I've always been a big fan of Wooloomooloo at Central for their food and decor, so I didn't hesitate to check out their new place at Wanchai because it was located in the "penthouse" with roof. No doubt, the moment you step inside, you know you're at Wooloomooloo because they've kept to the same decor as their other restaurants, but with a STUNNING view! What a beautiful restaurant, overlooking Hong Kong island / Kowloon side depending where you're sitting, it is an absolutely nice place to chill out.
Their lighting were also done very well, not too dark so you can't see your food, and not to bright - keeping it to a more cosy/romantic ambience.
In terms of the food though, it didn't quite match up to their other restaurants as a matter of fact. We had fresh oysters for starters (Irish rock) which were very fresh, but for the mains, the prime rib (recommended by our waitress) weren't as up to scratch. It was close to being tasteless either due to the poor quality of the meat or poor cooking technique (or both!). A shame really.
In terms of their services, as expected with most new restaurants, there are always some new recruits which don't know their way around. As they weren't terrifically bad or anything, I'm not going to comment any further as I'm sure they would improve anyway.
Anyhow, after our meal, we went up to the rooftop to check out their outdoor bar, again, absolutely wonderful. According to their manager, it can fit up to 60+ people comfortably (mostly standing) and smokers can always have a space to have a queit moment.
All in all, I enjoyed the night. Great atmosphere and great view. With a better kitchen and better staffing/service, this place will be another great chill out place for the young and old.
