I have (rather unfortunately) stumbled upon this place when going for lunch with a friend Mr. PL. I've heard from my locust friend about the Wooloomooloo steakhouse in Central and its bargain lunch but never realised that it has a branch here on the 31st floor of the Hennessy. So when I discovered this Wooloomooloo when wandering in Wan Chai waiting for Mr. PL I decided to drag him along to try this place.

Trying to get to this restaurant was a bit of a challenge. The lift which took us up to 31/F had two doors, and apparently the door which opens depend on the buttons on which side of the lift you pressed. Unfortunate for us, those in the lift pressed the button on the wrong side and it took us minutes of going up and down before finally getting to the restaurant.

The view from such a height was amazing. At 31/F this restaurant was located easily higher than the roof of a lot of buildings in Wan Chai and from where we sat we had an almost unobstructed view of Kowloon Bay. Not the most gorgeous view in Hong Kong but not bad at all.

"Executive" Lunch set was for $148 + 10% so of course choices were limited. There was a choice of appetizer or clam chowder, then a choice of three mains -- steak (sirloin), fish (salmon) or pasta (spaghetti bolognaise). We both chose the clam chowder (the appetizer didn't sound tempting at all) and this being a steakhouse, we both chose the sirloin. As usual (and as expected), the waiter tried to sell us bottled still / sparkling but we went for tap.

Before the chowder arrived we were served this HUGE bread which looked the same as the one in the Central Wooloomooloo. Bread was hot when served and was soft inside. Herb butter was served soft. Thumbs up for the bread.

The plain-looking clam chowder was served in a small metal pot and looked rather uninspiring. However, the chowder was full of flavour and was rather nice. Hidden at the bottom of the pot were the (meat from) half a dozen (probably frozen) clams. Not bad!

The steak, however, was a big disappointment. This being a steakhouse I definitely would expect them to do better. Unlike the clam chowder, presentation was lacking to begin with, and from its looks alone one could tell that the chef wasn't paying his full attention to making a good dish. The sauce was all over the place and the steak was lazily slapped onto the mesh. There was a choice of 4 mustard which was fair, but one would at least expect it to look a bit more refined.

All that would have been fine if the steak was good. And it wasn't. We asked for the steak to be made medium-rare and as shown in the photo above it was pink throughout -- closer to medium-welldone I'd say. And I hate welldone steak. Looking back I probably should have sent it back to the kitchen. So from the rather nice bread and good clam chowder, the meal took a big plunge here. The cut probably wasn't that good either, and when combined with it being overcooked, I found it tough to cut even with the steak knife. The sauce (mushroom something... couldn't be asked to properly taste it by then... was too disappointed by the steak) did not add to the already weak flavour of the steak and instead almost covered it up. The only explanation was that the chef was well aware that the steak wasn't any good and was trying to cover up the lack of quality and flavour with this rather strong sauce. The mesh wasn't much better either. It could have been smoother and better seasoned (its flavour was weak) but was by far the better part of this main course.

For drinks I asked for hot coffee (Mr. PL ordered iced coffee, as can be seen in the background). At the beginning it looked promising but the first sip revealed the truth -- it wasn't much good either. Now I'm no expert in coffee, having just started drinking it a few months ago, but even I can tell this coffee was either cheap or poorly made -- even my daily breakfast coffee from DELIFRANCE taste much better. It was strongly sour and bitter and devoid of the aroma I'd relate with coffee (sorry, no idea re. notes / aftertaste / texture etc...)

The biscuit that come with the coffee was an annoyance, to say the least. I was trying to break it in half when moaning about the poor quality of the coffee, and before I knew it, I've showered myself in crumbs of the biscuit. It was so powdery and dry that I broke it in to the many pieces shown in the photo above, in one go. A bite of the remaining pieces confirmed that the biscuit was dry, powdery and mostly tasteless. Frankly, if you can't be asked to make the coffee and biscuit properly as a part of the "executive lunch", don't bother to include it. I'd rather have to pay for a cup of coffee instead of being served something like this.

At this price and environment, and had it not for such a poorly made steak, this would have been a bargin. Obviously those working in Wan Chai are aware of the quality of food here -- the place was never completely full when we had lunch. Mind you, we ate from 12:30 to 13:40 which should cross the lunch hour of most office workers here and the restaurant was almost empty at the beginning and around 1/3 full when we left. It is quite a shame because given the bargain steak lunch price, good location, comfy environment and a lack of steakhouses in the area, this could easily be a restaurant fully booked for every lunch service.

