I really seldom go to Chinese restaurants but I was really highly recommended with this Chiu Chow restaurant in North Point. When we went there, I found that there are actually 2 restaurants next to each other and they are all under the same restaurant name. Just like any other Chiu Chow restaurant, the eatery has a good display of marinated meat on the window and you can come by for some take-away or dine-in! The pricing is very affordable! Some small dishes are even under $50! Oyster congee $
Oyster congee $48 small
Oyster congee is the signature dish in chiu chow restaurant I think they have nailed it. Apart from the oyster and rice, a lot of spring onion and dried fish can be found. A lot of chiu chow resto nowadays miss out on the dried fish so some kind of taste is missing but this place is on point!
Their oyster pancake is not the heavy potato starchy type, but it's more like crispy batter type. It's slightly crispy on the edges and moist on the inside.
Again, it's a bargain for the price and I would definitely order it again.
I am happy to see this dish but some people may get scared by it. The raw shellfish has been marinated in chili and raw garlic alcoholic sauce. The shellfish is juicy and flavourful. One of the best seafood to eat but people are always scared about it. The opener is also provided for you to open the shell and suck the juice and meat out of it.
We are lucky that we get to try this dish as it is one of the most traditional dessert to have enjoy. The taro pieces are cooked with sugar and the sugar dries out and become a coating to the root vegetables. It is very hard to prepare because it requires just the right heat and the doneness.
Lastly we have ordered a bowl of sweet soup because it's also very traditional and not easy to find. Some green beans have been cooked with halved ginkgo in sweet soup. The beans are soft and the ginkgo is a bit bittersweet. It's delicious but pretty sweet in taste so make sure that you drink a lot of water afterward.
