Kicho is the new yakitori joint in Central. But oh my…it is probably the most disappointing meal so far in 2022.

They use a free range chicken bred so the meat is relatively tougher than three yellow chicken. Hence, the meat is less forgiving.

It started with a rather bland minced chicken ball in chicken soup. The chicken ball was with a very soft yet dry texture.

Charcoal scared breast meat Tataki with dried mullet roe and Tosa vinegar was refreshing but acidity was all that I could taste.

Yakitori-Sasami (Tenderloin) topped with salmon roe doesn’t do much and the seaweed was not crispy.

Liver patty Monaka has a bit of a bitter aftertaste 😖

Despite their charcoal grill, you can’t taste any charcoal taste at all for all skewers! How?! It’s just astonishing cause you see them grill in front of you but you can’t taste it at all! All yakitori pieces were quite dry, except the wagyu beef and chicken wing. But honestly, Sushi Yayoi’s grilled chicken wings are way stronger than theirs!

Quite a few items’ flavor combinations were weird. The Mochi with chicken miso was just a tasteless Mochi and a spoon of salty miso on top. The courgette with parmigiano reggiano cheese just doesn’t work.

The only good item is actually a non yakitori item which is their Kicho special chicken soup ramen. It was a very rich and thick chicken soup with thin noodles, just the perfect match. It instantly warms your heart and soul. I am so glad that at least I have this one item for the night. Honestly, one of the best chicken soup ramen I have ever had.

The palate cleanser was actually quite tasteless. I liked their wasabi ice cream and their egg pudding but nothing superb.

Overall, it’s not worth the price and the food is really just meh.

Service wise, a female staff tried her best to introduce all items. But the Japanese chef kept scolding the local sous chef and often giving him death stares. The dynamic is so intense that I really dislike the tension just by sitting there.

Price: HK$1100 pp (dinner)
