The $300 lunch that left me still really hungry

We were so excited to try Mashi no Mashi after seeing its Instagram page and what looked like colourful and delicious bowls of beef with egg and rice and udon noodles. We were so excited to try Mashi no Mashi after seeing its Instagram page and what looked like colourful and delicious bowls of beef with egg and rice and udon noodles. We tried to come two weeks ago, but arrived an hour after they opened and were told it'd be an hour-long wait, so we went somewhere else that day and decided to try again, this time showing up a few minutes before they opened. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is very sleek and clean. You order from a vending machine and then hand the ticket to the cook behind the counter. I ordered the beef and egg rice bowl, which was $180 as well as a 6 Wagyu gyoza dumplings, which was $120 -- that's right $120 for 6 dumplings!!! My friend order the cold udon noodles. I will say that the gyoza are cooked to perfection, very juicy and delicious. But for $120, I'd expect them to butcher the beer-fed cow in front of me and grind the meat fresh. The beef bowl is indeed beautiful and perfect for Instagram. But the serving itself is small, and there isn't anything particularly special about its taste. It was fine, but it wasn't mind blowing and certainly not worth $180. I mean, that's the most expensive bowl of rice I've ever eaten and it was only mamahuhu. I did have a taste of my friend's noodle dish. The udon was cooked perfectly, with a little hardness to it and the soup to dip it in was very flavourful. Definitely better than the beef bowl. The other thing is that the glasses of water they served for us was only filled 1/4 of the way. I mean if they're charging $300 for a lunch, surely they could serve customers a full glass of water. Mashi no Mashi is nice, but it's definitely overpriced for what it is. $300 is usually what I spend on a week's worth of groceris, and I can confidently say I can assemble a bowl of beef and egg over rice that tastes just as good if not better for $50. That said this place is still better value for money than that sorry excuse for a "Vietnamese pho" restaurant in Wan Chai called Spring Field. I'd gladly spend $300 at Mashi no Mashi instead of $150 at Spring Field any day. Hell, I'd borrow money from the bank to go to Mashi no Mashi rather than go to Spring Field again.
