Boyfriend and I were here trying to find an Indonesian restaurant listed on Openrice but apparently, it had closed down. Thinking of a back up lunch plan, we saw this place that had a take away counter that was selling various Indonesian snacks. Thinking of moving on, I noticed a staircase in the back and we walked downstairs. Located in the basement is an Indonesian restaurant with a good number of Indonesians eating there.

We sat down and looked at the menu. Menu was in Indonesian with a few items translated in Chinese. A waitress came over to help us as we looked bewildered. She spoke Chinese and patiently answered our questions about what was this and what was that. She recommended a few items for us and we gave this place a try.

Es Rambutan ($28). This was super sweet. It was like drinking liquid sugar. I didn't expect it to be this sweet so I didn't really like it.

Es Cendol ($30). This is what boyfriend chose and it was much better though still on the sweet side. It was rich in coconut milk.

The jelly was in strands and were different sizes so we suspected this place probably made it themselves. The jelly were not very chewy but soft. I liked this drink a lot more.

Kwetyo Goreng Ind ($58). This was something we saw the table next to us eating so we did like what every tourist does ... point and say "yeah...what they're having". When we order this in usual Chinese cha chan tengs, it looks yellow in color as they color it with curry powder. This place didn't douse it with curry powder. But it was also a lot more spicy than what I was used to. The noodles were a wonderful mix of salty and spicy. Not too oily. The pickles were super spicy as well. I didn't expect that.

Nasi Rendang ($65). The rice was soft and fluffy. The beef was moist and fell easily apart with my fork but again SUPER spicy. I think I've been eating phoney Indonesian all my life because I don't recall anything to be spicy. This was so spicy, it just stayed in my mouth for what seemed like forever. There was strong mix of various spices which made this dish smell fantastic.

There is no service charge and you pay at the cashier at the front. Service was friendly and very helpful. A great find in an unexpected place. Food was quite good though a bit more expensive than the competing other Indoesian restaurants in the area. Place was clean and tidy though not enough air conditioning. I think they didn't have any but just some huge fans. Would return again.
