No "WOW" factor here at La Maison and it was "just another lunch" for me! Given that the price is fairly reasonable and I did not expect much so an “OK” is graded. The food was just an ok here. Given that the price is fairly reasonable and I did not expect much so an “OK” is graded. The food was just an ok here.

Starter

Refreshing! Better types of canned pineapples with fairly fresh vegetables. A pass!

Bread

Yes, it was hot!. Again, not homemade ones and nothing I would link it up with the passion for making it as so called a fine dining French restaurant.

Main

Sauce was an "OK". The taste and texture of the pork chops were decently done.

Coffee

Again and again, it was nothing special but just an "OK".

Nothing close to a dislike but nothing can be linked up with the claimed “fine dining” at La Maison. Overall, an enjoyable lunch and price is reasonable. What an "OK" lunch which I would consider to come back again for lunch ONLY!

女友想食法國餐,偶然於灣仔找找,行經横街望見餐牌,因而打電話留坐一試,果然有點驚喜,回味無窮。環境有一種温暖的西方味道。坐低先上招牌熱麵包,附三種醬如鵝肝、牛油,超美味。頭盤我們也叫鵝肝,加海鹽而外面少少煎脆,很cool。之後龍蝦湯味道也很好。主菜之前有雪芭清口腔夠細心。到主菜五成熟Augus肥牛,火候剛好,且份量適中,讚!最後甜品也不錯,值得一試。

I ordered a medium Lamp Rack, I'm not a big fan of lamp. But this one is pretty good.

Overall, this bistro is pretty nice especially the seafood. By the way, we are allowed to bring our own fine without paying any extra charge.

I took my girlfriend here for birthday dinner.Initially the reservation had been lost once over the phone, but staff were very attentive and helpful thereafter. I took my girlfriend here for birthday dinner.

Initially the reservation had been lost once over the phone, but staff were very attentive and helpful thereafter. The free corkage policy allowed me to take some decent wine and the restaurant accommodated me in letting me bring a Pomerol in for decanting several hours ahead of time.

The food was of a very good standard and excellent for the price. My girlfriend and I both had foie gras to start, and this was done to a consistency I appreciated (personally not over-keen on undercooked liver).

My girlfriend then had a mushroom soup which was good in texture and taste. The amuse-bouche had been a vodka and herb shooter which was interesting if not special. Palette cleanser of lychee sorbet was good and not too sweet, very refreshing.

For main courses I had the duck which was very decent, though not sure about the sauerkraut base as an accompaniment. My girlfriend had the Kobe beef which was outstanding, a medium-rare done to perfection, great texture and tasted fantastic, just what we had wished for.

After this we shared a dessert and cheeseboard. The cheeseboard was perhaps too unrelentingly strong - all four, even the Emmenthaler, took quite some nose (this suited my taste but not my girlfriend). The apple crumble was very good however, served at a nice temperature and very warming.

Total bill very reasonable for the level of food I throught. Staff were attentive with the pouring the wine. The ambience is curious since it looked a bit plastic when we walked in but it grows on you. There was a live band the night we went, which I had not expected, and made things a little loud at times. Also take some extra clothing since the small space is susceptible to the air con!

