First time using the Online Reservation service. I booked the restaurant for a semi buffet lunch to celebrate our anniversary. I mentioned that we'd like to have window seat so that we can enjoy the sea view. And it's nicely prepared. The salad was so fresh! There were about 4 different salad dressing to choose from. And I find it very tasty when eating together with parmesan cheese and the Parma ham
But the bread was just average.

The soup of day was the Chicken Bean Soup. Although it's not my favorite, I find it satisfactory because It's creamy and not too strong in the bean favor.

There was quite a lot of appetizer to choose from. So we grabbed a little bit of each to try. My favorite was the grilled vegetable (asparagus, zucchini & egg plant) and the mini cabbage. But they all tasted good overall


After a couple of rounds, we were kinda slow down a bit. The server came to us and asked if we'd like to have the main course to be served. We were surprised! The food was really made to order! That's great!

I ordered the rigatoni with sausage in creamy tomato sauce. It's very el dente. Actually, we find it a bit under cooked. But that's ok. The creamy sauce tasted great! Another thing is, it's served hot. I meant hot hot! I like this food temperature.

They offer a few cakes and fruit for dessert. Cakes were just ok. The best one is the cheese cake. I like the fruit better, like pineapple, water melon and honeydew.

Overall, we were satisfied with this meal for the environment, food (esp. the fresh salad and pasta) and the service. Will definitely come back next time. But the semi buffet lunch is only offered from Mon to Fri. They serve brunch on the weekend but it is more pricy.

無定位求其走入來, 反而很有意外驚喜, 那些Parma Ham, Salami 和Mortadella已值回票價, 而冷盤質素也很好.是日是磨菇湯, 不愛西湯的我也叫好甜品則包括:1. Apple Cake, 不過味道麻麻.2. Beautiful sunny day. Loved to have a nice relaxing lunch followed by a lazy afternoon to refresh my mind. Especially during weekday, good to escape from busy workplace, re-charge program.Haven't been here before, although I've heard of it for a while, passed by many times. Haven't been here before, although I've heard of it for a while, passed by many times. It's just a perfect time to give it a try. It's just slightly after the peak lunch hours, most tables were finishing and able to get an out-door seat. Very nice environment, feel like a tourist and take some pictures of the pier and harbour side. The area is rather small with so many tables but this is HK, can't expect too much on the space.

They serve semi-buffet lunch, maybe it's not peak hours, so no queue around the appetizer table, which is good. Big plate of salad vegetables, my favorite pumpkin, mozzarella cheese salad, grilled bell pepper, choices of ham and I love their bread. It's not a long buffet table but good enough for lunch.

I love their pumpkin soup, delicious.
Ordered risotto with mushroom sauce as main course, presentation made me think of congee 潮洲粥, not that bad but just too much sauce. The taste is quite good indeed.

Actually quite full after finishing the risotto, the portion is big; no room for dessert. They have some mini cakes and I picked 2 pieces to enjoy with my cappuccino.

Service is very good. The Italian manager has excellent customer service.


Good place to chill out.

Tried this Italian celebrity chef restaurant.Polipo – Octopus. Nicely made, tender and flavorful. The accompanying grains (?) and sauce was too sweet and detracts from the flavor. Maccheroni – In a carbonara sauce. I should have known better than order carbonara “sauce” because I do know the carbonara process, which is not a separately made sauce. However, being here for the first time one should give their self proclaimed specialty a try. But the main criticism is the so-called “al dente”. The pasta was crunch and hard, therefore unpleasant. May be in NYC and certainly in Hong Kong some people’s idea of al dente is crunchy, but for all the years I traveled in Italy not once had I come across pasta served crunchy. There being so much discussion on what al dente means I shall not comment further.

Cavatelli – with shrimps. Sauce was nice. I like shrimp or seafood sauce that can bring out the seafood taste, not tomato sauce mixed with seafood. However, the way undercooked problem again, though less offensive than the maccheroni.

Pizza – The dough was a biscuit dough, and we felt like we were eating frozen pizza. Quite disappointing for a restaurant that offers a variety of pizza so it should have been a specialty at a restaurant by a celebrity chef, whom should be depended on to avoid offering sub par items.

Osso Bucco – Now this was strange. The dish came out with two pieces of perfectly cylindrical slabs of meat, of identical size, with a hole carved out in the middle, where one finds some half melted bone marrows. Holes were of identical size too. They looked more like two thick slices of pineapple. How did they do this with veal shank? So we asked the waiter, who claimed ignorance, but went to ask the chef. He came back with the reply that the veal shank was cooked in a cylindrical terrine. “En terrine” style, he said. Humm. Now why would one want to do that? Why wouldn’t a perfectly normal piece of high quality veal shank with bone in, marrow inside, look a lot better? The outside of the veal shank often has a very think gelatinous layer, and separate muscles are often clearly visible and would taste that way. But this? I think the answer was on tasting. It tasted adequate, not great. But I cannot tell from the texture that this was veal shank. Was it even veal? Or something else cheaper like a cheek of pork or beef cheek, not the leg shank. Certainly the meat was red, so did not resemble veal in color. It was heavily coated in a thick red sauce so one cannot really tell. Now this strange cooking technique did not produce something tastier or of a more interesting texture. So what is the point unless…. Just my suspicion. I cannot prove anything. But should you want to find out, by all means pay the $280 or whatever the price is for an unexceptional tasting but strange looking dish.

