We wanted to have Korean and found Kaya as we walked past Soundwill Plaza so went in to give it a try after having read a few positive reviews. It was just after 7pm and the place was not full and we were seated straight away. It was just after 7pm and the place was not full and we were seated straight away. We didn't go for the bbq so ordered a tofu stew, japchae and seafood pancake. Normally in Korean restaurants the side dishes will come straight away but we were not given any even though our tofu stew came. I had to ask the waiter who looked unsure for the side dishes. To my amazement when they came, could they really not afford to give us more than one roll of kimchi for two people to share??? The portions of the side dishes were embarrassing because after having lived in Seoul for a few months, I know this is not the way the portions of their side dishes are served. There was no blanched spinach as this was replaced by choi sum and the beansprouts were barely enough for one person. The seafood pancake was falling apart as soon as you picked it up. The japchae tasted like it was just fried and the beef shreds were dry and hard. All three dishes were around $170 each and the quality of each dish was mostly disappointing given the price range. It seems like the chefs do not care about the food they are cooking because those three dishes are so simple to make and they should taste good. It was really appalling so please do not trust the reviews before you try this place. I would say Myung Ga or Sorabol would be a safer choice. What a complete waste of money.
