Long awaited my favourite sandwich shop Prêt à Manger finally opened in Kowloon Bay! Finally a place that truly offers fresh and delicious sandwiches, baguettes, wraps, cakes, hot soup, bakery items etc. I no longer have to suffer from the horrible food from the local sandwich shops or the mediocre salads at Groves. Furnished in standard Prêt's main theme in natural woods and its signature red, the shop is very eye catching. The shop was relatively big when compares to many other branches located in Hong Kong, there actually are quite a few indoor seating for diners. As in its name Prêt à Manger (in Endlish, ready to eat), everything is pre-packaged and placed on the display fridge for easy choosing and grabbing. Payment counters are right next to the display fridges. Cold sandwiches and wraps can be heated upon request at the cashier desk. Quick and easy, no fuss and there goes your lunch.
Sets are available at Prêt à Manger, there are Breakfast, Lunch and Tea sets available which are all really good deals. Given the choice combination available on the Pret Lunch Set, I bet I can have Pret for lunch for a month without duplication. Check the pictures below for both breakfast and morning/ tea set menu.
Sesame Chicken Soba SaladI had the lunch combination of soba salad, a Chestnut Panna Cotta and a cup of coffee priced at HKD79 today. The colouful Soba Salad was in a good size with lots of fresh ingredients in it. Simply by comparing the colour of the salad leaves, Groves can never win over Prêt à Manger. (Just so you know if you did not read my review on Groves, their salad leaves are ALWAYS brown!) The salad leaves were crisp and icy. The soba although not al dente (which is impossible on a salad ), were still in good texture, not too soft. The chicken breasts were quite tender and flavoured with sesame seasoning. The halved half boiled egg was as usual fresh and bouncy. I am very contented with the salad topped with sesame dressing at side. Nothing to ask more from this.
Chestnut Panna CottaThe Chestnut Panna Cotta is a new item on the menu. The cup was layered with a layer of vanilla panna cotta with a chestnut in whole at the bottom, followed by a layer of spongy chocolate cake, a smooth and sweet chestnut cream and topped with bread crumbs. The cup was nice but not too panna cotta, tasted more like a chestnut mousse cake.
Freshly Brewed CoffeeThe freshly brewed coffee had a floral aroma with a smoothing and light body. It was a very easy coffee to drink.
There is also an rotating soup menu for weekday and a special Autumn Soup Menu available now until the week of 4th Nov. Can't wait for the Pea & Ham as well as the Brittany Fish Stew!
