Godbro XO and I had to meet up yesterday since I bought some baked goodies for godmom and I asked him to bring them home. Mr H said we could meet up with him at Check-In Taipei since he's been there a few times lately, and godbro and I haven't been and we like to check out new spots.Once you walk into the restaurant, there is a bar to the left and seating for about 30 on the right. Once you walk into the restaurant, there is a bar to the left and seating for about 30 on the right. We were told that if it gets really busy, patrons can dine at the bar as well. Check-In Taipei has a chic decor that blends into the Hollywood Road neighborhood. There are "framed drawings" on the wall, which are actually frames that were nailed on to the walls, painted over with wall paint, then various Taipei landmarks were drawn inside and on the frames.
I was a bit late getting to Central since I was stuck in traffic, so the boys have already started with their drinks. Once I got settled, I ordered a Jelly Jito for myself. I picked the passionfruit flavor since it was recommended by Shin, the manager and chief drinks officer!

While we were debating on what to order, Shin saw that we were interested in the Special Dinner Set for 2 but were having difficulty ordering since there were 3 of us, so he was very accommodating and said that he can make it a dinner set for 3.
The dinner set started with a starter plate which consisted of chicken waffle, crispy pork knuckle, and ping pong.

The pork knuckle crispy consisted of a velvety pork knuckle mixture on top of a crispy cracker. I liked the crispiness of the cracker but prefered the pork knuckle mixture to be a bit less greasy.
Ping Pong was my favorite amongst the three starters. It was a purple yam ball with a cheese and mochi filling. The purple yam ball had a crispy outside and the purple yam was smoothly-pureed and had a pleasant natural sweetness. The cheese was not overpowering and complemented the purple yam's sweetness and the mochi's chewiness.
Next came the hot appetizer plate, which consisted of House Special Calamari, Sweet & Sour Fish, and Pork Belly & Puree.

The sweet and sour fish was a fusion version of the Shanghainese "squirrel fish" but since they used barramundi, the fish didn't need the heavy batter. Without the heavy batter, the dish was less greasy than its more traditional version.
The House Special Calamari was made typhoon shelter style with with deep fried garlic and chili. The calamari was soft and not over-fried, so it wasn't chewy at all. The fluffy batter was well-seasoned with the garlic and chili.
For the main course, godbro XO chose the Ma-Po Tofu noodle, which I tried a little bit, and I ordered the Pork Belly Risotto.

After the flames were out, Shin told us to take a sip of the shot then a sip of the tea cocktail. The shot was very fruity and along with the tea cocktail it was like a fruit tea. We each had a piece of the pineapple, and it had a different kind of sweetness since it was burned with alcohol.
For the desserts, Mr H and I picked the Creme Brulee and XO the chocolate devil chose the Oreo Serradura.

Thanks to Mr H's recommendation, godbro XO and I had the chance to check out Check-In Taipei! Check-In Taipei has redefined the Taiwanese food scene in Hong Kong as they offer traditional Taiwanese food and drinks with an updated twist!
