Boyfriend always wonders why we never eat in any of the numerous restaurants located near my home. I always tell him because it's usually over priced restaurants serving over hyped food that have been pimped on local media. Don't get me wrong. There are the odd gems near my home but most of them aren't all that great. It's basically a very local restaurant that serves various Cantonese dishes. Menu is in Chinese only. There is no English. Layout is like a cha chan teng. Boyfriend wanted to eat what was recommended on social media so this is what we ordered.
Sweet and Sour Pork ($88). Portion size wasn't very big but this was actually pretty good. The coating was crispy and the amount of coating wasn't so thick that it felt like I was eating fried flour. The pork was moist and not dried out. The balance of sweet and sour was alright though a bit bordering more on the sweet side. There was a lot of maltose used so it was stringy and sticky when picked up with your chopsticks. Usually most places use pineapple (or some sort of canned fruit) but this place used pickled pearl onions. Boyfriend loved this and chewed on them happily.
