜜甜,實在有點失望燒鵝飯,十多元加一條臘腸皮不算香脆,鵝肉挺香嫩,帶點羶香,算不錯罷人家說這由裡的潤腸好吃,可惜Billy只愛臘腸,不愛潤腸入口,薄薄的腸衣,肉味香濃,肥瘦比例也恰好美中不足,飯真的稔得很,沒口感~不過,是次沒吃蛇羹燉湯,未見真章!

Little introduction is needed to this classic and arguably monumental piece of Hong Kong's culinary scene. At 70 odd years of operating, this restaurant is older than most readers here. So at $450 for a two-person set dinner, which includes two soups, two main dishes, and one rice-based dish, I think the price is reasonable - you're also paying for a piece of history! (Wasn't me paying for that history though

There is no denying that Ser Wong Fun serves up a gorgeous Snake Soup (蛇羹) - it convinced my friend, who normally is reluctant to this dish, to fully embrace it, fall in love with it, and devote the rest of her life to its betterment (I might be exaggerating...). The soup is balanced with warm flavors and the pungent lemongrass, while the consistency is closer to a normal soup rather than being an over-starched paste. And good news for the hungry! The bowl although seemingly small, is brimming with strands of chicken, mushroom and snake; and topped with crunchy fried dough strands (薄脆). Yum!

Next up was the Sautéed Fish Belly with Dried Bean Curd in a Clay Pot (枝竹魚腩煲). Consistent with the soup, the pot was generously filled with piping hot chunks of fried fish belly, mushrooms and bean curd sticks. Flavors were mild, and coating of the fried fish was a bit to the soggy side. A highlight was the roasted garlic, which gave the dish a needed kick. A dish with hits and misses but overall quite standard.

Our other main was the Stir fried String Beans with Dried Shrimp and Pork (蝦乾肉碎炒四季豆). A well executed dish - the three ingredients (exactly those described in the name, no more no less) were wicked dry of excessive moisture and had an addictive saltiness to it, the perfect complement to a bowl of soft fluffy rice!

The highlight of the night, Chicken with Preserved Liver Sausage Clay Pot Rice (潤腸滑雞煲仔飯), ticked all the right boxes. Rich, juicy and tender sausages; a lot of chicken; and fragrant rice with crispy burnt bits at the bottom. Although I would have preferred the bottom to have a larger burnt surface, it was still one of the most satisfying winter foods I've had this year (em...14 days). This is the epitome of Cantonese comfort food: simple ingredients, robust flavors, and beautifully done rice!

By reading its Chinese name, what's you should order there is too obvious - Snake Soup.
The snake soup serves by bowl or by pot, priced from $80 (bowl price). It's not cheap while for tasting price, it is acceptable for ordering two bowls and share among three. I do think one bowl for one person is too much, don't misunderstand I mean the size, it's all about 'heatiness/heaty' inside body.
The soup has not plain presentation, dressing with fried bean curd skin, herbs and pepper powder. Texture is semi-sticky and the whole bowl is full of black fungus slices and snake meat slices. It has a strong pepper spicy taste, snake meat tastes just similar to chicken chest part. Other dressings enrich the whole eating experience to be more crispy.

Chinese Sausages with vegetable
Light pink one is more popular, Chinese (marinated) Sausage, normally made of fatty pork parts and dried. Black brown one, Bloody Sausage, another evil food from pig-family. The texture of them differentiates a lot. Ordinary one is harder and denser, you can feel obvious dried pork texture when chewing, and those sweet but a little greasy sauce is squeezed out while chewing in your mouth. I prefer Bloody Sausage not only it's rarely served as seasonal food, but also its super soft and muddy texture with a strong mixed flavor of liver and intestines... omg... sounds so horrible and disgusting

See how much I like those sausages?! Another full dish of Chinese Barbecue Meats and Sausages with Rice. It's just sweet, sweet, and sweet with special soy sauce and bling bling oily and greasy barbecue pork ribs on the rice. Well colored meats with well dressed flavor, chewy but soft texture, with semi-soft rice, simple but super satisfying. Of course, sausages make the whole dish more outstanding. What's more? This dish is a good deal regarding to the price and the taste and the location (Central!), especially so many ordinary restaurants are raising prices now.

