We had a lunch for 2 people on last Sunday.To be fair, food was decent. However, price was totally unacceptable. HK$ 98 for a small portion of baba ghanoush (without pita!!!), HK$ 88 for 6 quarters of pita!!! HK$ 188 for 5 tiny pieces of fatayer (full of oil by the way) What?!?!?!? We did feel it was a rip-off!!! And definitely we won’t come back!!!

Modern dining with cozy vibes. Terrace sitting adds to the wonderful vibrant atmosphere. Food is ok at the restaurant. Overall, it was a great experience, but still on the pricy side. Trying a few things I’ve never tried before they change their menu.

Takliya Grilled Prawns $188


Takliya is a region in Lebanon and this dish highlights that region. Even though no unusual or extra spice or herb is used. I had high expectations for this but sadly, they were not fulfilled.


I used to see six pieces but now there is only five
Some are big and plump whilst others were not. The taste though is spot on, love the flavor you get from grilling them. They were easy to remove from shell and the shell also has a lot of flavor for you to suck on.


The shatta sauce is delicious as always but honestly given very tentatively. The sauce and prawn ate well with pita but I wished there were more sauce so each bite has a generous dollop.


After finishing this dish, there is a very strong metallic taste that lingers in my mouth. Perhaps because some prawns were not cleaned properly and still had their intestines intact….

Hearth-baked Pita Bread $68


Smaller portion than before 🥲 Used to be two pieces cut into eight quarters, now there are only six quarters which means only one and a half whole pieces of pita. The taste also changed and became more yeasty.


Unlike before, the dough doesn’t harden after being cool. It is still fluffy and easy to tear after cooling down.

Hummus Awarma $118


I love their hummus so had to try this version with minced beef.


First of all, the hummus to beef ratio is 1:2 with a mountain of beef and only a small dollop of hummus 😕


The beef is good (if not better) by itself, not greasy but with a generous pour of brown butter. Very savory and meaty with a great texture against the smooth hummus. Beef also goes really well with the pita as it is juicy and pita is absorbent.


The hummus is very velvety and creamy. I do miss the crunch from the chickpeas but the pine nuts tastes really good too.


Not a bad dish if you always get their hummus but I wish there would be more.

💬 Overall, the portions of everything seems to be shrinking which makes me sad as their price is already on the high end. The flavor is still amazing though.


I cant wait to try their new menu. I just hope they don’t increase the prices 😬

Tried this before and it was amazing. I love how it’s served as a big platter and you get to taste every by itself and together.


The bewaz salad was smaller this time. The carrots and potatoes were a bit undercooked but very well seasoned. Eggplant and zucchini still top notch. The dollop of hummus also got smaller 🫤


Big fan of their pita bread but be aware that it does get stale and hardens over time. Best enjoyed fresh and hot!

Salatat Shamander $148


Tried this beetroot and lentils salad today and was super glad I did!


Five big chunky pieces of sweet beetroot on a generous bed of lentils. First time trying lentils and I love it!!! So crunchy and creamy in your mouth. The vinaigrette is light and acidic with herbaceous garnishes of mint and parsley.


The additional pine nuts add a great mild buttery-ness and texture. Whilst the pomegranates contrasts with its fruity sweetness and burst of juice.


The excess dressing got mopped up by some pita. A bit with pita with some hummus and lentils drenched in liquid is perfect. 💯💯

Hummus bil tahini $88


So velvety and nutty. Literally coats your whole mouth and makes everything smooth. Lovely with warm pita. The additional olive oil moistens everything and makes it less thick. Extra chickpeas on top for garnish and more creaminess.

Muhammara $98


Has a spice to it from the red peppers. Also has more body from the breadcrumbs. Additional pomegranate molasses is sweet and tangy, pomegranates juicy and fresh, walnuts crunchy and nutty. They truly know how to balance flavors and textures.


Both dips are very generous in portion and I was beyond full and satisfied after eating these with their pita bread $68

💬 Overall, amazing food. Amazing service. What more do you want? Perhaps more items on the menu but quality > quantity!!


I went again after my first visit for the hummus and muhammara and decided to merge both visits into one for a more comprehensive review.

Back at ML for the third time! This place is becoming my second home 😆 the staff even saved me the save table.


Im slowly but surely trying all of their vegetarian dishes and only have the salads and some dips left.


I always have to applaud their service which is top notch and very attentive. The only improvement they can strive for is for the servers to know more about the dishes instead of repeating the menu and be able to recommend more easily (I overheard a waitress struggling to recommend dishes to the tablet next to me).

