Thai Chiu was once a small little restaurant that was located in Sham Shui Po. It also had a similar ghetto-like restaurant in Central's wet market area. It was there that I had some pretty decent Hainan chicken rice for a very low cost. Suddenly, it caught the eye of Michelin where it recommended it as a place for good cheap eats. And now years later, it now closed the original two shops and moved into shopping centers with a much nicer seating arrangement. And a lot of Michelin logos throughout
And a lot of Michelin logos throughout from their chopstick holders to their cups. Including the large Michelin man, his hands pressed together in Thai greeting.
Menu is in English and Chinese. They also now charge 10% when back before Michelin, they didn't. How times have changed. They have a la carte as well as dinner sets that you add a bit of money for a drink.
I had what I usually order from them, the Thai Chiu Hainannese chicken rice ($68). It was served in a heart shaped dish. And then I took a scoop of rice and sadness descended on me. The rice was bland. Absolutely no flavor. And just plain oily. The chicken was dry and so salty. Just way too salty. This dish broke my heart.
It came with spicy cucumbers which were very spicy but had a good crunch. The dipping sauce was just spicy with not other depth to it.
Boyfriend ordered the Green Curry in Thai Style with Rice ($68). This was super spicy but not much else. No coconut milk was detected. Just a big green spicy curry.
The food was not like it used to be. Though seating is now much better than before, the food went down in quality. Sad to know that a place that once served very good Thai is now just regular mall food.