蛇羹很重的檸檬味,很清爽。雞肉絲也蠻有較勁,加了香菇雖然沒有看到蛇,也沒有蛇味,但是味道讚,料也很足。羹的質地半透明粘稠,很爽口。差不多9點去到,人真的很多,都是搭台坐在一起。豆腐煲裡的雞肉加了蝦醬,很下飯。夥計真的很忙,點單叫了差不多5次,又漏了一個蛇羹。我叫到點單的時候,隔壁比我們後來的已經在抹嘴了。叫夥計除非你叫到整間店都聽到,否則沒人理你。

蛇王芬, 一間不見蛇的食店, 高官, 明星, 名人, 食家都曾經是其食客, 2014年米芝蓮車胎人美食。經常做路人甲的我, 未曾入內品嘗, 趁天氣凍凍地去試其出名的腊味飯。幸運地不用等位, 安頓後, 在座位側看到蔡瀾推薦四個字, 蔡生新加坡出生, 祖籍廣東潮州, 都算半個中國人, 中國人跟洋人口味有所不同, 此店是兩者都叫好, 就用自已的口和胃來量度一下。鴛鴦腸飯 爽脆的鴛鴦腸吸引了不少食客慕名而來, 鴛鴦腸口感一流, 臘腸一條, 膶腸二條, 臘腸肉汁香濃, 味道甘香, 肥瘦比例剛好, 腸衣脆薄, 好吃 !!!  膶腸甘香鮮美, 酒味香濃, 同樣好吃。和熱熱的白飯一齊, 冬日至愛。叉燒飯  叉燒包滿麥芽糖和蜜汁, 富有口感, 肥瘦適中為最好, 今次的叉燒比較瘦, 不太入味, 麥芽糖和蜜汁不夠, 個人有小小失望。濕炒牛河 牛河冒著的熱氣, 芡汁可以, 有鑊氣, 算低油, 但味道沒什麼特別, 牛肉都可以, 有牛味。腊味飯有水準, 期望和結果等同, 約50元物有所值, 米芝蓮車胎人美食及蔡瀾推薦果然沒有介紹錯, 喜歡腊味的朋友值得一試。據悉小菜和燉湯同樣精彩, 有機會再到此品嘗試食。

爽脆的鴛鴦腸吸引了不少食客慕名而來, 鴛鴦腸口感一流, 臘腸一條, 膶腸二條, 臘腸肉汁香濃, 味道甘香, 肥瘦比例剛好, 腸衣脆薄, 好吃 !!!  膶腸甘香鮮美, 酒味香濃, 同樣好吃。和熱熱的白飯一齊, 冬日至愛。

一心想試呢間飯店好耐,什麼老字號又咁多人讚好,食物不外如是,服務每個侍應生都黑口黑面加好悔氣.首先叫左二人套餐,蛇羮一般無特別,再黎臘腸煲仔飯,豉油無味,臘腸勁硬,雞勁乾.南乳雞煲係全晚至好,但好油,勝在南乳夠濃.最後紅燒豆腐,同茶餐廳小菜無分別.我仲叫左個咸蛋三寶飯打包,都係好難食.D叉燒勁乾,唔知燒左好耐?離譜~!