We went to La Maison with another couple to celebrate our anniversary, and while our visit was not overall negative, we found the place highly overrated and not very special.
First of all, the reservation: I made a reservation with TableMap (which in itself is very convenient) and received a confirmation code, but when we arrived at La Maison, they could not find our reservation. They luckily had a table for us, and so I didn't think about the issue anymore, until I got an e-mail (which I only saw the next day at home) from TableMap, thanking me for honoring the reservation. Which means that the restaurant must have communicated TableMap that we showed up. I find this very unprofessional.
So we sat down, got menus, and unpacked our wine bottles (they don't charge corkage fee. At all. Awesome). Their menu is quite large for a private kitchen, so it took us a while to figure out what we wanted to eat. For appetizers, we had the mushroom duo (with cream sauce, parma ham, and caviar), the tomato bavarois (tomato mousse), and two orders of the tuna tartar. Before the appetizers arrived (and it took a while, although there were not that many people at the place), we got the bread basket, which was nice but not very special; and a tiny serving of orange mousse with two cubes of yellow jelly and some pieces of strawberry - it was odd that such an amuse bouche would be sweet, and sweet it was very much. The strawberries were tasty, though.
The appetizers arrived, and the tuna turned out to be extremely fishy; it did not taste good or fresh at all. The server took it back without much comment, and we ordered the beef carpaccio instead. It took quite long until it arrived, but it was very nice; it was served with some capers and plenty of onions (which would have completely overpowered the taste of the meat had we eaten them) but without olive oil. The mushrooms were very disappointing: bland, and the filling nothing special at all; the caviar was actually lumpfish roe. Not even the presentation of this dish was nice. The tomato mousse was the best of all appetizers; nicely arranged and extremely aromatic.
While waiting for the carpaccio, we had ordered a second bread basket, but this, too, took a long time to arrive. The accompanying butter, goose liver pate, and smoked salmon pate took even longer. In between the appetizers and the main course, we were served a very nice lychee sorbet; a bit sweet but nicely refreshing.
We had better luck with the main courses, which were all very nice. Both the lamb loin and the rack of lamb were very tasty and tender. My husband and I shared the beef cheek and the confit de canard. The beef cheek was a classic French stew, with a very flavorful dark sauce and plenty of vegetables inside; the meat was extremely soft. The duck was quite salty, but so soft that it virtually fell off the bone when I touched it with my fork; the skin was crisp, and the whole leg incredibly tasty. The accompanying red cabbage salad was very nice, too.
For dessert we had the Champagne berry terrine, which was quite nice but did not taste very much like champagne, nor were the berries very flavorful. The "French fudge chocolate cake" reminded more of an American chocolate indulgence than of a French dessert - since when is fudge French?? It was yummy and chocolat-y, though. The Clafoutis was more of a souffle (and lacking cherries), but the apple pie was more like a Clafoutis with apples; maybe it was intended to make up for it. None of the desserts were convincing. Actually, I make better Clafoutis at home (maybe I should open a private kitchen?...). I should add that we received the desserts for free; I assume because the owner had met our friends before and was happy to see them at La Maison.

The atmosphere at La Maison was much more like that of a restaurant than a private kitchen; plenty of staff running around, and while we did meet the owner (who I believe is not the chef), it was not a very personal or intimate experience at all.
With the food being so-so - very nice main dishes, but unconvincing appetizers and desserts - and the service alright, the place has not very many things to offer that could entice us to go back. Free corkage is a plus, but doesn't make up for the food.
Tuna tartar. Not recommended.

之後便輪到幾款主菜,我柯打的是燒鴨胸配石榴汁,燒鴨胸共有兩大片,色澤粉紅鮮嫰,加上深紫色的甜薯和其他配菜,賣相一流。鴨胸很厚肉,切開時還覺很不俗,一試才發覺過乾。它沒有想像中的燒香味道,反而拌著甜甜的石榴汁,又是另一種口味,感覺尚算清新。那個甜薯的確Sweet Sweet,與這個醬汁很配合。

另外的主菜分別是欖油香草鮮蝦炒扁意粉、燒焗香辣豬肶骨糙米飯、燒春雞配蜜糖燒汁意粉,我每樣分別試了一點。那碟扁意粉很彈牙,亦有強烈的欖油味,個人認為重手了一點。至於其他兩款肉類,均覺得燒得過乾,欠缺應有的肉汁。若店子能好好掌握火喉,深信理應有更好的效果。

吃到這裏已再沒餘位再嚐甜品,惟有再看有否機會再來吧!

La Maison is a cozy, exceptional private kitchen providing an esquisite fine dining experience at very reasonable prices. The extensive menu is predominantly freshly cooked French cuisine starting with delicious appetizers (my favourite is the whole camembert cheese fondue), then you must not miss the fresh seafood platter (a visible masterpeice of fresh prawns, crab , mussels etc). A soothing lychee sorbet is served between the appetizer and main course which is a nice touch and refreshed my mouth before the main course. The main dishes are cooked to order and are an example of the chef's cooking diversity (my favourite is the whole baramundi fish cooked in herbs and butter). If you still have room for a dessert then there is a large mouth watering choice (the brioche is my favourite). The restaurant allows you to bring your own wine and does not charge any corkage.....what a bonus! The staff are very attentive and friendly and the owner (Joe) is available to answer any questions you may have about the menu. In summary, this restaurant has surpassed mine and many of my friends expectations. The menu is changed regularly and on a Tuesday there is a jazz band to listen to. Be sure to make a reservation!

