Had lunch alone in Central. There were many people in Manadarin cake shop so I went here for lunch.Had a cheese and ham sandwiches $43. There were four large cream cheese. The hand-cut ham was very thick too. The bread was warm and crispy. A perfect combination of bread, ham and cheese.Also had a ginger risotto $35. Just like drinking chinese dessert "ginger milk". Didn't feel any taste of coffee. very delicous too.Bought two pieces of cake ($34 each) for tea time and one croissant ($12)

The chestnut cake had a layer of passionfruit. It is very delicous together iwth the rich chestnut. the chocalte in the tart is very rich and delicious too. I love both of them.

The muffin was very veyr expensive. If i knew it cost $32, i will not buy it. There were quite many chocoalte but don't worth for that. the crossant and muffin tasted good after reheating in the next monring.

A recent restaurant survey ranked L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Hong Kong higher than the one in New York, and better than the Robuchon in Tokyo. I for one strongly disagreed with the standing. A recent restaurant survey ranked L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon in Hong Kong higher than the one in New York, and better than the Robuchon in Tokyo. I for one strongly disagreed with the standing. Among the 15+ times I visited L’Atelier in NYC, the food and service was consistently great there. On the other had, my 3 Robuchon’s visits in Hong Kong varied from great, good, to ok food but really poor service. While L’Atelier in Hong Kong no longer aroused my interest, the salon, on the other hand, intrigued me somewhat because there wasn’t any Robuchon’s bakery in Manhattan. After seeing the extremely alluring pictures of the afternoon tea in 食鬼0’s review, I decided to pay a few visits and see if Cafe- Le Salon De The & La Boutique could excite my palate.

Just a preface: The reasons that I found Robuchon’s food appealing were the perfection in technique, the attention to details, and the artistically divine presentations. I was always amazed on how he came up with such aesthetic illustration of food which became almost too pretty to eat. Even more compelling was the precision in presentation no matter where and what you order at a Robuchon’s restaurant. For instance, the many times that I ordered L'oursin (Sea Urchin in Lobster Gelée, Topped with a Cauliflower Cream) or L'anguille (Smoked Foie Gras Layered with Caramelised Eel), they came out exactly the same each time, and appeared virtually identical to KC’s and 惡男's versions in Hong Kong.

Therefore, when I had the afternoon tea set for two at the salon, I wasn’t at all surprised when the food presented was a photocopy version of 食鬼0’s. Each of the savory finger sandwiches, including Lobster Sandwich flavored with Tarragon, Tuna with Fresh Mache Pave, Premium Ham with Mustard Seeds, and Norwegian Smoked Salmon with Caviar, was meticulously constructed and plated. The set of natural and fruit scones, with Devonshire clotted cream and home-made raspberry and strawberry jam, was also artfully presented. The tiny pieces of lavender, the red current berries, and the silvers of dried fruit peels exemplified Robuchon’s thoughtfulness to details. While the food tasted fine and the ingredients were fresh, there weren’t any excitements or sparks that could be derived from these two sets. I fairly enjoyed the premium ham sandwich which was made with (I believe) jambon de Paris with the chives and lavender adding a tinge of herbal and floral complexity. The other three were rather ordinary with the simple flavors of the fresh salmon, the finely minced lobster bits, and the olives taking the center stage, lacking further depths in flavors. The scones were also quite boring, though the jam was enjoyable with some floral aroma possibly from rose essence. The caramel latte and jasmine tea that we had were simple and pleasant, just the right companions for the various savory and sweet bites.

While the flavors of the first two sets of food didn’t leave us with strong impressions, the second set of pastries fared a lot better. Like most Robuchon’s creations, the stunning presentation made one want to pause for a moment to appreciate the exquisiteness of these treats. I am not a sweet tooth, but all five of the pastries turned out to be delicate and delectable. The luscious Mont-Blanc was a combination of velvety ribbons of chestnut cream, white chocolate cigars, and a refreshing citrus-y center; The Macaron Ganache was a winner as well, with the mini praline macarons tasting extremely fresh and providing a great textural variation. The Paris-Brest, while not a favorite of us, would be a pleasure to chocolate and nut lovers with the almond-topped choux pastry filled chocolate cream and candied walnuts. The passionfruit custard was a great foil to the creamy white chocolate in the Exotique, stimulating the taste buds in every bite. The Blueberry Cheesecake, on a contrast, became rather pedestrian and forgettable. That said, I really appreciated the balance of different flavors (e.g. citrus, floral and chocolate) and textures in these pastries so that none of them were overly sweet or too one-dimensional.

