There is this Chiu Chow restaurant near my place. I decided to take a break from the usual Western food to try this Chiu Chow eatery. There is a vast range of choices from simple fishball noodles, beef brisket rice,curry to marinated goose slices and Chiu Chow cold crab.There is a small platter of appetisers before the ordered items including some preserved vegetables, peanuts and baby clams. They were really good to go with rice or congee.We had the soup which was boiled with some kind of beans

We had the soup which was boiled with some kind of beans and bitter melon. The soup tasted fresh and soothing. It wasn't too salty which might be the opposite for some Chinese restaurants. The bitter melon is said to be good for the hot summer.
The marinated goose slices is a famous dish in Chiu Chow cuisine so how can we not order this. The goose slices were evenly cut and looked appetising with the shiny meat. The meat tasted fresh and tender while the soya bean sauce was rich. It was stated on the menu that no MSG was added to the sauce. The tofu that was beneath the goose slices also tasted fresh and smooth.
We ordered the dry noodles with fried fish cake. The fish cake had quite a rich fish flavour. The noodles eaten together with the shrimp roe was such a simple yet satisfying dish.
