Went there for lunch today with my wife. Ordered 2 #3 laksa with added egg and tofu. Laksa soup was tasty and consistent to all the other times that we went. They gave lots of fish cakes and tofu. Wished the shrimp were bigger though. But there is the supreme version with prawns, which are quite a bit more but they included 2 big prawns - ie you get more but you also pay more. Went there for lunch today with my wife. Ordered 2 #3 laksa with added egg and tofu. Laksa soup was tasty and consistent to all the other times that we went. They gave lots of fish cakes and tofu. Service was below average as they mixed up our order and gave us someone else's. Luckily we told them - so the other party did not have to wait like us. They also ran out of tung choi veggies so we did not order a side dish as per our usual visits. The owner does basically everything except wait on tables and cook the laksa. She needs better waitresses - at least at lunch when there are crowds.

That said, I would continue to go back because they usually treat us very well, and the price is good for the food that you get.

I have tried almost everything at Katong, apart from the Pork rib tea, so tried it at last.The other places I tried the pork rib tea were:Yeoh's Bah Kut Teh Malaysia Port KlangSabahYeoh’s and Malaysia Port Klang basically taste the same because it is opened by the same owner.Their tea is strong in shiitake mushroom taste and sweet too.Sabah however is strong with herb taste, especially the dong-gwai, the ribs are whole long ribs with lots of meat.Katong is similar, not the greasy, but the qualit

I have tried almost everything at Katong, apart from the Pork rib tea, so tried it at last.

The other places I tried the pork rib tea were:
Yeoh's Bah Kut Teh
Malaysia Port Klang
Sabah

Yeoh’s and Malaysia Port Klang basically taste the same because it is opened by the same owner.
Their tea is strong in shiitake mushroom taste and sweet too.
Sabah however is strong with herb taste, especially the dong-gwai, the ribs are whole long ribs with lots of meat.
Katong is similar, not the greasy, but the quality of the pork isnt that good.

Also tried the Kaya toast, was amazed how thin the toast was, the thickness of the two pieces of toasts sandwiched together is the thickness of one thin toast. Each slice was about 4mm thick, which was good, because there was lots of runny Kaya in it, ready to drip out!
The taste was sweet and creamy.

因為在門外見到蔡瀾同周文琦的照片推介,即管試一試,結果普通無驚喜。正宗叻沙:蝦好少又細隻,蜆肉好腥,湯底OK,卻不惹味,$51一碗都幾貴。海南雞飯:真係認真麻麻,少餸,飯不夠香。未至於好差,不過我唔會再來。

I'm in a pickle. I am a Singaporean. But I am also a huge advocate regarding the variety and quality of dining that can be found in Hong Kong.

Therefore I cannot express how disappointed I remain with the fact that I simply cannot find a store that sells authentic, tasty Singaporean / Malaysian food. There are plenty of pretenders that line the streets and malls in our humble city, yet none of them can compare to a SG$2.00 bowl / plate of noodles found at random hawker centers in Singapore.

So needless to say, when my friend decided to take me to this "Laksa place" for lunch, I was understandably skeptical. This restaurant is tucked into a small street close to Sheung Wan MTR, and boasts several tasty-looking neighbours as well. Note: this place fills up in a hurry during lunch hour. Although the place was empty when we arrived, within three minutes (no exaggeration), it was completely packed, and a line formed outside. Popularity test: check.

Two of us ordered the Laksa Supreme - with tofu, cockles, fish cakes, eggs and sliced prawn. The remaining oddity ordered the Prawn Mee - noodles in a prawn broth with prawn, tofu and kang kong (通菜). Between us we ordered one more bowl of soupy vegetables.

The Laksa was decent. While not anything to brag about, its taste was half-authentic. Singaporeans would definitely lament its lack of chili and its mild taste (for me it was too watered down), but its ingredients were ample and noodles' texture was good. However, I have to lament the fact that despite the store's name, the bowl of noodles served was definitely NOT "Katong Laksa". Katong Laksa is famous for its rich, prawn paste filled soup, and and the fact that it can be eaten purely with spoons. The noodles are usually cut up, meaning that chopsticks are redundant. The lack of these characteristics mean that while the dish is definitely Laksa, labeling it 'Katong' should be considered a travesty.

My friend's Prawn Mee, which she devoured enthusiastically (not really giving me a chance to really try it), seemed alright. The yellow noodles (粗面) were of the right texture and taste, but while my friend enjoyed it, the soup did not pass muster with me. Being spoiled by Singapore / Johor Bahru's delicious broth, the soup tasted bland and unimpressive.

While not overtly rude, the staff definitely dropped hints that we were taking too long. But since we did take close to 45 minutes during a business lunch hour rush, I sort of understand (though still disagree with) their actions.

If you haven't tried a bowl of Laksa before, this is a half-decent place to come and get your feet (or tongue) wet. Out of the few places I've tried so far, this would top the list. Don't expect to be blown away though - your best bet would be to hop on a plane and head south.