The petit fours consisted of a very moist piece of lemon cake, a chocolate nut crunch, and two fruit jellies. A nice finish to a satisfying dessert set in the end.

On subsequent visits, I also tried the foie gras with mango sandwich which was probably my least favorite of all the special sandwiches there. The savory quiches lacked the creamy texture that I was looking for, though up to this point I still haven’t found a good quiche in Hong Kong. Fortunately, plenty of goodness made up for the bad experiences. I don’t have to rave about the most praised croissants, but to me the baguettes, brioches, and country bread are even more impressive and probably as close as you can get to the European artisanal bread and pastries overseas. I also enjoyed the cold sandwiches a lot, particularly the one made with baguette and brie as the all the ingredients were of high quality, and the sandwiches were served at the right temperature.

I was actually quite impressed by the macarons after trying out all the flavors. While they weren't the best in town texture-wise, the freshness of the macarons were very profound (a key factor to great macarons) and the subtle sweetness left me wanting more and more, especially my favorite flavors praline and caramel.

Service was very weak, I must say. My visits were often filled with numerous delays in responding to requests and unfamiliarity to the food presented. I understood that this was only the Salon and not the L’Atelier upstairs, but when you have Robuchon’s name attached to your establishment, this kind of service just didn’t cut it.

Overall, my indictment was that the food at La Salon is perfectly executed and brilliantly constructed and the style and presentation was very much L’Atelier. But the flavor, while great, didn’t remind me of Robuchon. Nothing I ate made me feel revelatory or ethereal. At the end of each meal I felt like I was only getting 50% of Robuchon, namely, the artistry, with the other half of the equation, the flavor, lost in translation. I will still recommend the salon for great pastries, desserts, and bread. But if you really want to have a Robuchon’s experience, please go upstairs to L’Atelier, where you can at least “taste” his greatness.

):
I noticed that a lot of people (even food magazines) have macarons and macaroons mixed up. Macarons are traditional sandwich-like French pastries made with two thin cookies and a cream or ganache between the cookies. Macaroons, on the other hand, are sweet concoctions made either with coconut and egg white or with a coarse almond paste formed into a dense cookie or confection. You can see the picture above for reference. Although in England French macarons are sometimes spelled “macaroons”, it isn’t technically accurate unless you specify “French Macaroons”. In the US, they are not interchangeable! Just thought I will share.

其實入到去置地, 真係好似鄉下佬出城咁.去到d 高級餐廳但自己衣著一般, 都有點慚愧但得知置地哩間鋪頭好出名食牛角包昨日專程與友人點都黎試下搵左一陣先搵到間野. 7點幾冇乜人. 可能係假期掛問佢幾錢, $12 一個, 我覺得算平啦.食過後簡直覺得值回票價!!外層硬得黎又鬆脆, 外脆內軟既感覺, 即使凍左依然存在味道更加厲害, 聞到牛油既香味, 亦食到牛油味而且內層仲有d 麵包既甜味我從來都冇深究過麵包. 哩個牛角包真係食得出有過人之處!!!

人累了,似乎除了休息外,能即時見效的就是甜,除太陽餅、人形餅等Junk Food外,公司常備大量的糖分以便不時之需。大戰之深宵,圖文並茂的精彩內容,看得眼冒金星,沒有比此刻更需要甜的了;遠遠看到同事拿出一盒三星餅盒,放下手頭上工作,看看內裡會是怎個驚喜。廬布松的紅黑小盒子用小繩子紮著,打開,是五色繽紛的Macaron,約20克左右的精緻法式杏仁餅,以廷實膠盒盛著,是名店應有而用心的包裝。綠色的杏仁餅,外層薄脆,內類微微濕潤的還有自製的果醬,帶薄薄杏香,味道不太甜,似乎是為了迎合本地口味吧?味道是用心的,但不夠甜,以砂糖餅子來說,可以更甜。

Had their tea set for 2 the other day which consisted of 4 finger sandwiches, 4 scones, and 6 cakes! Might be a bit too much cake for 2 people (am personally more of a savoury person than sweet) but for 3 people this set is perfect. *Notice how there are 3 salmon flowers & 3 macarons on one of the cakes! Things in the set are in fact more easily shared equally between 3 people than 2 (perhaps apart from the 4 scones - but when there's so much cake, 1 scone each is enough anyway) So we were fi

Might be a bit too much cake for 2 people (am personally more of a savoury person than sweet) but for 3 people this set is perfect.