What I can say is, if you really, desperately want to eat in a Wooloomooloo steakhouse, go to the one in Central.

我倆被安排坐在海景位,猶幸晚上的能見度高,對著海景用膳也份外舒服.她的胃口不大,只要餐湯和沙律便可,我則來個餐湯,加個牛扒,餐酒可免,什麼有/無氣礦泉水也不要,只要暖水.很多人上餐廳煞有介事,怕遭受白眼而不敢開口說要水喉水,最後喝了兩三瓶礦泉水,單是水費也嚇了一跳.但是如果說成暖水,感覺會好一點.

首先奉上的餐包,大得一隻手也"渣唔晒",新鮮滾熱辣,還正在冒煙當中,入口非常之鬆軟,塗些香草牛油實在很好吃,真想要求添多一個呢.

龍蝦湯Lobster Bisque差不多一百塊錢,色水比較淺,質感還是稀了一點,龍蝦味濃但略為單調一點,欠了些充滿酒香層次感.可幸是龍蝦肉也不少,每一件也爽口鮮甜.

她的沙律是Wooloomooloo Salad,份量可不少,內容有免翁牛柳,沙律菜,磨菇,棕欖樹心,車厘茄,dresing是松露油.

沙律菜新鮮爽脆,每口也是水份,最愛吃Button Mushroom,菇味香濃又肥美,棕欖樹心早前在阿根廷扒房"Tango:吃過,入口帶爽脆,但友人不甚欣賞,最後差不多給我全部吃光.松露油的香氣在這個沙律上盡情發揮,免翁牛柳有很重的燒烤香味,肉味濃香,入口軟稔可口.我說胃口不大的女生,來到吃此道沙律,已經是一頓豐富晚餐了.

牛扒我選了最便宜的澳州安格斯肉眼扒,份量為十二安士,Wooloomooloo的澳州安格斯牛扒,是經過150天Grain Fed,2-3星期wet aged,當然濕熟成沒有乾熟般高級,單憑肉味已略遜一點,但是十二安士份量也是三百多,又不能要求多多了.

沒有幾種牛扒刀你選,吃牛扒不能沒有芥辣,此店的芥辣也有幾種選擇,法國英國蜜糖芥辣等等.我要了後兩者.牛扒方面要求五成熟.

牛扒表面的燒烤網紋清晰可見,鋒利的牛扒刀將其切開也沒有難度,看看橫切面,色水嫣紅,有血水流出.肉質也軟稔鬆化,說到肉味方面則不算太強.如果是Dry Aged的效果一定好得多,這個道理大家也明白,一分錢一分貨,以這個價錢來說,配合埋環境,也可叫物有所值了.我倆也懷念幾個月前,在LKF Tower內的Opus Grill,當然價錢不能夠同日而語.

甜品環節免卻,因大家也吃得很飽,如果時間尚早的話,可以上一層的露台喝杯酒,但這夜的時間,並不容許我倆摸著酒杯底吹吹風.

此一頓晚飯之價值,當然遠超一張戲票價錢,但不能以價值來衡量,最緊要大家吃得高興便是,如果令對方吃得不高興,反過來我會感到內疚呢.期間談及到君悅酒店將會有新扒房,大家的食指又再動起來了,不如在今年你生日?

He gave us menus, returned 30 seconds later and ushered us to a table next to the window. Australia is known for its grass-fed beef, so I was disappointed to find that only the filet mignon was grass-fed, everything else was grain fed. The medium-rare steak arrived barely warm and on the dry side, but tasted good and had great texture. I also ordered the wild mushrooms and the grilled asparagus, both of which were ok. Overall the selection of side dishes did not feature enough plain vegetables, like steamed broccoli for example, or even salad.

They offered a selection of mustards (twice, because the waiting staff did not coordinate) just after they served the steak, which might appeal to some. At least they refilled the water glass regularly.

Since I had complained about the steak (but decided not to order another one as it would have taken too long), they served us a ho-hum pavlova dessert (cream-filled meringue topped with strawberry, blueberry, kiwi and mango sauce).

On the way out we wandered around the roof terrace. Despite the view, the atmosphere was bleak.

