TLDR; Excellent and highly recommend for anyone looking for excellent HK style foods

Growing up, the original Yuen Long store was one of my parent's favourite go-to snack stores. When they had heard there was a branch in Sha Tin, we were more than excited to try it out to see how it compared to the original store! Needless to say, we were not disappointed at all and would definitely come here again for its high quality food!

We ordered 2 lunch sets to share between 2 people, and 1 dessert in the end.
1. 永年招牌車仔麵 (套餐）$118
If you were to order the bowl of noodles a la carte, it would only be $88, but because we wanted to try some of the snacks they offered, we opted for the better deal of $118 that came with a large bowl of noodles and 2 side dishes. The two side dishes than came with the meal were spicy cucumbers (warning: 麻辣, but there's no English word for this.. either way it's very spicy), and fermented red beancurd chicken wings. The cucumbers were fresh and crunchy, and even though it was extremely spicy, the chilli oil did not make the cucumbers taste too slimy or oily and they still managed to retain the crisp texture. The chicken wings smelt very strongly of fermented red beancurd, and it was definitely worth trying. The wings were tender and juicy, with a crunchy exterior. However, if you dislike spice or the smell of fermented food, these side dishes would not be for you.

As for the noodles, we could not rate this highly enough! The noodles had a strong classical egg taste and stringy texture of chinese flat noodles, and the soup base was very aromatic, infused with a mix of spices and beef brisket taste. There were also so many toppings that it felt like discovering a hidden surprise every bite! One of the more remarkable toppings in our opinion were the pork blood curds (豬紅). Personally I never really liked it because of the strange, metallic taste that it often has, but the pork blood curds here were phenomenal! Their texture was smooth and silky, and it was clearly braised and cooked in the same soup base as the noodles, which made it absorb the flavours well. There were also fishballs that were classical for Hong Kong style 士多！Would highly recommend this if you're looking for an elevated version of your favourite cart noodles.

2. 懷舊鐵板餐牛扒 ($108)
We ordered a medium steak and although when you cut through the meat, there were not areas of red anymore, it was still extremely tender and juicy. I was surprised by how soft and delicious the meat was! This again was an elevated version of the classical HK western restaurant style steak! The fries were ok, though the vegetables were cooked slightly too soft. Overall, great piece of steak for its price!

3. Drinks:
We added $9 to each of the above sets to try out their special drinks: A hot honey dates drink and an iced red bean matcha drink. The red beans in the red bean matcha drink were extremely round and texturised - a great add on to the already amazing food!

4. 土炮大茶飯
For dessert, we ordered the egg puffs that came with an ice cream and an amalgamation of traditional HK snacks. Although this was very sweet, it the egg waffle base was quite good, and there was a good ratio of a crunchy exterior to the soft interior. There was strong vanilla taste throughout, and compliments the traditional HK candies well. We would highly recommend this to anyone (especially travellors!) if they are looking to try out all the traditional HK snacks in one go! Great quality food and definitely enough to share between 2 -3 people

Overall, would highly recommend this place! Even though the price may seem quite steep, for its quality and location (shatin new town plaza), it was definitely worth every penny! Excellent for an elevated version of your favourite traditional HK foods!
