Everyone knows about Genki Sushi. And everyone must have dined at a Genki Sushi some time in their life time. Genki Sushi, known around Hong Kong as an inexpensive rotating sushi bar. You see plates of sushi go around and around in a circle. You see a plate you like, you take it down. After you finish eating, a staff member tallies it up and you pay at the cashier. The sushi isn't very good. It generally  never is. But it's cheap and fast.

However, this branch of Genki Sushi is a bit different. It has been revamped into something else. Instead of sushi plates rotating in a circle, your sushi is shipped to you ... on a train.

The entire restaurant has been changed. Instead of a central rotating sushi  bar, you get rows upon rows of seats with three tracks infront of you. There is a tablet device located over head.

The tablet is used for ordering what you want. It can be brought down for easiser access but must be placed back to it's dock after a while or the device will remind you. Menu is in English and Chinese with photos of everything served. There were some items that were not found in other Genki Sushi branched, however there were also some items that other branches had but this one didn't.

Ordering is simple. You scroll through what you want and press to select. You then can imput the quantity. The only limitation is that only four items can be ordered at one time.

When your order is ready, a train that is designed to look like one of the Japanese speed bullet trains comes zipping out. It actually travels pretty fast. But not to worry about the train passing your seat. With absolute precision, it stops right in front of you. You take your plates down and there is a yellow button next to it. Press it and the train will zip back to the kitchen.

A few items we ordered.

Flying fish roe.  A good amount of flying fish roe was added. The nori was crispy and the flying fish roe was also pop-tastic.

Seared flounder. This was ok. Buttery in texture.

Seared Shrimp. This was ok as well. The shrimp had a coating of something that tasted like mayo.

Wasabi Octopus. Not enough wasabi to make me happy.

Hoikkaido Surf Clam Salad Warship. I think they ran out of surf clam because I didn't have any in this. All I got was just salad dressing and artificial crab meat.

Tempure Shrimp Roll. I liked this. The shrimp was crispy and it was still hot. Definitely fresh from the fryer.

All in all, a fun experience. I noticed a lot of people were here to take photos of the sushi trains. Sushi was actually better tasting than the other Genki Sushi places, probably due to the fact everything was made to order. Also, due to it being made to order, it took a long time for food to arrive. But it was a lot of fun and revitalized the fun of a rotating sushi bar. I would return again if I was in the area. Alas, I live too far so I hope they start renovating the other branches so I don't have to travel so far!
