How good is the Modern China Restaurant? Well, we came to this Hollywood Plaza Branch 5 times during our 13 days visit in Hong Kong. (If it wasn't good then we wouldn't keep coming back)Food: We are Shanghai cuisine lovers and I believe this restaurant produces one of the best Shanghai foods in the world. My favorites were: Small Shanghai Steamed Dumplings $68, Pan-fried Pork Dumplings $52, Peking Dumplings $62, Deep Fried Spare Rib in Noodle Soup, Braised Spare Rib with Dark Vinegar $102, Pork

How good is the Modern China Restaurant? Well, we came to this Hollywood Plaza Branch 5 times during our 13 days visit in Hong Kong. (If it wasn't good then we wouldn't keep coming back)

Food: We are Shanghai cuisine lovers and I believe this restaurant produces one of the best Shanghai foods in the world.
My favorites were: Small Shanghai Steamed Dumplings $68, Pan-fried Pork Dumplings $52, Peking Dumplings $62, Deep Fried Spare Rib in Noodle Soup, Braised Spare Rib with Dark Vinegar $102, Pork with Beijing Style Sauce with Sesame Pastry $108 and Drunken Chicken £88. They were all deliciously yummy and well deserved the 5 stars ratings, i.e. all the meats were tender; the wrappings of the dumplings were thin but still managed to hold the hot and tasty soup inside; the spare rib had always deep dried perfectly and the noodle soup was extremely tasty; the Chinese wine with the cold steamed chicken was like the staircase from heaven...etc.
Other dishes that my family loved were such as Smoked Fish Noodle Soup $74 (2/5 stars), Tan Tan Noodle in (non-spicy) soup $48 (4/5 stars), Roasted Minced lamb with Sesame pastry (3/5 stars), shredded cucumber salad $52 (3/5 stars) and salt-cured ham $82 (1/5 star)...etc. They were not bad but I tasted something better elsewhere.

Service: Customer service was faultless. All staffs were helpful and super-polite (which is one of the features of customer service in Hong Kong). The restaurant was quite spacious but we were lucky as we often managed to sit at the tables by the wall (i.e. so that we could sit on the long sofa). Foods were served fast and the staffs' service was attentive.

Price: It's not cheap. On average it cost around $750 for 5 people and $450 for 2 people. The price was almost the same as in London. However, the staff told me that if I hold a Chinese Credit Card (forgot the name), then we could get 15% off during Mon-Thu. I noticed a lot of other customers used credit cards as their payment method.

Highly recommended if you love Shanghai Cusine!
Tips: 1)They have a number of other branches in Hong Kong, you can choose to visit other branches which are more convenient for you.
2) Always book a table in advance during the peak hours, or to start queuing at the door when the restaurant opens. (i.e. just before 6pm)
