Initially learning about this place through some local vloggers, I wasn't entirely sure what I expected. The videos online showed impressive looking sashimi structures, with towering poles of sake and roe constructs, each threatening to topple over with their freshly diced goodness. However, when I finally got a chance to try the place out, the popular choices (all salmon) were apparently sold out at 7pm. However, when I finally got a chance to try the place out, the popular choices (all salmon) were apparently sold out at 7pm. No matter, we got the black squid ink sashimi tower don, which supposedly came with a tower of squid ink, cucumbers, scallops and other misc fishes I guess. For three dons on the go, the total bill was $300 – a little pricey. The dons were filled with ingredients and rice (more rice that is), but the tower was regrettably missing. I guess they can't really fit it for takeaway.
The rice itself is good, and the squid ink choice was really fun and unique to eat. The black ink tasted fresh, with a slight oceany flavour, and ended up staining fingers, clothes, and of course, mouths. Every bite was black as night, with chunks of soft scallop meat and crunchy cucumbers. The salmon dons came with big scoops of roe, which mixed well with the rice. The salmon slices could be more equally matched to the amount of rice, but again, everything was fresh and that's probably the most importantly quality one looks for in Japanese cuisine.
