I received a $388 birthday coupon from Regal (one of the perks of being a Regal card member) and Vi was one of the two restaurants I could use the coupon. I've never eaten there before but since I like Thai food I thought I might give this place a try. I invited 2 friends to join in the celebration and we headed to Vi for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We got to Vi around 12.30pm and the place was virtually empty. We got to Vi around 12.30pm and the place was virtually empty. The waiter who greeted us was extremely polite. We asked for a table by the window and he said we could pick any tables we wanted! He showed us the menu and explained to us we could order the set lunch and/or a la cart. The set lunches were very reasonably priced. They have 3 to 4 set lunches to choose from, and the most expensive set lunch was only $75. Each set lunch included soup of the day, an appertizer (satay and fish cake), a main course and dessert. We chose 3 different set lunches: stir fry ho fan with seafood, a green curry and a red curry. We also ordered 2 a la cart dishes: stir fry mushrooms and sweet and sour fish.
Soup of the day: clear broth with pork, tufu and chinese celery. Very light. Very good.
Appertizer: satay ok; fish cake nice.
Main course: the stir fry ho fan was not too oily, just the way I like it. The curries were very good. The green curry in particular was very fragrant. You could choose either bread or rice to go with the curry. We chose rice.
Dessert: Thai style dessert - nice.
A la cart
stir fry mushrooms: we regreted ordering this dish mainly because they use canned mushrooms rather than fresh mushroom. Despite this the dish was very tasty.
Sweet and sour fish: we liked this very much. Fish was fresh.
We also shared a house wine to go with the meal. The bill was $430 tax inclusive but since we had the birthday coupon the final bill was a little bit over $50 total. What a bargin!
The only thing that would deter me from dining here again is the walk to the restaurant from Shatin Station. It takes about 15-20 mins and it didn't help that we dined there on a particular wet day. Otherwise, the meal was very enjoyable.
