High standard of goods and service is hard to be maintained in the hasty and demanding setting of Hong Kong, yet this is what I found in MON KEE (Wan Chai) during my recent visit in this rainy day.

With the incidental arrangement of returning to Wan Chai, I paid my morning visit here to fulfill my indispensable wish of having the signature scramble egg and noodle soup for breakfast. It has been an exact year since my last visit in the same store and I entered the café just to realise that it became much more relaxing and comfortable in relation to the overall atmosphere: there was no urging for order even though I haven’t placed mine immediately nor were there any unpleasant eye-contacts or gestures implying my slack attitude in placing orders which I used to receive. The welcoming atmosphere was coupled with the light music at the backdrop and the gentle food & beverage delivery on the tables.

In terms of food quality I really didn’t have much to comment on top of all the praises before me as the food was same delicious that represented exactly what I was craving for. The satisfying smiles 
 from my friend sitting opposite to me invaluably served as the icing on a cake that was a sublimation of what I could ever hope for.

Among others, it is people’s attitude that is all the more important to me as a diner. Imagine your food or drink was delivered onto your table violently with soup/tea/coffee spilt out on table and imagine your over-hearing the staff making personal or even discriminating comments towards the other diners, for me it would just render the environment and food quality of the café immaterial. Fortunately, what I experienced in MON KEE was the very opposite and I appreciated every staff in the venue to be always ready for offering help and friendliness to their customers and providing efficient service throughout my stay in the shop. I was particularly impressed by one of the waitresses with blonde hair that not only did she offer extensive help from her position to whoever customers in need, she also served with a big smile for which I guess everyone in the morning is hoping, apart from the physical cooking.

All in all, MON KEE has arguably been my best investment to have made for breakfast and the experience was essentially a reconciling Sun amid the stormy season.