So we were first served lobster, tuna, turkey & salmon finger sandwiches. As you may see from the photos, all of them were beautifully presented. Tastewise they were probably about as good as finger sandwiches can get. The scones (raisin & plain) arrived soon after with some nice strawberry jam & clotted cream.
Next came the CAKES which looked just as impressive (if not more) than the sandwiches. The chocolatey cakes were well-balanced by the fruity ones which made the overall "cake experience" not too rich & heavy.
A week later I came back for the same tea set and noticed that everything remained the same except the passionfruit flavoured macarons were replaced by chocolate ones

老遠走到這裡, 全因它的牛角包, 情緒開始不穩, 於是約了朋友傾談一下, 舒緩一下! 港鐵站人來人往, 男士西裝筆會, 女士儀態萬千, 最佩服的是穿起三吋高跟鞋, 走路不會比人慢!餐廳人不多, 我們要了牛角包, 朱古力酥, 綠茶及咖啡, $110! 牛角包個子不大, 非常酥鬆, 薄薄的酥皮層, 刀子切下散開了, 另一個朱古力漿味濃, 不太甜, 二者皆不錯! 我的綠茶(包)一般, 茶壺非常重, 友人的咖啡反而不錯! 臨走買了個提子合桃包, $28, 稍為烘了一會兒, 密度頗高, 提子合桃量不特別多, 相比 simplylife...這個較實, 價錢略貴, simplylife 較好吃! 梳化椅子幾舒服, 座位後是玻璃廚房, 隔著窗子看到廚師不斷處理蛋糕麵包, 非常吸引!

Mont Blanc意為白色的山,實為栗子撻,名字起得不差,賣相也很相似.栗子蓉堆砌成一個小山丘,內裏還鋪了一層忌簾,令口感更為嫩滑.餅底不是普通的撻,裏面還有一小層cranberry cake,味覺上多了份層次感,而視覺上亦更加精采.

這裏的Coffee用上blue mountain,卻也只售$35,比pokka還更便宜.

我點的Caramel Latte,caramel不濃烈,有點喝不出的感覺.Latte的奶比例也不高和普通咖啡味道無異.

小店地方較小,weekend時可能人會有點擠. 服務不錯,店員也會細心介紹食物.悠閒地度過了舒適的2小時,心情更加開懷.

I ordered lady grey tea while my friend got a cupt of coffee. we started with the savory stuff. there were four mini-sandwiches. One had Norwegian Salmon on it, which was pretty nice. I'm not a fan of olives, but I still find this sandwich tasty =) the sandwich at the very back of my photo was the best out of the four. There was a slight touch with spices on it and it made the sandwich pretty refreshing. the greenish sandwich was fine with a soft texture.

then we moved on to the scones. they were served with clotted cream and strawberry jam. there were strawberry dices in the jam and i just LOVED it
the scones were of mini sizes too. the rectangular ones were raisin scones and the round ones were lemon-flavored (i think i saw 'lemon' on the menu) but it tasted just like any plain scones.

after we're done, the waiter collected the dishes and brought us the most anticipated part of our tea - pastries. they were so nicely set up. We had the almond chocolate first. it was good, but would be better if there were less almonds. and we have a lemon-mousse thingy with mixed berries on top, i would say it was as good as Robuchon's lemon tart, except that it was a bit more creamy. and we had a hazelnut cake, which was lovely also. blueberry cheesecake was like any normal blueberry cheesecake. there was one cake that looked like chestnut cake, but it actually tasted like passionfruit/ grapefruit cake. I liked the taste, because it gave us a totally different flavor other than desserts that had chocolate ingredients. and we had the three mini-macarons. this time they gave us hazelbut macarons (i saw a couple at another table were having greenish macarons which might be pistachio macarons). it was GREAT! with a strong taste of hazelnut
we only had a bite of the plain cake in the end, it was good too, but we were too full to finish everything up.

it was a fine experience overall. From how the waiters served, you could see that they were quite well-trained =). I would definitely return for tea again =)

I don't think there is anything here that I haven't had already - sometimes I even sacrifice my lunch 'tummy' space just to down some tarts or noisettes or cakes or croissants.The prices here are extremely affordable vs the quite high quality, even down to the Macarons which have the perfect crunchy exterior texture with moist internals, plus fillings which actually taste like the fillings.The only gripe I have is that the Croissants here (which I've had too many of them) aren't consistent. The prices here are extremely affordable vs the quite high quality, even down to the Macarons which have the perfect crunchy exterior texture with moist internals, plus fillings which actually taste like the fillings.

The only gripe I have is that the Croissants here (which I've had too many of them) aren't consistent. Sometimes there is hardly any buttery taste, sometimes they're under baked and too soft. If you eat in instead of takeaway- they usually heat it up for you and its nice and crispy, although a bit too flaky and messy to eat. I think I prefer the croissants over at Kool Deli on the Kowloon side in Shangri la a tad better, as they're not too flaky and has stronger butter taste.

