I love a cute restaurant theme. It's what draws me to a lot of things. Food made into a cute form. Recently, I noticed a new restaurant that  was given quite a bit of mention in magazines and well ... even Openrice's own Facebook page. Located inside Maritime Square, it's  a medium size cafe. It is next to East Ocean Lafayette and I discovered they share the same kitchen. It appears this is East Ocean's restaurant group's foray into Western food.

Outside of the restaurant is a cake display with some pretty nice looking cakes that are available for take away or dine in.

As it was newly opened, they had a promotion where you get a 15% discount.

The menu was in English and Chinese. It seemed they included breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner sets all in one menu. So be sure to read carefully note the time slots that section of the menu is available.

This is the breakfast section of the menu.

The happy hour and dinner set section. As we were here during dinner session, we focused on this.

They had desserts which we could add $18 for one or half price for a parfait.

Upon ordering, we were given our bread. The bread was black from squid ink. It was a bit crispy and better for dipping into the soup.

The dinner sets came with a daily soup or salad. I had the soup as boyfriend (oddly enough) wanted the salad. The daily soup was a cream of tomato. It was not very strong in tomato taste but it was creamy enough.

Originally the salad was mine, but boyfriend saw they had bacon bits so he switched with me. The salad was ok. Crunchy salad greens. They used a sesame salad dressing.

Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Poached Egg and Beef Burger with Fries ($118).  The burger bun was blue as they had a marine theme. This was one very messy burger as they put  a poached egg in it so when you cut into it, the yolk just went every where. So, I ended up just soaking the yolk up with the bun and eating everything separately. The beef patty was cooked to a medium rare and was moist enough. I loved the pickled onions on top. The bacon was great as it was nearly crispy.  The fries were really quite good. Crispy and wonderfully seasoned. There was also a side of coleslaw that I would have preferred to be a bit more tart.

Grilled Truffle Mushroom and Bean Fench Fettuccine ($98). I'm not sure what bean fench is as that is what is written on the menu. But if it was French beans, I didn't see it.   The pasta sauce was a very creamy with strong truffle taste. Pasta was al dente. Loved the various different mushrooms used.

Garlic and Chili Calamari ($45). We ordered an item on the happy hour section as an appetizer. This came after our mains. This was probably the best thing I had all evening. It was spicy and bang full of flavor. The calamari was cooked perfectly.

Sky Blue ($20 with dinner set).   This was a dried butterfly pea to make the natural blue color in the drink. There was also red bean and milk. An otherwise fancy version of a red bean drink. The red beans were soft and sweet. The only problem is they gave me a narrow straw so I couldn't get any of the red bean. I wasn't given a spoon to scoop them out as well. So it all laid to waste.

Antarctica ($45). This is what boyfriend ordered. A big blue slurpee. It was grapefruit flavored and not sweet at all. There was a jelly of a shell place on top.

Starfish Waffle ($48). This was super cute. The waffles were shaped like crabs. Each was filled with a bit of lovely vanilla custard and cream. I also found some red bean inside as well. The waffles were soft with a nice crispy exterior. I loved it. There was a scoop of blueberry ice cream and more jelly shaped shells.

Black Pink Parfait ($34 with dinner set). The parfait was a lot bigger than we expected. We were shocked at how large it was. It was the size of my hand. So be forewarned. A shareable dessert. The parfait was made up of strawberries, whipped cream,  strawberry ice cream, strawberry ice and cornflakes. The strawberries were sweet and the cream was rich. Loved the crunch of the cornflakes. But as  we didn't anticipate it was going to be this big, we couldn't finish it.

A cutely themed restaurant that does stick to the marine theme. As it's new, food doesn't come out very quickly. We were also told not to order drinks until later but then they didn't give us any water in the mean time. I noticed no one else had glasses of water either. Food was fine with a special mention on the calamari and the waffles. A nice dining option if ever I'm in Tsing Yi.