3 of us went to Al Molo for brunch today. One of us did not like the brunch menu and ordered a la carte. The waitress was plain rude to us when taking the order and we felt she looked irate. We were particularly offended when she told us, with poker face, " you should know you are not allowed to share the salad bar buffet." We found her to be absolutely rude. We decided to tell the manager and he said that it is company policy to warn all brunch customers about this (although he did apologized).

We are astounded that Al Molo has such a company policy and they can do that with so little tact. After all, how could they accuse anyone of anything before it was actually committed ? If clients are actually sharing their buffet, they could charge them and do that tactfully. In any case, our mood was spoiled.

A respite from the buffet scene

In almost 95% of the buffets in Hong Kong, you will see hordes of customer hoping to get a “positive return on investment” on their buffet price by gorging at the cold seafood station. It’s a real turn-off for those of us who really enjoy the true luxury of a buffet: relax and choice free. What a Sunday brunch to me is a relaxed family good time. We decided to try Al Molo for Mother’s day.

To put the experience in perspective, my mother is rather picky on her restaurant experience. Whether it was the service, the flat wares, the selection of the appetizers or the execution of the main plate, usually something sets her off on a critique at length. Needless to say it is a strain to go to a buffet with all the extra contentious issues: rude fellow customers, unfilled choices, overcooked food, poor selection, and noise.

So I was ecstatic to say that this Mother’s day was an extraordinary success. I give my thanks to the staff at Al Molo for a great Sunday brunch.

Ambience:
It was too hot to sit outside on a sunny May morning. We opted for indoors. Predominately in brown tone with hardwood flooring, noise level was relatively low and we need not raise our voices to chat. The plush booth seats indoors are a very comfortable for a table for 4. The distance is close enough for conversation yet still spacious.

Fellow diners:
Somehow this place was different from the other establishments in Tsim Sha Tsui filled with tourists. Looking around, people there were locals, some speaking foreign language. Most importantly, there were no screaming kids, destructive teens, pushy uncles, etc. Nobody is fighting for the parma ham or picking out the fresh mozzarella out of the caprese salad. Civil.

Service
Hostess: I find the hostess a bit rude on the phone. I don’t care because my mother couldn’t hear her.
Servers: A bit rough with observations on empty plates and orders. Service provided in general was courteous.

Food:
The Sunday brunch was a semi buffet.

Buffet:
Salad station had arugula, rocket, and other mesclun players, with Caesar, Italian, vinaigrette dressing. The teasers include a large array of antipasto of artichoke, asparagus, endives, etc. of which I might add was very good (I had 2 refills myself). Rounding out the chill plate selections are generous caprese with (Somehow even 5 stars hotels give thin slices of fresh mozzarella. Here the fluffy slices are thick and refilled quickly), grilled shrimp salad. I am very happy with the quality here, because you can tell they were carefully made.
Next were salumi service, with parma ham, salami, honey ham and others in rotation, sliced very thin and in abundance. They went very well with my Pinot noir.
Cheese selection was parmesan, fontina, and brie. Each were sliced about ¼ inch squares for easy picking rather than let the buffet goers to decimate freely.
There was also mushroom soup and traditional fried rice balls, bread selection, etc.
Dessert were petite four-sized cakes and a house-made cream filled bomboloni . Which was very appropriate considering we liked the buffet so much we barely hard room for the entrée. I had 3 bomboloni…. Parents also really liked the Almond cake, which is smooth and lightly spiked with almond liquor.

Gorgeous. Very well browned on the outside and deep pink center. Poached egg benedict and fried potatoes. The steak was not a top US prime steak but it was very well executed. Very happily surprised.

Pasta was Casarecci, which is twisted pony-tail like. The spicy pomodoro sauce was a departure from the other plates and bounced on the palate. Speaking of bounce, the pastas at Al Molo seem to be house-made fresh. It was flavorful and al dente.

Summary:
We were very happy. My mother notes that it is the small things that show whether a restaurant has pride on its work, pointing out the antipasto, which she had seconds, and the care that was taken with the egg and potatoes. She, on mother’s day, wanted me to write to Al Molo that she had a great brunch today. I figured this is probably better. Thanks Al Molo for a great Mother’s day.

