Overpriced and lacks hospitality

Had lunch at The Coffee Academics around Friday noon, the cafe was already quite busy. They had lunch sets, but the selection seemed too heavy (pastas, risotto, burger etc) so we ordered from the a la carte menu instead. Flat White 澳式咖啡 $45 Obviously they are supposed to be known for their coffee here, but I've always felt that the coffee is massively overpriced. It's not bad, it's a strong cup, but definitely not worth the price tag. You can get better coffee nearby for less. Smoked Salmon Rost

 I ordered this dish as it sounded nice and light. However, I felt that it ate quite salty. The potato rosti was nice and crispy, but as it was thin, there wasn't enough potato to compliment the saltiness. On top of that, was some yogurt, kale, smoked salmon and salmon roe. Both salmon items are quite salty on their own already, so on top of a salty potato cake, it was just too much. The poached egg was also a bit overcooked so it didn't really have the runny yolk to cut through all of that. If there was more hollandaise on the plate (came with a small dollop), it would have helped.

My friend ordered the Avocado Toast, which is a classic and can't really go wrong with it. It's served with a thick piece of toast and a good portion of smashed avocado. Not sure what role the Nori had to play in it though. 


The thing that ruined our lunch experience was the rudeness of the staff. We pointed and said 'Avocado Toast' when ordering off the menu, but the staff thought we pointed at something else (didn't mention that they couldn't hear us) so they served up an Eggs Benedict instead. When we told them that wasn't what we ordered, they outright just said we didn't point at the toast, instead of saying that they'll switch it for us. If The Coffee Academics is trying to go for a comfortable cafe environment, they definitely didn't achieve it. Hospitality was cold and interior isn't particularly cosy either. We also had to try very hard to get staff attention through our meal as they kept looking down, when ordering, switching plates and paying the bill, we had to get up and go up to them in order to get their attention. 


Overall, I don't think it's good value for money 🥺