叫多個鴛鴦腸飯, 個飯冇汁好dry, 只係靠腊腸潤腸嗰d油去濕潤個飯, 之但係呢2條腸油份都唔多... 所以好睇嗰d腸嘅質素, 好彩腊腸潤腸都非常香, 腸衣薄脆得一咬即破, 腊味豐富, 亦唔會好油膩, 個人覺得潤腸比較好味, 配啖白飯都唔錯~

不愧為老字號, 燉湯同蛇羹以至腊味都非常有水準, 唔怪之得可以貴為遊客必到之處~ 亦可能係呢d老字號嘅關係, 侍應嘅服務都維持喺舊時嘅階段, 十問九唔應, 落單叫幾次先叫到人, 其餘時間可以話係冇服務, 如同自助一般... 雖然係咁, 下次仲有機會, 我都會想試下個煲仔飯~

十月下旬•睛秋風起,想起的就是中環閣麟街的蛇王芬。趁周日,帶同小朋友,一家三口來探吳老太。叉燒一貫的出色,臘腸及潤腸都一流。再來炆斑尾及芋頭扣肉砵,滿意也飽足。 最貼心的還是一盅海底椰雪梨蜜棗燉豬𦟌,夠火路,甜美,暖在心頭。

秋風起,想起的就是中環閣麟街的蛇王芬。

趁周日,帶同小朋友,一家三口來探吳老太。

叉燒一貫的出色,臘腸及潤腸都一流。再來炆斑尾及芋頭扣肉砵,滿意也飽足。
 
最貼心的還是一盅海底椰雪梨蜜棗燉豬𦟌,夠火路,甜美,暖在心頭。

一些香港的味道,要嘗一碗肉味與飯香兼備的切雞飯,如大海撈針,主理人堅持找來有鮮味不「霉口」的靚雞,加上兩代交情才取得的靚米,軟熟又有米香,簡單好吃有時亦真的不簡單。

Even though the weather has been so hot, I have had the strangest craving for Chinese liver sausage and lap cheong. Just on the slope of Cochrane st, Ser Wong Fun is unassuming on the outside, but the interior is surprisingly pleasant, like that of a traditional Chinese tea house. It was very busy for a weeknight full of families and couples, but luckily there was still a table available for two when we went in.
We were not particularly hungry, so we just ordered a few dishes to share.
Soup was of course on the agenda and the variety of combinations they offer is quite impressive. I chose the papaya with pork and almonds, while Mr. C picked mollusk and chicken feet. The ingredients are put into individual ceramic pots and then boiled till all the essence comes out resulting in an immensely concentrated and fragrant broth. Really really good~

Rice with mixed lap cheong and liver sausage. The sausages are quite small in size, but their flavour really packed a punch. Most places have a higher lard to meat ratio since it is a cheaper alternative, but the ones here at Ser Wong Fun had more meat, giving a sturdier texutre, while still retaining a richness from the few scattered chunks of lard throughout the sausages. Perfect pairing with white rice~

Lettuce cooked with fermented bean curd and chili strips. The sauce made from the bean curd was quite thick and oily, but the slight saltiness was a good complement to the lettuce. I have not had my vegetables cooked in this way for a long time, so it was good to taste flavours like this again.

Such a simple meal, but it hit the spot exactly! They are actually renowned for their other dishes too like snake (hence the name of the restaurant
), so another visit is definitely necessary~

早前一個天氣涼快的晚上經過蛇王芬,便決定入內吃個暖身晚餐。店內環境光猛,衛生整潔。雖然要搭枱,但坐得不算太逼。這夜只有我一人吃飯的關係,不點小菜了,簡簡單單點碗蛇羹($85)和一碗鴛鴦腸飯($45)就好了。蛇王芬的蛇羹一向不太'羹',不會太杰,我覺得其實較像湯。蛇羹內有不少雞絲,瘦肉絲,木耳絲和冬菇絲等。湯底味道甜美,喝得舒服。雙腸飯有臘腸和膶腸各一小條,兩款都油潤鮮甜,送飯一流。兩款腸都好吃,其中甘香的潤腸稍為較得我歡心。工作了一天,放工有餐暖笠笠的蛇羹和臘腸潤腸飯吃,滿足!