米芝蓮一、二星的食府,價錢必定貴。這裡招牌是「意粉」,開正我的口味。貴得來,吃一次也得叫人滿足。選了週日來,有brunch供應。來到再決定。走了一圈自助食物枱,確實只得沙律bar吸引。Brunch指定主菜,又太規限,想散叫。但姊一句「就吃出面那些啦,有風乾肉片呀!」那我自己也想一嚐多款的心,便「去馬」。然後下來,還神推鬼oen,叫錯主菜!!看過食評,Tagliatelle正是我想吃的意粉。我指著一個”T”字頭的名字叫一客,另一個叫意大利飯。侍應問我,什麼什麼要幾成熟,我答了medium well。何解明明一意粉,一飯,會問幾成熟!?心知不妙,但竟沒氣力去問清楚。「幸好」姊姊也愛肉食,就給她處理吧。牛肉有肉汁,她覺得好好吃。而我較欣賞伴側邊的芥辣蛋黃醬薯仔。而個意大利飯,又不是想像中咁菇味,飯份量非少,飯的軟硬度,硬了一點。真的很失望。餐咖啡,crema油脂很快散去,味道還可。整體來說,真的極不推介吃brunch,因為自助枱上的食物,除沙律外,沒一樣給驚喜,這些任食東西,應該不用到Mr White主理。所以真的散叫,會好好多。

老公生日,又要諗去邊度慶祝。朋友介紹海港城AL MOLO意大利餐廳,話個度食物一流,咁我就預早一日BOOK左二人位。當晚去到AL MOLO,全場爆滿,好彩有BOOKING,如果唔係唔知要等到幾耐。內裡裝修富有情調,全場昏暗,是情侶談情的好地方,但可惜的是枱與枱之間的距離太近,鄰枱講的內容我可以聽得清楚。而且樓底矮,全場食客交談的嘈音焗住係餐廳,搞到間餐廳嘈到似茶樓,大失風景!到點茶,餐牌內全部都係傳統意大利菜,我同老公都睇唔明,好彩待應好有耐性介紹推介菜色,最後我地點左海鮮ANGEL HAIR、PARA HAM PLAZA同AL LOMO特飲。雖然環境嘈雜,但食物OK。海鮮天使粉少少硬,剛剛熟,配合新鮮海鮮和酸甜的醬汁,咬中辣椒,辣死~PARM HAM PLAZA雖然只是PARA HAM配以蕃茄醬,但兩者配合得天衣無縫,焗出來的餅底不是麵包亦不是餅乾,而是鬆軟有層次的餅底。咬下去先是硬底,然後是芝士,但一個有6件,我吃左一件已經好full, 多D人食就好D,最後食唔晒要打包。AL LOMO特飲係WHISKY, 飲一啖已經好勁,暈得我一陣陣。埋單500,好貴,因為太嘈,成間高級茶餐廳咁,

到點茶,餐牌內全部都係傳統意大利菜,我同老公都睇唔明,好彩待應好有耐性介紹推介菜色,最後我地點左海鮮ANGEL HAIR、PARA HAM PLAZA同AL LOMO特飲。

雖然環境嘈雜,但食物OK。海鮮天使粉少少硬,剛剛熟,配合新鮮海鮮和酸甜的醬汁,咬中辣椒,辣死~
PARM HAM PLAZA雖然只是PARA HAM配以蕃茄醬,但兩者配合得天衣無縫,焗出來的餅底不是麵包亦不是餅乾,而是鬆軟有層次的餅底。咬下去先是硬底,然後是芝士,但一個有6件,我吃左一件已經好full, 多D人食就好D,最後食唔晒要打包。
AL LOMO特飲係WHISKY, 飲一啖已經好勁,暈得我一陣陣。

埋單500,好貴,因為太嘈,成間高級茶餐廳咁,唔想坐耐。

復活節假期最後一日,去Al Molo大吃一餐。本來想食Brunch,三百幾蚊一位,實在太貴,只好散叫。幾位朋友都細食,所以只叫了幾款食物。全店只有一款沙律,就係最大眾化的Caesar Salad,幾大盤,無咩特別。平時多數食parma ham,今次改叫selection,唔錯。仲有pizza,唔記得咩名,好多ham,食唔到芝士味,適合不愛cheese又不愛奶味的人,yummy。貌似螺絲粉,偏幼身同硬,食落有些微青草味,好fresh。另外,其實我最愛店內免費提供的麵包,一款有果仁,另一款沒有,我偏愛有果仁的包,微硬偏乾身,蘸橄欖油同醋食就剛剛好,不會太乾太硬。埋單每人都係百幾蚊,抵!

