Finally had the chance to visit after hearing much raving by my friends. Overall, service and ambience was excellent but food was below my expectation. Ordered nasi lemak, fried kueh teow and wan tan mee. It's all tasty but VERY greasy and sambal was not spicy, tasted like off-the-shelf sambal. Teh tarik was diluted and serving size was small. 一向喜歡吃馬拉菜,經常掛念上次的檳城旅行。一天看到這馬菜館的介紹,便相約朋友放工來試試。
這里的菜式唔算豐富,主要係馬拉常見的著名菜式,例如我最愛吃的炒粿條。

I, as a three-year resident of our South China outpost, have been fully indoctrinated with the passive aggressive indignation one is expected to feel towards Singapore. I’ll now take the ramshackle chaos and fishball fragrance of Honkers over the cleanliness and equanimity of Singers every time.

So, it was with a slight hesitation that I accepted an invitation to celebrate Chinese New Year with the Singapore Society of Hong Kong. The dinner was to be held at Café Malacca, Hotel Jen’s signature restaurant.

Café Malacca is heralded as a little piece of Singapore in Hong Kong. And in a way with its strip lighting, utilitarian design and disappointing wine menu is exactly what you’d find in many a Singaporean eatery. Along with its reputation as the purveyor of Hong Kong’s finest Malaysians fare, in its spare time Café Malacca also operates as hotel Jen’s breakfast room. So, the wonderful sights of the varied buffet was somewhat marred by huge vats on cornflakes.

The evening commenced as you might expect; niceties, smiles and exchanging of business cards. But quickly took an unexpected turn as our compere announced we’d indulge in a traditional salad toss. Now, where I come from ‘tossing the salad’ (see Urban Dictionary if you must) is not discussed in polite conversation, let alone performed on mass. However, I quickly found out that the tossing of the prosperity salad (Lo-Hei Yu Sheng) is a Cantonese tradition on the seventh day of the New Year. We received an enormous plate of raw fish, shredded vegetables, pickles and fine noodles and instructed to chuck it all up in the air with our chopsticks while recounting an auspicious saying. This was all very jovial, especially as our table had consumed more wine than the rest of the restaurant put together.

The salad would have provided ample sufficiency but the extravagant buffet still lay ahead. As the aroma of charred, sticky satay had been filling the room while we were flinging noodles about, that was my first port of call. If the beef and chicken satay was the only dish I ate that night I would have left a very happy man. That was until I mopped-up the remaining satay sauce with roti prate. This was deliciously crispy, yet moist and buttery and completely moreish.

I reluctantly moved away from the satay station and, as I was rocking an exceptionally overpriced shirt which narrowly escaped the Lo-Hei massacre, I skipped the laksa station and headed straight for curry action. I quickly lost track of what I was eating but the mixing of various sauces and meats provided a wholly satisfying experience (especially when scooped up in yet more prata!). The meat was perfectly tender and gravy was rich in texture and flavour, providing a perfect end to the meal.

Love the chicken rice here. We always upgrade to the thigh meat. The other dishes are okay, not spectacular but definitely work as comfort food. Its a shame the prices are a little on the expensive side. Still, we like to come here from time to time. Note that they're usually full on weekends around lunch time so it would be wise to call ahead in the week and make a reservation.

今天大年初二,和家人吃個美味意頭午餐!就到小妹和老公的飯堂吧!這裡的馬拉菜實在無人能夠取代~ 先點一度星馬特式的賀年菜,撈起($238小),當中主要配料有魚生,取其「風生水起」及「越撈越旺」的意頭,其他配料還有紅蘿蔔絲、中華沙律、生菜絲、西芹絲、柚子及薄脆等,單時賣相已經一流。 本身配料已經混入了少許桔子汁,旁邊另配一碟酸梅醬以供調味之用,這道菜的味道開胃,為不錯的餐前小食,不過稱不上很突出。 其他主食,當然要點我們的最愛啦,海南雞飯($118),雞夠嫩滑,油飯入味!正! 肉骨茶($108),排骨夠腍身,湯足藥材味,油炸鬼亦香脆,保持水準! 小妹的至愛,星加坡喇唦($98),湯味依舊充滿香濃蝦味,重椰汁味,配料的蝦似乎有所改良,比以前的大隻,肉質更彈牙,好好好味呀~ 老公至愛,肉脞麵($92),配料有豬肉醉、豬膶及冬菇,麵以特製甜豉油撈勻,加上附送的豬膶肉丸湯,適合女士們,味道亦佳! 小妹的至愛,咖吔多($35),外皮烤得香脆,內裡的斑蘭葉咖吔醬加上牛油,還有其他多士比它好吃嗎? 還發現了這裡有VIP房可Book,最多可容納50人,下次有大型聚會可以考慮這裡呀! 繼續努力!小妹會繼續支