Back home at 10;00 p.m

雖於到達前五分鐘訂枱,仍能預留最後一餐桌。 午市有八九款午餐供選擇,頭盤有小巧雜菜沙律,每款菜蔬廖廖一兩片,點到即止。餐湯選了蘑菇蜆肉忌廉湯,忌廉湯味道質感普通,反而蜆肉幾鮮甜。主菜肉眼扒肉質不算十分鬆軟,邊為有少許根,肉香不夠自然,吃得出調味略重。加$15有一件黑朱古力蛋糕,味道濃郁,頗甜,少吃滋味。

We have purchased a group buy coupon for a dinner for 2 in this restaurant. The restaurant has 2 rounds 6-8pm and 8-10:30pm. we came for the second round. Once we sat down and reached ordering the mains of linguine, beef or lamb rack, the waiter told us there were no more lamb rack. We wanted to order the lamb rack but have no choice but to order beef and linguine. However when we were nearly finished, we found a table which came in later than us were served with 2 lamb rack dishes. We asked

Once we sat down and reached ordering the mains of linguine, beef or lamb rack, the waiter told us there were no more lamb rack. We wanted to order the lamb rack but have no choice but to order beef and linguine.

However when we were nearly finished, we found a table which came in later than us were served with 2 lamb rack dishes. We asked the waiter why this is so, his explanation was that they were not on coupons and came in at 6pm but ate very slowly so their lamb came late.

We were quite sure they came later than us and that it would not make sense at all if they came in at the 6pm rounds that their mains only arrived after 3 hours. The only reason we could think of is lamb rack is expensive and because we are on coupons if they say they dont have the lamb we have to order the cheaper dishes so they can earn more. And since the other couple is paying normal price they can order the lamb rack. but not us.

The waiter seems to think that telling us they dont have the lamb rack before we order makes everything ok.
(when our coupon said we have a choice out of 3 mains)

The food was only acceptable and we will never try this restaurant if it was not for the coupon.

i really wonder if what is offered is not exactly what the coupon said then can u ask for a refund..

My wife and I went to this small French restaurant for dinner after hearing some very good comments about it. When I reserved I asked for a quiet corner table. When we arrived, we were seated at a corner table just as we requested, which was nice.We ordered a la carte as we find the choices of the set menu too restrictive. We ordered a la carte as we find the choices of the set menu too restrictive. Almost everything exceeded our expectations. We ordered:
1. frog leg/avacado with crabmeat for appertiser
2 both ordered mushroom soup
3. duck confit/ pork chop
4. apple pie
Between the soup and main a lychee serbert was served. This was really good.
Minor issues: 1. mushroom soup too creamy (some guests may prefer it that way)
2. we tried to order soufle, but were told the only flavour available was dark chocolate, which was supposed to be the house specialty, but had to wait for 25 minutes, and were eventyually told that it was not available.
The spending was slightly less than $500 per head ( we did not consume any beverage) which was in my view quite reasonable for the quality of the food and the attention to detail in their preparation.
Also, the milk tea which my wife ordered was Hong Kong style milk tea, which was kind of unusual for western restaurants, but quite thoughtful as many local people prefer this to the lighter tea bag tea. This is another example of attention to detail.
Overall, we are very satisfied with the quality of food and service, and look forward to return soon.

因爲有團購優惠,$398二人晚餐,所以來試試。團購只可星期日至四用。星期日晚上我們倆六點多到餐廳,很靜。服務員主動介紹說這兒免開瓶費,給人態度慇勤。餐前麵包夠熱,塗麵包有三种:Pate, Cream cheese and smoked salmon, French butter salted. 麵包鬆軟,個人較常吃高密度的麵包,但塗麵包的醬太好味了,很忍手地refill了麵包一次。頭盆我選蘑菇湯(Mushroom soup),料很多,很香,滿意! 老公選洋蔥湯,他說是其中一次最好的,可跟星級酒店餐廳相比。主菜選羊架和煎盲曹。羊架做到肉嫩的Medium, 不太咸,點不點Mint Jelly 或Mustard 已經很好吃!煎盲曹也火候剛好,皮香脆,肉不老,調味适中,魚身内stuffed 了thyme sprigs,色香味俱全! 身為師奶的我深知煎魚如此火候而魚皮要完整(不甩皮)是多困難。當我羊架吃到一半,低頭找東西的時候,遠處的服務員可能以爲我找餐紙,很快的過來送上濕紙巾並替我打開,覺得他服務很好,很細心和主動啊!可惜是夜餐牌上可選甜品的萍果撻售罄,餘下只有Poached pear 和ch