Roasted cauliflower $188


This is the biggest thing on their PLATED menu that I wanted to try and I’m so glad it’s on their regular menu.


The presentation is on point ⭐️ with a whole cauliflower drizzled with sauces and garnishes with almonds. The server also cuts it into quarters for easier access.


First off. The florets. Perfectly tender and crisp, with a mild smokiness to it. With the tahini it’s very nutty and creamy 👍👍


The green shatta is traditionally supposed to be spicy but this wasn’t at all. It reminded me of a Middle Eastern pesto with coriander instead of basil and more garlic. It’s also creamy and kinda cheesy (?) although I don’t know if they added cheese or not.


The velvety tahini and luscious shatta paired so well with the Heart Baked Pita Bread $68 and I highly recommend eating it when it’s still warm as it’s easier to tear apart and tastes yeastier. And it does get harder as it cools and becomes less pliable for dipping.


The stalk of the cauliflower is perfectly crunchy and firm. A great contact against the tender florets. The stray strands of leaves are also very crisp due to it being deep fried which made it charred and slight burnt (perfect)


In addition, even though it looks like there is a pool of oil on the bottom and being soaked into the cauliflower. The oil doesn’t feel greasy at all and tastes amazing with pita alone. Much like how Italians eat bread with olive oil. The oil moisturizes the pita and gives it a mild taste.


The sliced roasted almonds give a nice texture but would be crunchier and nuttier if it was thicker as it becomes overpowered and soaked either by the oil, tahini or shatta.


The portion of one cauliflower is enough to feed me (a hungry girl) along with two pieces of pita. Didn’t need any dips since I used the leftover oil and sauces from the cauliflower for my bread.

星期五晚間沒得book位,6:15分到,walk in入場,唔洗排隊,限時一個半鐘,食得好急。一黎到叫左支白酒,不過系唔夠凍的(想像下可樂放左雪櫃5分鐘,有客到,半暖的情況下,拿俾你飲🤦‍♀️)已經發覺好唔掂。叫左3個招牌菜,得烤雞味道還可以,算嫩口,其他兩道菜味道都系好一般,真系唔太試值得試,性價比可謂極低。服務態度算幾好既,但真系沒下次了,同等價錢的應該有大把選擇。仲要食到限時限刻,又唔系快餐店!

Back at ML for the second time in exactly a week! They’re currently celebrating their 10th anniversary so one guest each week for 10 weeks gets to dine in one of their restaurants with 10 guests.


This time I came back alone as there is something romantic and therapeutic about dining alone, only sad note is that you have to order less. But this also allows me to try different dishes each time.


At first I wanted to try their PLATED menu, but unfortunately it requires a minimum of 2 people due to the portions. Nonetheless I ordered 3 dishes from their a la carte: a dip, pita and a plate.

Baba Ghanoush $88


Tried this last time and I fell in love with this smooth, oily and sharp dip. The extra olive oil is not necessary but does give another texture and can be eaten alone with pita for moisture.


This simple dip is light but it does get heavy after a while so the small bowl is definitely enough.

Hearth baked pita bread $68


Fresh and warm from the pan. Slightly crispy as well. Not gonna lie, I ate one whole piece by itself when it was hot just cause that’s how amazing it was. Slight crisp, chewy and yeasty.


$68 gets you 2 pieces which is a lot but if you’re like me and ate one whole piece raw. You definitely have extra dip. The waitress was kind enough to give me an extra piece of pita when she saw how sad I was with my leftover dip.

Makali mshakal $188


Trying something new! Saw this came with hummus, more pita and grilled vegetables which is basically all of my favorite things.


Vegetables includes potatoes, carrots, eggplant and zucchini. Absolutely loved the potatoes: perfectly seasoned and grilled. Carrots were crunchy and sweet with slight hot char (only flaw is that the pieces are quite small (or it’s only me being a carrot fanatic)).


On the other hand, the watery eggplant and zucchini tasted even better with pita and hummus. I highly recommend making an open faced toast with pita, a thin or thick layer of hummus and a piece of eggplant. It’s absolutely delicious with the refreshing eggplant, velvety hummus and soft, chewy pita.


The small dollop of hummus is definitely not enough for the 4 pieces of pita (one regular sized one) but that’s fine because eating pita with the bewaz salad provided a zesty, sharp palate cleanser.


The bewaz salad was definitely a first for me. It’s a Lebanese parsley and onion salad with sumac. This for sure is not something people who hate raw herbs or cilantro to be a fan of. Sumac might also be a first for a lot of Hong Kongers and the best I can describe it is as fruity lemon tartness with a minuscule hint of peppercorns. This was refreshing and simple but definitely not for the weak-hearted as it is very strong and intense.