一會後,店員送上了暖水和餐牌,分別有以下幾款配搭:-
1) Buffet selection:即是salad,starters和desserts (HK$138)
2) Buffet selection with pasta or pizza (HK$178)
3) Buffet selection with main course (HK$228)
以店子的地段和環境,加上星級大廚,價錢可說是相當合理!
而且款式多,細食的女仕們大可只點Buffet selection,而加四十元就有一個意大利粉或薄餅
一向大食的我們,自然不能滿足於Buffet selection,最後選了兩個Buffet selection with pasta l pizza的套餐,情人節怎能餓著肚子呢?!

吃過沙律後,就到我們偏好的cold cut,有Parma Ham,Salami Milano和Mortadella,有點失望,因為沒有我喜愛的煙三文魚!
但不要緊,原來三款cold cut的水準都相當高,尤其是Parma Ham,咸度剛好,將薄切的Parma Ham加入暖暖的麵包吃,感覺味覺對比大,非常滿足!

老公仔亦找到他想試的芝士,是Mozzarella ,更有Chicken Salad和最後登場的Egg Plant,Mozzarella味道不太香濃,而且質感較鬆散,尚有進步空間,Chicken Salad則有驚喜,雞肉雖沒有很濃的雞鮮味,但肉質頗為嫰滑,加上配上獨特醬汁,酸酸的感覺,很易入口,豐富味蕾
Egg Plant不是我杯茶,但觀乎是店方添加次數最多的餐盆,應是最受食客歡迎的一道前菜,老公仔亦大讚好吃,全賴店方將矮瓜醃製得香濃惹味,入口軟腍,很配胃

湯品方面,就只有南瓜湯,南瓜味極之濃郁,湯本身較稠,味道是不錯的,只嫌湯品選擇較少
同時見到有其他的蛋糕和水果,還是忍忍口,待吃完意粉批薩才再吃!
此時我們已經吃了五至六碟前菜,見意粉和薄餅還未送上,問個究竟,才發現原來是要食客再指示店員才會送上的!
大家請留意,否則會像我們一樣情不自禁地吃多了頭盆

Tagliatelle即是意大利細麵條加上肉醬,第一個感覺有點像平時吃到的肉醬意粉,麵條較一般意粉幼滑軟腍,吃落則很煙韌彈牙,醬汁則非常惹味,帶點酸酸的蕃茄和富肉香的牛肉碎,是傳統Tagliatelle的吃法

薄餅選了Salsiccia,餡料包括pork suasage, rabe,smoked Mozzarella
餅底不太厚,鬆軟得來又帶香脆,芝士相當豐富,吃起來很香滑可口
一個人的份量着實頗多,話雖如此,因為越吃越滋味,我們不自覺地把整個薄餅掃清!

甜品的款式較少,只有數款蛋糕,包括Apple Cake,Chocolate Cake, Cheese Cake,還有心形的Custard Donut,應該是為情人節而製作的,相當有心思!
當中較喜歡Cheese Cake,芝士味香濃之餘又不太甜,而且細細件賣相相當精緻!而賣相精美的心形Custard Donut,相信熱食效果會較好,Custard澎湃地湧出,甜甜的,十分應節!
來一杯咖啡作結,最好不過!

P.S. 旁邊的BLT Steak原來屬於同一集團,今次的Al Molo體驗十分滿意,下次再去BLT Steak試過究竟,再向大家報告!

Finally, with the chance of Restaurant Week, I tried the lunch buffet.

Buffet includes antipasti, salad, soup, dessert.
You could order one main course.

smooth, strong smell with good texture
definitely worth a try

2. antipasti buffet with salad bar
parma ham with good quality
a brunch of vegetable to choose from
about 10 dishes, quite impressive
fresh bread provided as well
we especially like the portobello
it's soft & juicy

3. Main course, with impressive look!

-grilled king prawns with polenta cream
i think the cream has done the great job
and the prawns are great taste!

I would say it's quite good, of course, it's totally different from Chinese cooking

晚上近八時才有餓的感覺,走到面向維多利亞港的Al Molo Ristorante Italiano吃晚飯,全因餐廳室外的位置很吸引。剛好有顧客離開,侍應收拾妥當後,我們便可入座。雖然天氣有點寒冷,但風不算猛,餐廳還提供火爐保溫,環境真的很理想。我們吃了火腿、薄餅、意粉、甜品等,感覺不過不失。餐牌全英文,有些食物實在不知道是甚麼,便向外籍侍應查詢,可惜她的解釋頗含糊,最後還是見到實物才明白。價錢不算便宜,我只會偶一為之。

一行5人的生日飯。當晚所有野食都做得好美味,好出色。而令我印象最深刻的是一個蟶子湯 (Zuppa),鮮甜無比。自從以前星街的Cine Citta,今次終於可以食返一流的Homemade Pasta。當中Maccheroni 極為彈牙,而且每一條通心粉都入左美味的汁,簡簡單單的一味通心粉可以如此出色,極為精彩。
