As the cheapest Michelin star restaurant, I've heard many mixed reviews about Tim Ho Wan so I finally went to check it out with some visitors. Tim Ho Wan serves dim sum all day long so we ended up having dim sum for dinner! It was certainly very cheap with most dishes costing under $30. Baked Buns with BBQ Pork ($18) - with a crispy top and delicious BBQ pork filling, this was as good as everyone said it was. The price was very reasonable too. The other food though was very subpar. Steamed Pork with Preserved Vegetables Rice ($23) - pork was too dry with no flavor.
Chicken Feet ($25) - dry and plasticky while the sauce was not flavorful.
Glutinous Rice Dumpling ($25) - rice was really hard while the fillings were bland.
Verdict - aside from the baked buns with BBQ pork, the food was just cheap but not very good in the dim sum category. Much better places for dim sum in Hong Kong in my opinion. The baked buns were good but many restaurants can produce the same quality as well but with better environment and service. The restaurant was very no frills while the hygiene was not so great. There was a fly who kept hovering over our food and we had to keep swatting it away.