The dressing is some sort of molasses based dressing which is very tart with a mild sweetness.

💬 Overall, loved my time here. Was a bit awkward dining alone but I am my own best company. Enjoyed my book and the amazing food. I also found observing other people talk about the food and their lives to be very humbling.


Also I ate 4 pieces of pita myself and it was so filling but so worth it.

First time trying Lebanese food, something I’ve always wanted to try and decided to start at this famous Black Sheep Restaurant. I wanted to come here for their special PLATED menu but it’s only for people who pre-booked and they were full when I tried to ☹️. Anyways we walked in around 6:30 and it was empty which was perfect as the already small restaurant started filling up right after.


We ordered their Maison’s Feast which included 7 dishes chosen by the staff. This was $408 +10% per person. And we asked if we could order 1 of that with other a la carte and they said no. So this option is great for first visitors to get a taste of Lebanon and order their favorites next time (like I will).


The 7 dishes were:
Cold - Hummus bil tahini, Muhammara, Baba Ghanoush, Taboule Janoubia

Les plats - Shish taouk

Hot - Fatteh kafta, Hearth baked pita bread


One word to describe this life changing experience is ‘mouthfeel’. Each dish made my mouth incredibly ecstatic and excited.

Hummus bil tahini


Classic hummus. Oh so creamy and thick and I mean really thick, almost like a paste. It was very mild, nutty and velvety (the kind that coats your whole tongue and mouth, like peanut butter haha) and I especially like it with the chicken that is filled with spices and super flaky (never described chicken like this, only fish but this chicken FLAKED with ease) and the garlicky, tangy toum.


The portion was enough for 2 people and 3 pitas with big dollops on each bite.


Nonetheless, it did get heavy and too thick after too much of it so it’s good to have other dips and spices to move to.



Muhammara


By far my favorite dip tonight. I absolutely loved the vibrancy of the red bell pepper and the presentation made it so much more enjoyable. It also has a pleasant kick of heat to it, very mild but becomes strong after two or more bites. I also enjoyed the contrast of smooth, creaminess with the crunchy walnuts and pomegranates that bursts with fruitiness. Another great moment that made focus on the mouthfeel of food.


Somehow, this delicious dip is only made better with the pita bread. Perhaps it’s because the chewiness of the pita allows the flavors of the Muhammara to be in your mouth for longer.



Baba Ghanoush


Very close second with the Muhammara. Was actually first but then after eating it for a while it became a bit boring whereas the spice from the Muhammara still surprises me.


By charting the eggplant, it allowed it to become super creamy (not the thick kind) and adds another layer of flavor. Eating it with the pomegranates and olive oil made it 3-dimensional in terms of texture with the smooth eggplant, silky olive oil and pomegranates that act as bursts of happiness and cuts through the oil like a hot knife through butter.



Taboule Janoubia


Not a dip! But a delicious cold dish of bulgur wheat cooked in a tomato sauce and your supposed to wrap it in cabbage.


This dish is definitely interesting and worth trying but most definitely is not the best nor most memorable. The bulgur itself is delicious with rich tomato sauce and a small punch of heat. However, the portion is quite large and it does get boring after a while, the cabbage is sweet and crunchy but pairs better with the hot tender meats than with the bulgur.



Overall, I honestly didn’t think cold food would taste so good. And don’t let the small plates fool you, you can easily eat 3-4 pita on that. On a side note, a very kind waitress actually saw we finished our pita but still had over half of the dips and offered us some more, I was scared they were gonna charge us extra but she said it was complimentary so that definitely improved my experience.


I don’t know if the plates are bigger if you order a la carte and not this pre planned menu but still highly recommend all three if you want a taste of Lebanon.

Shish taouk


My favorite dish of the night! Absolutely loved the tender, smoky, flaky cubes of chicken breast that was already flavorful enough on its own but it’s flavors are accentuated ten times by the toum. A delicious emulsion sauce with garlic and lemon notes. This tangy, garlicky sauce paired so well with the chicken that I ate the 2 skewers myself (my sister found out she does not like Lebanese food like I do).


Moreover, eating the chicken and sauce with warm and fluffy pita bread was another level. The pita soaks up the chicken’s spices and becomes the perfect host for all that flavor.


The mouthfeel each bite of this brings us insane and I’m salivating just thinking about this now.


The size of this is quite satiable with 5 pieces on each skewer. It was easy to slide off too fyi. This came with a tomato that cooked with the chicken and had all that flavor absorbed into a juicy, plump package.