唉,因爲無聽OpenRice衆食客的advice,中去灣仔呢間Wooloomooloo食飯,果然食到火都黎埋!之前看過所有食評,知道間野服務麻麻,但誓估唔到差到咁。首先,我地order完牛排之後,個waiter不斷繼續介紹更加貴的牛排,完全好似聽唔到我地想叫乜咁。有一個小朋友因爲食量不大,所以只叫了兩個starter,但waiter竟然自行幫我哋個order變double,即兩分三文魚當一碟上,我地食時候都無為意,但埋單後才知道哋竟然私自幫我由例牌變打孖,認真離譜。我們七點訂台並準時坐齊人,但waiter 好似仲嫌我哋張單銀碼細,但其實我們一行八人,有幾位都order紅白酒,每人除自己的頭盤及主菜外,亦order其他side dish 及salad 大家share,所以真不明白他們是否要跑數,所以用盡一切辦法令我們食快D,例如,我從來無試過食西餐時,喺大家都仲食緊salad同湯時候,已經急不及待上主菜,鑒硬放牛排猪排喺我地的碟旁,真真嘆爲觀止,哭笑不得。所以經此一役後,我一定會聽取Open Rice 食客的經驗, 黎選擇餐廳食飯!

We were in the neighbourhood & decided we wanted a steak so it seemed like the obvious choice. No problem to get a table. First they squashed us between two other tables by the window but we asked to move to some comfortable bigger tables in the middle of the room.We didn't order starters, just steaks and some sides with a bottle of red wine. Much to my surprise, the food arrived really quickly. Much to my disappointment my medium-rare fillet steak was fridge-cold in the middle. I pointed this o

We didn't order starters, just steaks and some sides with a bottle of red wine.

Much to my surprise, the food arrived really quickly. Much to my disappointment my medium-rare fillet steak was fridge-cold in the middle. I pointed this out and sent it back. I have always understood that steak should be cooked from room temperature, not from fridge temperature and I presume the chef did not take this into account in his timing. Also, one of the vegetable side dishes had to go back too as it was only barely warm.

That said, both our steaks were very nice meat - the fillet was tender and juicy and a good quantity; my friend's rare sirloin was exactly as it should be.

We ordered a dessert which the manageress gave to us for free as a gesture of goodwill but, quite honestly, for those prices it shouldn't be necessary.

There won't be a next time.

Service:
I would consider the staff undertrained, to put it mildly. It seemed like most of them avoided waiting tables like the plague. For a restaurant of this quality, I would expect very attentive staff, so much so that you wouldn't need to raise your hand to request something.

I would go again, but perhaps more for drinks than for dinner.

I took my friend to visit thier roof top bar after work.They first let us in and then one of the waiter on the roof blocks me from entering the main area on the roof top and said: "You can't go in". I asked him why and he said "You can't go in". There's no signage or anything showing a party is undergoing and people at the resturant should have told us. I took my friend to visit thier roof top bar after work.
They first let us in and then one of the waiter on the roof blocks me from entering the main area on the roof top and said: "You can't go in". I asked him why and he said "You can't go in". There's no signage or anything showing a party is undergoing and people at the resturant should have told us.
Then, the customer near by said that there's a party going on and that I should go down and buy drink and take it up. That's what they are told to do so.

I went down with my friend, at the reception, the waitress showed me the drink list and asked me what I want, I told her to give me a second, then she went off. When I am ready to order, I waved her back, but she just stared at me from inside the resturant and didn't come. I wondered what happened. Then there goes a manager and he comes and ask: what can I help you? I asked him what happened to the waitress staring and not coming for my order? He asked: What is that you are ordering?
I thought he's going to take my order but then he said: "No"
"No?" I asked
"There's a function at the roof top and I can't take your order" he said
"So why did she offered me at first and why did you ask me what to order at the reception knowing that I am obviously not a diner there?"
"No ordering" he said and he left!!!

I was so angry and so embrassed in front of my friend.

So, guys, if you want to enjoy your evening, do NOT go to this place.

They could have won the WORST SERVICE AWARD in Hong Kong!!

It's a shame to have such a good view and location but worst people to kick out the customers.

我們因不想在糾纏叫他攞張單埋嚟[用英文說],侍應回答:[咩話?] 我們:[麻煩你叫一個識英文嘅經理埋嚟........

