I have seen lots of magazine interviews about this cake shop, and just happen to stumble upon the actual shop on my venture at Sheung Wan.Heard a great deal that the chef was originally from the famous Sevva, so decided to give it a try.Overall the shop was very bright, but the pastry case was smaller than I expected. My first impression was that it was way too small (but most higher end cakes are nowadays). And the design/apperance was very lacking.....not sure if the purple was natural color or added with food coloring.
However, the taste was actually very natural and good !
Outer layer I suppose is made with cooked purple yam, inside was 2 layer of sponge cake ( probably plain vanilla sponge).
and with some creme chantilly filling...and bottom was a piece of butter biscuit.
Could have finished the cake in 2 big bites, cause its so small....ordering their big size cake would be more money worth.
Anyhow, I think the chef did a great job with the cake taste wise~ would love to try more cakes next time. Hope he keeps up the quality!