同朋友食團年飯,提議黎呢間馬來一,平日7點都有很多吉枱,唔明點解經常話full booking,環境相當不錯,簡潔舒適,十分清靜。先點飲品,椰青中規中舉;拉茶很香茶味,略甜,奶味也很濃;然後的玫瑰青檸,味道清淡,帶點青檸香味。點了幾款招牌菜,各具特色,先來了檳城抄貴刁,賣相唔錯,抄得相當有獲氣,帶辣很香口,油份很重,份量不多,所以不是太膩,好吃!咖喱羊肉,羊肉尚帶小小氈味,入口腍而不韌,咖喱比較稀身及味道不濃。牛肉串燒,牛肉比較靭,可能燒得比較熟,沙爹汁有別於其他菜館,佢地呢個汁帶很多花生粒,味道不太香濃,側跟配有飯團,食落感覺像飯糕還是頭一回試到,整體稍為遜色。棷漿飯拼盤,賣相豐富,飯粒但點點甜味及椰香味,炸雞炸得很香脆,𥚃面既肉還很juicy,但我至愛係飯上面既煎蛋呢款喇沙係必食既,食料豐富,湯底微辣好醒胃,不太杰身,所以一點也不膩,以往我到其他食店食喇沙食到中尾段已經覺得膩不想吃下去,但呢度食完沒有此感覺,我至愛係溏心蛋及豆卜。招牌海南鷄飯又係必食,好小食到咁嫩滑既海南鷄,配上𧐢油獻汁點點鮮味,十分美味。最後甜品D24榴蓮布甸很香濃既榴蓮味,似係食緊榴蓮肉一様,仲帶點奶香,喜歡吃

由於今朝太早吃午飯的關係,我倆很快便餓了,雖然只是五時許,老公已經開始敖不住了,倒不如早點吃個晚飯吧!這個鐘數就像包場一樣,正啊! 晚市雖然六時才開始,但只有少數食品沒有。先每人來碗星加坡喇沙,暫時它在小妹心目中的地位仍然屹立不倒,湯底蝦味濃,椰汁味香,口感香滑,不怕肥的可以把它喝清,配上糖心蛋丶魚蛋及豆卜,很地道,如果蝦是新鮮的就更完美! 印尼沙津,一心以為是我之前吃的有蘋果和洋桃的那款,原來已經轉了⋯現在用料有青豆丶薯仔丶青瓜丶娃娃菜及魚蛋,大部分都是小妺不喜歡的,這個有點失望😞 不過,這𥚃的喇唦依然是無敵的!還會再來呀~

印尼沙津,一心以為是我之前吃的有蘋果和洋桃的那款,原來已經轉了⋯現在用料有青豆丶薯仔丶青瓜丶娃娃菜及魚蛋,大部分都是小妺不喜歡的,這個有點失望😞

I have been to several restaurants in HK but hardly find a restaurant that provide close to authenticity of Singaporean/ Malaysian food. Take for example, satay that Cafe Malacca provides are right in size (not under or over sized) and also being properly marinated which is lacking in most restaurants that sell satay in HK. Another example would be our typical Mee Siam where one can hardly find Mee Siam in HK and let alone to get similar taste back in our home country.Strongly recommend anyone w

西環馬來一菜館一直很想試試這間餐廳但因為各種原因沒來。今天終於過海來試一試這裡的菜。點了印尼沙律,新加坡叻沙和薏米水。價錢是$140.8連加一。印尼加多加多沙律的味道還算正宗。都幾好吃Enak新加坡叻沙湯底也做得對辦。但如果湯底可以杰返少少會更加好。這間餐廳算是本地比較正宗嘅新加坡菜。值得再去。

仲食到淡淡的椰汁香👏🏼
亮點係西米塔底的紅糖醬🍯
微甜的西米糕🍮
再點少少紅糖醬一齊食😋
簡直係完美配搭🙆🏻

Always a big fan of Malaysian food, and Assam Laksa is my absolute favourite dish.Have been hearing a lot of good comments on Cafe Malacca and we decided to give it a try and it's now so much easier to get to Kennedy Town by mtr  We weren't too hungry therefore we didn't have chance to try much but the classic 2 - Assam Laksa and Nasi Lemak.Oh my, it was the long lost taste I have been missing!  Such a pity that most places in HK serve Katong laksa instead of this beautiful bowl.  It was my hub

Oh my, it was the long lost taste I have been missing!  Such a pity that most places in HK serve Katong laksa instead of this beautiful bowl.  It was my hubby's first time trying this and he loves it too!

The Lasi Lemak was alright, not as excited as the Assam Laksa as it was a but dry...

We were stuffed but it didn't stop us to try their Kuih Dadar, which has an adorable pandan and coconut flavour.

Am already missing the Assam Laksa when writing this review and will for sure go back to try more dishes
