Boyfriend and I were in Tai Kok Tsui as I wanted to buy something nearby. Thinking what to have for dinner, it started to rain so heavily, we couldn't go elsewhere! It was at this moment, we just decided to duck into the restaurant we were standing in front of that and that was Homeland. The place was colorfully decorated. It seemed like a sweet cafe. Browsing the menu, something odd caught my eye. Popping Candy Rose Lychee Soda ($36). It had some popping candy on top and I heard some crackling sounds. It also came with a package of popping candy for you to add more. I did! And wow ... it literally exploded all over! So be prepared to get popping candy all over you. It was a fun drink. Not too sweet with juicy lychee on the bottom.
For the appetizer, we ordered Fried Chinese Noodlefish with Yuzu Vinegar ($88). The vinegar was for dipping the crispy littefish.
Slow Cooked Braised Ox Cheeks in Red Wine Sauce ($138) was not only pretty to look at, but it was so good! The cheeks were so tender, you almost didn't need to chew. It was on a bed of mashed potato to make it feel more filling. The red wine saue was drizzled around it and I wish there was more.
Baked Four Cheese Spaghetti Bolognese ($98) was a surprise as it had four meatballs in it. The menu didn't say meatballs so not expected at all. They were nice meatballs. Not as fluffy and soft like the Italian versions but quite good. The sauce was rich and beefy with decent amount of cheese.
Service was nice and helpful especially after we were a bit wet from the rain. Food was nicely presented and tasted quite fine.