The coffees here meanwhile have a great blend - the baristas aren't usually too bad, especially a young guy working there, but they're not doing justice to the coffee blend on the espresso machine, sometimes pouring it too fast or making it have a bitter aftertaste. Milk texturing is also slightly too bubbly.

I love the salted caramel tarts here as well as everything else, even though they're nowhere near as good as the ones in the Tokyo Ebisu's branch in terms of variety.

今次挑選了店外的座位,感覺很好。不單止可以看見廣場中間的景色,而且沒有waiters在身邊走來走去,可以與朋友盡情地傾談。點了white chocolate passion fruit cake+latte上次一來試了cap.今次試latte,兩者同樣高水準,比例準確,咖啡味奶味平衡;質感可能比其他地方的latte輕身一點,但豆味奶味絕對香濃。white chocolate passion fruit cake做得出色,個人來說是這裡所有蛋糕之中最喜歡的。自己其實有點怕吃白朱古力蛋糕,因為難免會有種膩的感覺。但這件蛋糕就算只吃表層部份也不覺得有膩的感覺。質感輕巧軟滑,但白朱古力味細緻而且具說服力,與中間的熱情果一起吃,結合起來的味道變得更加有趣和複雜,互相生色不少;白朱力的甜味令到帶酸的熱情果更加平易近人。薄薄餅底亦能發揮其功效,令到舌頭在有點迷幻的味道和質感底下站穩了腳。而兩者結合原來是意想不到地配合。latte的奶味和white chocolate的甜味互相呼應提升。passion fruit的酸味增強了咖啡的果香,而且令到入口份外nutty.尾段烘焙味道亦因此變得更為甘香。咖啡的

入口十分輕盈,但卻擁有十分豐厚的朱古香和細滑潤澤的油脂感,像有一種無形無量的張力,多喝幾多也不覺得膩。

This has once been my favorite patisserie in town.Visited it again on a sunny afternoon, after long hours of overnight working. Picked my favorite almond croissant and a cup of latte. The staff was as friendly as ever and they kindly warmed my croissant prior to serving.But problem arise when i bit into the petit pastry. Oh my god! The crispy pastry was replaced by a hard rigid dough. And the coffee was way too bitter this time. Too much coffee and too little milk i guess. Not only food quality

牛角包烘熱後就端上來~簡簡單單孤單一個的牛角包放在純白的碟上卻不顯得單調乏味~皆因其金黃帶亮的酥皮已經在散發光芒~沒有太多機會用刀叉去好好享受一個簡單的牛角包~但這裡的就只有這種細味的方法才是正路~~橫切一刀看到內裡鬆化的千層結構~就是吃下去令人陶醉的最好証據~無須多說話~靜聽切開咬開的鬆化脆聲還有不油不乾的酥皮夾層在口裡的溶化~別說$12~就算$22也值得~

愛焦糖愛得發瘋的大小比~就點上了caramel latte和清淡的camomile tea~前者劃上葉子圖案~這都不重要~精髓是在焦糖漿的香氣配起濃滑的牛奶和咖啡~三者無形中就取到了平衡的地方~~甘菊茶用大大壺奉上~真有份量~但似乎這一環相對其他產物就略遜一點~就算浸泡過後也喝不到太多的清香味

打從前次試過這裡的名物~也想試試這裡的包點~就找天來買點做早點~單是法包類也有原味~全麥~粟米~煙肉等等~但價錢也繼續親民~見到有手掌大小的尖尖法包~就心意已決~另外也要了個左右排開的煙肉小法包~十個興奮地離開店後就開袋一看~~竟然變左3個包包~多了一小個圓形的啊~~理應不是不小心和記錯而放下的~因為每個麵包都是店員慢慢的夾進紙袋~~哈哈~就當了送的了吧~~三小個都是同一麵糰底~但卻展現出三種不的的風格~個人還是偏好又尖又脆的感覺~~計起來只是二十個大洋~個人覺得比起在不少高檔麵包店還要抵啊!

媽媽鐘意食牛角包,趁今日一齊响中環食晚飯,買兩個試下先。我覺得牛角包係做得比一般餅店好味,例如皮脆、內軟、有牛油香味等。但呢種質素絕非香港無,以前晌某大日本百貨公司裡頭既麵包店都可以揾到,當時價錢都係幾蚊雞。當出外旅行食早餐,某d大酒店都可以同樣做到,所以我話佢唔係令我好食到 "嘩" 一聲,您地又不防試下再自我評分。不過我無試到佢其他出品,有待下次啦!
