We came because it was my father’s birthday and ordered their Birthday Reward Set Menu as it was buy 4 and 1 would be free of charge. It is $488 per person not yet including 10%. We were seated at The Lobby, which is where this offer is held at and it is quite literally the lobby of the hotel. Right next to the main door 😂😅. The ‘restaurant’ was separated into 2 halves with the walkway to the staircase as a divider. The layout of the tables are very well designed as there is meters of space between each table so there was barely any loud noises.

There was also a live singer singing from the upper balcony backed up by a small band which was really comforting and aided the fine-dining experience here.

This offer was very appealing as it was a 3 course dinner at THE Peninsula so we had high expectations for the location and the food. For starter I ordered the Leek and Potato Soup, Poached Quail Egg, Crispy Leek. For main I ordered the Golden Redfish, Octopus, Chorizo, Chickpea Casserole. You could also choose a seafood platter, salmon or beef fillet but you have to pay an additional charge 🙂. And for dessert I ordered the Coconut Panna Cotta, Mango Cream, Almond Crumble, Fresh Fruit Selection.

A few moments after we placed our orders, the staff came with our bread baskets and it was 1 basket between 2 people. The selection of bread included a white bread roll, multigrain bread roll and a malt vinegar bread slice (I think), 2 per piece so both parties can try one of each. The size of each bread is also reasonably enough but only if you have soup to each it with as their other starters don’t match well with bread.

The bread rolls itself was warm when arrived but due to the high ventilation and air conditioner, it got cold real and hard fast but if you ask the staff to reheat it, they would give you a whole new basket of warm bread. It is also served with butter that is not softened but you can just place the knife on top of the candle to warm it before slicing the butter 😝.

Leek and Potato Soup, Poached Quail Egg, Crispy Leek.

The soup is extremely smooth and creamy but not at all heavy. The texture is thin but velvety. The leek flavor does not really show in the soup but you get this wonderful taste of rich potato creaminess.

The crispy leek on top introduces this wonderful aroma and texture to the soup. The scent is truly captivating and brings the leek in the dish. The pair of leek and potato also worked surprisingly well as the leek has a certain spice to it whilst the potato is mild and starchy.

The quail egg could not be compared to the soup as it was not poached well and the yolk and white separated. But the yolk was still creamy at least. This egg could be considered incongruous to the dish.

This soup was perfect with their bread selection. The soup was thin and creamy enough to cling onto the bread grains and eating it together was just amazing.

The portion of the soup is relatively small, 4/6 filled in a small bowl. I had extra bread after finishing my soup.

Golden Redfish, Octopus, Chorizo, Chickpea Casserole

The redfish was a bit overdone as it was not as flaky as it should have been, which can be hard for a white fish as it does not have any fish oil in its meat. However, it is still soft and fluffy. The fish was also quite thin (3.7 cm) which is why I believe they crusted the top with some grains to act as protection to not overcook it and add another layer of crunch.

The octopus was extremely tender and flavorful, very easily sliced so you can enjoy more pieces. The octopus also matched well with the chickpea casserole sauce. There was 3 pieces of tentacles and all where average sized.

The chorizo was very hard to spot as it was diced into tiny pieces. The flavor was mild with a hint of spice and it matched well with my leftover bread 😂. There was also quite a lot as it was all small.

The chickpea casserole was also delicious, there was 3 pieces of zucchini as well. However, there was not enough sauce and the sauce that was there was very thick so hard to cling onto the chickpea and fish.

Overall, this dish was good as the components in it was delicious on their own but it was hard to eat it all together so I had to eat it one piece at a time. The casserole sauce matched well with the fish but there was not enough and too thick so the fish was a bit dry.

Coconut Panna Cotta, Mango Cream, Almond Crumble, Fresh Fruit Selection

This dessert was magnificent. The presentation itself was magical and reminded me of a fairy tale. And the Peninsula chocolate logo on it was also beautiful.

The coconut taste is very very strong and flavorful, and it matched incredibly well with the creamy panna cotta. The texture was quite thick but extremely smooth and velvety. The amount of panna cotta was massive, don’t let the look fool you as it is packed to the bottom of the sphere and one spoonful is 5 bites.

The Mango Cream was much like the panna cotta but thinner and lighter. It gave an exotic contrast to the creamy coconut. There was also a lot of mango cream around the

The Almond Crumble was crunchy and delicious, it was absolutely amazing with the creamy panna cotta as it was crunchy and caramelized. Sadly, there was not enough crumble for all of the panna cotta which could be a blessing as it was very filling. Also, my mother ordered this as well and noticed she didn’t have any almond crumble on her one but she already finished 3/4 of it, but still told the staff to ask if it was a mistake and they gave her a whole completed new panna cotta 😱, this shocked all of us and we were impressed and confused as they could spare one of these expensive desserts.

The Fresh Fruit Selection included some strawberries, raspberries, açaí berries and mango. The amount was very little compared to the panna cotta but eating it together was delicious as the fruit was acidic and sweet and the panna cotta was creamy and thick. There was also 2 pieces of shaved coconut that was crispy and chewy.

Overall, this dessert was an amazing way to end this meal, the coconut flavor was truly intense and delicious so if you are not a fan of coconut, you would not enjoy this. But if you do like coconut or is impartial, then you would absolutely love the creamy and smooth panna cotta. The portion is also very generous so please enjoy it slowly.

The complimentary cake was also delicious but I was extremely full after I finished the Panna Cotta so I only ate half of my slice. The cake was a Coconut slice with a key lime coulis (this is based on what I tasted as they do not tell you). The components were a thick layer of coconut Crème, a key lime coulis and then a short crust pastry on the bottom. They also held cut the cake as well after you take a photo with it.

The Coconut Crème meringue was light and creamy but very thick. Coconut taste was also very strong and intense.

The key lime coulis was sweet with only a hint of acid so it was a bit too sweet.

The short crust pastry at the bottom was flaky and buttery. Very delicious and creamy as well.

This slice was good for a complimentary dessert but way too creamy and sweet, also it was hard to finish it as we just had a very filling 3 course meal that ended on a creamy and massive dessert.

To conclude, I highly recommend this offer for families of 4, or even colleagues or friends who are looking for ways to celebrate their birthday. The food is just amazing and the environment is extremely high class and luxurious. The service is just as amazing as the environment as the staff is friendly and attentive and always try to satisfy you. We came here at 7pm and left at 10pm 😬, there was no rush whatsoever and we got to enjoy the live music throughout the meal.
