KAKU offers Japanese/ Western fusion fine dining experience at a rather affordable price. The interior of the restaurant was well decorated and the dimly lit lights created a nice ambience. Definitely a good place for a date night! Take note though, the location is a little distance from Ho Man Tin station. You might want to opt to take a bus there instead of the MTR! KAKU is located at level 2 (first floor after G). Look for the lift to head up to Level 2.
Here, we opted for the 2 pax dinner tasting menu at HKD 888 for 2 pax - which included a daily soup/ bread, a starter, main and dessert each.
STARTER 1: CITRUS LEMONGRASS HAMACHI
This was a great dish to start the evening. The hamachi was extremely fresh with a nice citrus zest to it. You could taste a small tinge of lemongrass flavour as you chew on the fish. Bonus points for the sashimi being nice thick cuts!
STARTER 2: AUSTRALIA WAGYU BEEF TARTARE
Next up was the beef tartare. This was a great combination that provided punch after punch of umami and freshness. Never have I thought that beef and quail egg would go so well together!
MAIN 1: SAIKYO MISO YAKI BLAKC COD WITH MANGO SASA
This was easily my favourite dish of the night. Miso Cod is a classic staple at most Japanese restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised at how the restaurant manage to add a twist to this classic. The cod was cooked perfectly, with the flaky meat pairing extremely well with the tangy mango salsa and the earthy mushrooms.
MAIN 2: SLOW COOK SUKIYAKI KAGOSHIMA PORK BELLY
We opted for this for our second meal as we were craving some pork belly. Do not let the picture deceive you! The meat might have came in thick chunks, but they were extremely soft and tender due to the slow cooking process. A nice way to wrap up the mains!
DESSERT: CHEESE CAKE & CHOCOLATE CAKE
Both the dessert were made in house. The cheesecake was creamy without being too heavy, while the chocolate cake had a rich dark chocolate taste to it.
