I've heard a lot about Foxglove. It housed a hidden bar within a bar. A speakeasy serving a beautiful retro theme. On the outside, it looks like a shop selling expensive umbrellas. Thus, much to boyfriend and my surprise when we walked by the place there was a sign stating they now serve dim sum. The interior was very chic. It looked straight out of a James Bond movie.
There was a bar on one end.
And the washroom looked like a ship.
Menu is in English and Chinese. They have a selection of tea which is $25 per person. We went with the Iron Buddha Oolong.
They also have a happy hour drinks menu. I assume this was brought forward earlier than normal as dining now closes at 6.
We ordered some dim sum.
Prawn Toast with Sweet Chili Sauce ($60). Super thin pieces of toast with a thin spread of firm but fresh shrimp meat. There was a some crispy bread crumbs on top as well. Perfectly seasoned and not overly oily. There was a Thai style chili sauce for dipping.
Cheeseburger Spring Roll ($70). This was my favorite! Delicious minched beef with layers of cheese in a crispy spring roll wrapper. All this was dipped in a siracha ketcup giving it a sweet, sour and spicy touch.
Lobster and Minced Pork Siu Mai ($50). Adding a steamed item was this. The lobster was an interesting change from the usual shrimp, thus giving it a more subtle taste. There was some grated citrus on top to give it freshness.
Angus Beef Puff ($60). This was also a favorite. Like the usual daikon puffs but better as they were stuffed with beef.
The crust was flakey and soft. The filling was savory.
Three Little Birdies ($65). We ended with dessert. This was pineapple cakes with coconut ice cream. They looked adorable. The pineapple cakes were nicely filled with a lightly sweet filling. The coconut ice cream was hand made and helped make the pineapple cakes less dry.
While we were having dessert, boyfriend ordered a drink. Have the Bees ($80) is their twist on the classic Old Fashioned. The drink was pretty strong but you can still taste the fresh orange added. Loved the orange peel as a garnish.
The food was not only beautifully plated but tasted delicious. Service was impeccable and friendly. The decor was stylish. And the drink at the end? Fantastic. Would definitely return especially for a drink and a few light bites.
