Dined here on a Wednesday night. We did enjoy our meal. Contrary to many Openrice reviews, we had satisfactory service, even when it was a full house. Food was nice. Not “wow”. Portion size tends to be on the slightly smaller side. Thousand cut “Chrysanthemum” tofu is worth ordering to see fine Chinese knife skills. Smoked tea leaves prawns were very nice — very smoky and prawns were very fresh and larger size than in other restaurants. Total bill was $1000 for 2 people for pork dish x1, prawn d

Smoked tea leaves prawns were very nice — very smoky and prawns were very fresh and larger size than in other restaurants. Total bill was $1000 for 2 people for pork dish x1, prawn dish x1, veggie x1, starter chrysanthemum tofu x1, fried rice x1, sorbet x1, no drinks.
Decor was excellent, very classy. Great for entertaining. Lighting was in places a bit too dim and music was at times a bit too loud.
I would make the pointed observation that we both found it strange that our wait staff addressed us every time with “dear” (“what would you like dear? Here’s your smoked prawns dear. How has the food been dear? Every time). We think that would be ok and appropriate for a casual eatery but is inappropriate for a classy restaurant (such as Chinese Library). In my >20 years of eating at fine dining restaurants I have never experienced similar kind of inappropriate befriendment. I hope the restaurant will take it as constructive feedback.