Fatteh kafta


Fatteh Kafta is a traditional minced meat dish made with beef or lamb and a heavy load of seasonings that’s swimming in a pool of yogurt, toasted pita and various nuts.


I’ve never had hot yogurt before so this was mind-blowing. I also absolutely loved the toasted peanuts with the tangy yogurt. The pita was too soaked for me, thus becoming soggy. I think it either wasn’t toasted or toasted enough as it should still be crisp after being soaked. Nonetheless it was great as a dip for pita as well.


This kafta (the meatball) is charred to perfection with a crispy crust and an extremely juicy interior as it bursts open. There is a variety of herbs and spices in the meatball that made it different than every single meatball I’ve ever eaten. Because it was so juicy, it became another source of flavor for the pita to soak up and embody.


The portion was again satiable with four pieces, two for each of us.

Hearth baked pita bread


This truly is one of the best vessel for all the flavor I got to experience tonight. It was light and fluffy. Although, the air conditioning was quite strong where we were sitting so the pita did go cold and semi-hard after a short while. However, it didn’t change the yumminess.


Like I mentioned before, the waitress kindly offered us more pita and this time it was very warm when arrived so I took that to advantage and ate it with everything before it had the chance to get cold 😼


Warm bread made everything better as it is softer and had stronger ‘bread’ taste (you know?) and I love how I can eat the pita with anything and it just gives me another texture and mouthfeel to enjoy.


I wish that the a la carte would also allow refills if not enough but I guess I’ll find out next time.

💬 Overall, absolutely loved my experience here tonight. The service was also impeccable as my glass of water was never empty 😂


One thing that did surprise me is the size of the restaurant which is very small and maybe limits to 20-30 people upstairs. So I do recommend booking beforehand.


On another hand, I do wish they had a selection of cocktails or more drink choices as it’s all wine.

Hands down,呢個係我食過最好食嘅falafel,怪唔得知佢哋特別稱呼佢做Maison’s falafel🙌平時食falafel都會有浸草青味或者好強烈嘅香草味,要食多幾次先會慣👌但佢用嘅香料有特色得來又相對比較溫和,係比較大眾化啲嘅falafel! 我會推薦埋俾啲第一次食炸鷹嘴豆餅嘅人😽
而且佢炸到外層好鬆脆,有少少外脆內院嘅感覺,勁impressive😍不過就有少少少少乾😗而且佢嘅份量好大,三個球一定夠哂飽!

食得中東菜,一定係最想食佢嘅惹味😆而呢個沙律又有洋蔥又有佢哋中東嘅香料,所以係個好刺激到味蕾嘅沙律,但因為整體來講佢偏濕,應該落咗啲檸檬汁或者其他醬汁🍋所以唔會太辣或者好嗆,但份量就真係有啲少啦🙈

2️⃣CP值普通,我覺得如果唔係特別想試中東菜式,就冇乜必要嚟,整體來講唔算係超級好食嘅嘢🥱
3️⃣環境十分寬敞,星期六lunch去食,但都唔full,而且枱與枱之間都有一定嘅距離,相對上比較啱dating或者兩至四個人小聚👯‍♀️
4️⃣ 都係講英文嘅侍應,service好好👍會介紹菜式同埋問你拎feedback(唔夠膽同佢哋講個雞唔好食🥲)
5️⃣又中伏… 佢問我哋要唔要水,要有氣定無氣,我話要,結果買咗三支,最後每支好似都$50…
6️⃣堂食喺上層,地面嗰層佢係做外賣嘅沙律、wrap同rice bowl等等,但煎肉嘅味超級香,經過嘅都會忍唔住望一望👃有機會去到會再戰佢嘅外賣🥡

OVERALL:
Good middle eastern food isn’t always easy to find in HK but Maison Libanaise is a good option. The food is also mainly grilled which feels fairly healthy. Everything is seasoned and cooked well. The decor is supposed to resemble Beirut in the 60s. There is also a rooftop area which would be perfect to dine on during summer nights.

DISHES:
🧆Hummus Shawarma: This dish elevates a regular hummus dip with some ground beef (which also tastes like a bolognese). Would really recommend opting for this instead of a regular hummus for something special.

🍢Shish Taouk: This is a pretty staple dish. The portions are generous and the chicken is cooked juicy and tender.

Grilled cauliflower: Literally an entire head of cauliflower was served on a plate. It tasted fresh and light. Perfect way to incorporate some veg into one’s diet!

我倆一致認同布丁不太合口味😛口感細緻嫩滑,但奶味不突出…反而吃到很濃的肉桂、玫瑰和蜜糖味,味道很複雜😂而且布丁裏面有我最討厭的提子乾🥲