已經試左肉骨茶, 咖央多士, 叻沙, rojak, 今次試下米暹~~叫左個最平既米暹, $32, 只有蝦, 豆卜蝦係開邊ge, 睇落好似好多, 共有6 邊, 即係3隻, 唔梅ar, 幾彈口豆卜就切碎曬,又好似好多咁, 基本上好似成碗都鋪滿曬餸, d豆卜同米粉吸收d酸酸辣辣既湯汁, 好好味成碗野份量都幾多下, 不過返到屋企就有d口渴要飲水仲有d特色甜品可以留返下次試~~

大蝦大概五六寸長,顏色有點慘白,不如湯底般橙紅,外貌協會的人應該很失落。

脫殼後把蝦肉放入口,所料不及的鮮甜蝦味滿載,啖啖肉,加錢另配果然值得。

雞絲叻沙內容有比預期多的雞絲、豆腐、數片蝦肉和少量芽菜。

我是搞不清正宗的叻沙裡芽菜份量應有多少,只知一般在港吃到的叻沙,芽菜通常比麵底份量還要多,應該是店方唔值錢食材充大碗的手法。加東這裡的芽菜卻是少得出奇的,其實,也正合我意。

橙紅色湯底看似奇辣無比,實則並非如此。香而不辣,椰醬味濃,喝後不口渴,正啊!

這份午餐雖然不便宜,不過物有所值。跟著人潮走,果然無揀錯餐廳。

餐牌上還有蝦麵、巴東牛肉等馬來菜式,下次再試。

Heard about this Laksa resturant and want to try long. It is disappointed about its quality.I ordered 蝦麵和正宗叻沙。價錢贵不用講,最糟的是物非所值。蝦麵無蝦味,湯底無用蝦殼去做。Laksa 就更差,無味兼不香,只有色無味。甚麽正宗連馬來辣酱都欠逢,還要叫才有,空調又無,只開一個一匹分体加風傘,好似芬蘭浴。 可見此店老板為人姑寒。

There are a few laksa places in this street and we randomly picked this one for a quick tea before an appointment. We looked at the menu and most of the dishes are quick expensive e.g. special laksa or some sort costs $70 a bowl! I picked prawn noodle with fishball. The so-called prawns were actually one tiny piece of prawn cut into two halves, not fresh at all. The noodle soup base did not taste like prawn either. I picked prawn noodle with fishball. The so-called prawns were actually one tiny piece of prawn cut into two halves, not fresh at all. The noodle soup base did not taste like prawn either. There were quite some fishball but in very thin slices.

I definitely don't think the noodle worths $36 with the ingredients and the taste. I would think a simple tea set at any Chinese tea house with the same price would taste better than this. The bubbly ribena we ordered was only bubbly for the first two sips. It went flat pretty soon.

Saw the poster that Choi-san actually recommended this place - perhaps he needs to think twice about it. No need to try here unless you don't mind wasting your money...

星期日夜晚7:00,上環都好靜,有咩人行,大部分舖都關門,我都係無心插柳地選擇呢間食晚飯(又見門外有蔡瀾推介食肆之一)。一行二人點了招牌叻沙、串燒、清菜,但係串燒給我有少少驚喜,沙爹醬好好味,即叫即燒,豬牛鷄串燒肉質剛好,值得一試,其他OK!

食過呢間幾次,因為上環區的喇沙,呢間算唔錯今次試左正宗叻沙,雞絲叻沙,串燒,咖哩雞正宗叻沙D海鮮一般冇咩鮮味,反而雞絲叻沙幾好串燒唔多得好凍好似放左好耐,味道又唔好咖哩雞又係唔多得,都係食返叻沙好

I like noodles, but I like good noodles. I went to Katong Laksa Prawn Mee today, but was so disappointed with the prawn mee noodles. Noodles were so disgusting . The shrimps they used were not fresh and taste so bad. The soup was no taste. I definitely cannot find any noodles Restaurant can be worse than here. I will definitely not go back again.

他們的蝦麵吃了有被揾笨的感覺。我叫了墨丸蝦麵,墨丸就夠多啦!蝦就好可憐咁得一小片,眼力差D都睇唔到。最令人失望係佢個湯底,淡而冇味,我去蝦麵店吃的湯底是用好多蝦頭煲出來的,所以湯係紅紅地,飲落有蝦味的。點知呢度D係豉油色既!?!我老公叫咗巴東牛肉飯,味道似satay汁加水一點不像平時吃的。呢間嘢真係第次咪攪我!

做完gym同友人各要一碗正宗叻沙。湯底好味,椰味ok濃,微微辣,對口味。料有蝦、蛋、很多see hum、魚片、牙菜。用檬粉,ok。不平,成$51一碗。再加支可樂中和吓。
