Tang Lung Street in Causeway Bay is now fondly known as ramen street. With 7 ramen restaurants in this one small side street, I've tried them all. But boyfriend hasn't. So, on this evening, he wanted to try out Kanada-ya (金田家).Kanada-ya originates from Fukuoka. An area of Japan that has many well known ramen shops all focusing on the rich hearty tonkatsu broth. When it first opened, I gave it a try and liked it a lot. But as there are so many new ramen shops that opened up, I kept trying others.

Kanada-ya originates from Fukuoka. An area of Japan that has many well known ramen shops all focusing on the rich hearty tonkatsu broth. When it first opened, I gave it a try and liked it a lot. But as there are so many new ramen shops that opened up, I kept trying others. But every so often, I return here again because the flavor was familiar and the taste was decent.

Recently, they underwent a huge renovation. I haven't been here since the renovation. It's now brighter with a huge lighted up front. Inside it's shiny and clean.  The dark wooden tables are now a light brown.

The menu has also changed. Menu is in English, Japanese and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge and you pay on your way out. Along with their signature tonkatsu, they also have a yuzu one as well. They also have more variety and even a junior size for those that want something smaller. They now also have a menu with photos of everything.

As it was boyfriend's first time here, he chose the chasu tonkatsu ramen ($98). It arrived in a circle of charsiu. The charsiu was tender and sliced very thin. There wasn't a layer of fat like some places.

The broth was a milky white broth. Deeply rich but not overly oily like some places.

I decided on something different. This is the spicy yuzu ramen ($98). The last time I had yuzu ramen was in Tokyo at the very famous Afuri. Well, it's not Afuri but it wasn't too bad.

The broth was a bit on the spicy side. I didn't expect it to be so spicy. This  overpowered the taste of yuzu.

The noodles were a good consistency. Firm and smooth. No starchy after taste. The soup clung well to it.

I added $14 for the egg and gave half to boyfriend as it's known around ramen groups that this place is the best ramen egg in town. Or at least ranked among the top. Probably why none of their ramen come with an egg and you have to order it as extra. The yolk was a beautiful color and super runny all the way through. The marinade was a bit on the salty side this time.

We shared some snacks. This is the chicken karaage ($35). There was a crispy coating on top unlike other karaage which just have a seasoned coating and rely more on the chicken skin for crunch. Here they removed the chicken sin and so substituted the crunch with a light batter. It was nicely seasoned and the meat was moist and juicy.

Boyfriend wanted a croquette. Two arrive for the price of $38 as there are two flavors: purple sweet potato and beef. We expected only one but wow ... you get two!

The purple potato (on the left) was ok. I think boyfriend liked that more. I felt the taste didn't come through. I liked the beef one more (on the right). It was creamy in consistency. The coating was crunchy.

A whole new revamped look with new items on the menu. The tonkatsu is still good but as always the egg is the star. Portions are not small like other places and so a decent value. Will be back as I seem to return here every so often.
