The Chinese Restaurant is an upscale Cantonese dining venue located at the Hyatt Regency (just above K11 shopping mall) in Tsim Sha Tsui. I visited during a weekday to taste their “Dim Sum Set Menu,” which is available daily from 12.30-2.30pm. On offer were traditional dishes like “char siu bao” (i.e. steamed barbecued pork buns), as well as modern takes on classics, like the fried glutinous dumpling with pork and foie gras. Admittedly, I was at first a little skeptical at the fusion variations of my favourite classics, but was very pleasantly surprised with the outcome. Each dish was freshly prepared and served piping hot, which were great bonuses.
The ambiance and setting were equally delightful. The entire restaurant had around ten tables, which created a cozy atmosphere that wasn’t overwhelmingly loud. I’m used to busy dim sum restaurants in HK where one would need to yell across the table to communicate.
I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a little bit on the pricey side for just dim sum at $308 per head (+10% service charge), but given the quality of food, level of service and overall ambiance, I think it is a nice treat we can all allow ourselves once in a while. ;)
