恆香冰室 (English name: Hang Heung Bakery Cafe) is a cha chaan teng. But not just any cha chaan teng. It's run by the famous local Chinese bakery Hang Heung. Makers of those popular Chinese pastries like wife cakes. Their front takeaway area has all the different wife cakes available. Some with fillings that not traditional.We came here for afternoon tea. We came here for afternoon tea. Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English and no 10% service charge. The afternoon tea sets offer the usual cha chaan teng items along with a few combinations not too common along with a choce to have their wife cakes.
I decided to have a fish burger with a salad ($45). The fish burger didn't look like the photo at all but I always find that rather normal. The salad was ok though a bit small. They also served with a side of mixed greens with sesame dressing that was far too salty. The burger bun was delicious though. Soft and buttery.
The cheese wasn't really melted. The egg was soft and fluffy. The fish was actually two small pieces placed together. Perfect cooked but a bit on the dripping oily side. It was also a bit too salty as well.
Boyfriend had a Roast Chicken Leg with French Toast ($42). A combination that isnt common. The chicken leg was moist and tender. Tasted a bit like the roast chicken you find at the roast meat places. The French toast was sweet and it was filled with peanut paste that didn't taste too peanutty at all. We think it was home made instead of from the jar? A side of greens with the salty sesame sauce was on the side.
It wasn't great but it wasn't as bad as we expected. Portions was fine and the service was ok. Not as bad as the other reviews said. The place is also packed. Perhaps next time try out the wife cakes tea set.
