Its a nice small shop run by locals with an impressive food menu option. Normally with izakayas they tend to have a very limited food menu - I think they have a good balance between the food offerings (sashimi, bar food and snacks) and sake selections. I really like their grilled ox tongue - amazingly thick cut and juicy. They also had a very interesting chicken skin dumpling which was very well made and had a great crunch to it. Other skewers were acceptable but unfortunately the quality was lagging behind some other izakayas specialising in skewers. Deep fried food was a bit of a miss - batter wise was more closed aligned to Chinese deep fried dishes than Japanese. I was rather let down by their lack of oolong-hai options for shochu - but they do have some reasonably priced drinks.
I have seen whisky and shochu on the shelf - assuming you can request for these drinks but didn’t really see it on the regular drinks menu.
I have heard they welcome BYO without fee - best to check with the staff there to confirm
