The cart noodle ... fairly enjoyable for giving you a variety of choices to choose from all in a bowl of noodles. There are many such shops throughout Hong Kong. One is 榮記粉麵 (English name: Wing Kee Noodle). It's been here for a long time and has two locations in Causeway Bay. I honestly never ate here before and boyfriend couldn't recall why he never returned. So, we went in for quick bit.The place is very tiny and cramped. Menu is in Chinese with English upon request. The place is very tiny and cramped. Menu is in Chinese with English upon request. There is no 10% service charge. Like many cart noodle places, you choose a noodle type and how many toppings you want for a certain price. We chose noodles plus two toppings for $38. Pretty cheap!
I had the traditional fish bean curd and squid balls for my toppings. The soup for all their cart noodles is topped with beef brisket sauce. It was so salty and laced with MSG, my mouth almost cried in pain. I couldn't taste anything afterwards. The noodles were soggy. The squid balls had no real squid taste. The fish bean curd was soft but with the soup, you really can't taste it either.
Boyfriend had the beef brisket and fish meat spring roll. The brisket was very soft but the entire thing was so salty you really can't taste anything else. The noodles for him was also soggy and over cooked. The fish meat spring roll felt like a sponge.
Though portion was big, the food was not good at all. Way too salty that everything just felt like eating a bag of salt. Will not be back.
