Boxing Day and we went to Shatin to explore the Christmas decorations. But first, food! We saw a place called 小胖台灣便當 (English name: Chubby Bento). The name seemed amusing so we took a closer look.Menu in Chinese only. There is no English and no 10% service charge. Usually I don't talk about the set drinks because there aren't that much to talk about but ... this was good. I had the hot yuzu tea and wow ... they added a lot of yuzu and homongenized well instead of like most places where it was just the water on top and the precipitated yuzu mixture on the bottom. It also was very sour.
For $12, you can add a snack. We did and added a Taiwanese Salt and Pepper Popcorn Chicken. Very well seasoned. The chicken meat was still tender and juicy while the outside coating was crunchy. They even threw in some deep fried basil.
I had the Fried Chicken Bento ($62). Everything was laid on a bed of rice. There was corn niblets, bok choy, some sweet pork floss, half an omelette and some mince pork. The chicken was nicely cut in half so it was easier to eat and also making it easier so we could share out items. The chicken was really good. Heavily seasoned with salt and pepper, it did taste like the salt and pepper popcorn chicken. The skin was very crunchy and the meat was juicy. There was a good amount of sweet soysauce to flavor the rice.
Boyfriend had the Fried Pork Chop Bento ($62). The same items as mine except his vegetable was not bok choy but Chinese cabbage. The pork chop was well seasoned and still tender. Everything was nicely sliced.
Food portion was generous enough to not leave hungry. The items tasted delicious and it was reasonably priced. I'd be back.
