After a day off exploring new areas, we stopped for dinner. I noticed a new Vietnamese place when I walked by this area after work and we decided to give it a try.西貢街頭越南牛肉粉 (English name: Pho Sai Gon Vietnam Ese Cuisine) is quite a long name. Located next to the Empire Building where there also a number of other restaurants, it was fairly large and spacious with a blue color scheme.Menu is in English, Vietnamese and Chinese with photos of all the food. 西貢街頭越南牛肉粉 (English name: Pho Sai Gon Vietnam Ese Cuisine) is quite a long name. Located next to the Empire Building where there also a number of other restaurants, it was fairly large and spacious with a blue color scheme.
Menu is in English, Vietnamese and Chinese with photos of all the food. In the evening they have no sets and not upgrades for drinks. Everything is a la carte. I'm unsure about lunch or afternoon tea time. I'll have to return one day if they offer sets during those time frames.
As it's a newly discovered Vietnamese place, I decide to try their pho. They had several to choose from and I chose Pho Thap Cam or Street Combo Pho ($75). This included raw beef, beef brisket and beef balls. You get a choice of noodle but we weren't asked as the waiter walked away. But that was fine as it was defaulted as rice noodles. The broth was rich and very beefy. It was actually really good, a sign of good pho. I didn't detect a heavy amount of MSG as well. The noodles were smooth. The beef was soft and tender. The beef brisket literally melted in my mouth it was that tender. And the balls were firm.
I ordered a mango smoothie ($42). It arrived with a sliced mango stuck to the side so you can eat it. Oddly, the mango wasn't very sweet nor flavorful. Probably not in season. The smoothie, however, had a strong mango taste and was very sweet. Obviously syrup was added to enhance the flavor.
Boyfriend had the Com Dua Xiem Thit Ko ($88). This was a pork belly braised in a young coconut. It also comes with a bowl of rice and a glass of coconut juice. This is probably the best deal ever. You get rice, main and a drink all for under $100. The coconut juice was fresh and sweet. The pork belly was delicious. Fat and juicy. The sauce was rich and savory. And afterwards, you can dig into the fresh coconut meat from the shell. Portion was a lot as well. The whole coconut was jam packed with meat.
Food was pretty delicious. The place was clean and service was fine. Will return again and see if they have any lunch or afternoon set deals.