We booked the rooftop section and invited friends for our wedding registration ceremony for the evening. They provided nice canapes & drinks. Most staffs are very nice & friendly. There are the below that made us angry, especially the manager:- there were 3-5 older people who can't have cold drinks, so we asked whether we could order hot tea/ coffee from down of their restaurant. There are the below that made us angry, especially the manager:
- there were 3-5 older people who can't have cold drinks, so we asked whether we could order hot tea/ coffee from down of their restaurant. They said "No". So they don't have drinks the whole night.
- we have exclusive use of the rooftop, they didn't put any sign saying "Private Party" to stop people coming up. They even let a few people sitting on a table and served them drinks!!!
- when we paid the bill, we need to spend another $2000 to meet the deal. So we bought 2 more bottles of red wine each worth over $1000. As most of us are pretty full, so we asked whether we could bring them home. The manager said "NO"!!! so we said what about they opened it and put the cork back in case they think we are reselling their wine or again any regulation etc etc... . . The manager said "NO" again without giving us any explanation !!!!! my husband got angry and said if he dropped those 2 bottles on the floor, will that made her happy, the manager said "Yes"!!! I totally cannot believe this is the response, attitude & services of the Manager of this bar & restaurant !!!
So all of our friends & guest watched the whole scenarios and all of them said they will never come back !!

九月上旬‧晴 這裡位於32樓,是頂樓全露天的地方,熱天又或是下雨天也不適宜,卻適逢是日金風送爽,涼快非常。是晚是夜賽日,也適逢是港隊大戰科威特的日子,但這裡客人一樣的多,是所有位置也全滿了。大家站起來,就好像在雲端喝酒一般,是美妙的一個地方。 生啤是冰涼夠凍,喝起來暢快順喉。可惜的是只是用膠杯盛著,有點馬夫,可能是怕醉酒客將杯子擲下街吧。kkk兄要的是樽啤,而Ming及Victor就是紅酒,專兄就要了男士之選的健力士。幾位食友,拿著酒,天南地北的談了個來鐘,輕鬆舒暢,賞心樂事。 kkk兄請飲酒,在此說聲謝謝,而這裡也絕對值得一來的歡樂時光好地方。 相關網誌文章: http://gourmetkc.blogspot.com/2009/08/wooloomooloo.html

難得重回灣仔辦公事,馬上相約朋友前去品嚐。餐廳位於灣仔新商廈的最頂兩層,樓下是用餐地方,天台則是露天飲酒勝地。餐廳靠窗的地方,一邊是望馬場,另一面就是維港海景,在這美妙的地方欣賞周圍的景觀,身心也特別舒暢。甫坐底,服務員便立即奉上餐牌,並問及要Still Water還是Sparkling Water,我則說要水喉水。真的不懂欣賞礦泉水,有氣或冇氣皆是。因為大家都好想吃甜品,跟朋友商量一陣,就只要一客Set Lunch,吃三客甜品。點菜後,先吃餐包,是很大的香草麵包。熱呼呼的,外皮焗至香脆,裡頭鬆軟,塗上牛油,十分好吃,但要留肚吃其他東西,也只吃了四分之一。不喜歡喝湯,頭盤就選了沙律。材料有柚子、蘿蔔絲和青瓜絲,還有蝦仁,賣相有點像泰式的沙律。味道是酸酸辣辣的,柚子清甜,是尚佳的餐前小吃。主菜是澳洲肉眼扒,要Medium。咬落是有點韌,也沒有粉紅色的夾心,幸好是肉味尚算濃郁,又香口,醮上英式芥末還不太差。伴碟的茄子和燈籠椒,好稔身,亦並不甜美,一般而已。三款甜品,先來相對淡味的檸檬撻,賣相很吸引,對方說很好吃,不過我就覺得好酸,沒吃了幾口;拿破崙酥皮幾脆口,但中間並沒有吉士,換上是很大片

最後一款是心太軟,偏偏的一件,雪糕球又細,沒什麼吸引。切開,是流心,也有熱暖的朱古力漿,吃起來不太差,但可能外表太唔掂,食慾也大減,好勉強才能完成。

結尾的熱檸茶,一壺上,最適合用來消滯,也分了一點給朋友飲。

吃罷,大家又各有各忙,期望在不久將來再一齊吃午餐。也正如KC所講,要找個日子,到天台Happy Hour!

與老公去了, 很滿意地方環境, FULL SEAVIEW, 座位舒適, 我點了生蠔及salad. 生蠔肥美又夠鮮, 不錯, 老公點了貴價牛, 不過沒有驚喜.食到好有mood, 把兩杯wine帶埋上去ROOF TOP, 好舒服的OUTDOOR BAR AREA.渡過了美麗的夜晚.
