As boyfriend and I were in the Tseung Kwan O area, we decided to stop here for a late lunch (which was actually afternoon tea time) as we haven't had Thai in a while.Golden Thai is one of many restaurants located inside MCP mall. Golden Thai is one of many restaurants located inside MCP mall. From first glance, it didn't appear to be very big but when we went inside, there were a lot more seats behind the wall, making it a pretty huge establishment.
They had the tea set menu out as it was afternoon tea time. Menu is in Chinese only but there are photos of everything. Sets include a standard drink. You pay at the cashier so it felt a bit like a cha chan teng.
They also had lunch sets that cost only $55 and included a soup and side as well. This is fairly good deal.
I ordered from the tea set menu. This is noodles with Vietnamese sausage and grilled pork neck ($36). My original choice was a duck leg noodle but they had run out so I chose this one. It was not that great. The noodles were thick and big so it soaked up the soup way too quickly so it became soggy. The sausage just tasted like pepper. The pork neck didn't appear to be grilled. There wasn't much flavor and it looked like they just boiled it.
Boyfriend ordered the lunch set. He chose the white curry and pork chop rice ($55).
The soup he chose was a coconut chicken soup. This was decent enough. It had a rich coconut taste.
Side dish was a minced pork lettuce wrap. The mince pork was pretty spicy even though it didn't look like it. Otherwise, it was ok. Nicely seasoned. The lettuce was fresh.
The white curry was rich and flavorful. The pork was nicely fried and it was a fairly thick cut. The coating was super crunchy. This was definitely the thing to order.
Lunch set was a really excellent deal. All that for $55. Prices aren't expensive but the noodles weren't too good. So perhaps stick to the curry. Utensils were a bit dirty. There was still dried up food on our spoons and when we asked for a replacement, it was the same thing. Might be back due to the cheap prices.
