I was walking around Tai Koo Shing over the weekend and walked inside Tai On Building. After a good 30 minutes, I went back to the shop and saw that the shop lady was prepping her stall and rearranging things around. I asked how much longer did she need to get the fire starting and she said 10 more minutes so I walked around some more.
Their egg waffles are indeed pretty famous. They were even featured in an article at CNN Go back in September 2010 featuring the owner in a Gai Dan Tsai Challenge and was later awarded in 2012 as Best Restaurant in Eastern by OR. Unfortunately, the father had to retire and handed the reigns down to his daughter and I must say, her memory is so impeccable. People were lining up and telling their orders and she just memorizes it like it's an everyday thing. You can definitely see how experienced she is.
Cooking time for these snacks takes 4 to 5 minutes but when I got there unfortunately, a crowd had already formed so I had to do a lot more waiting to sink my teeth into their famous delectables. I noticed that most of the customers ordered the original egg waffle ($20), so I did too and there were some who ordered the Chinese-style waffles ($23) slathered with peanut butter and oh-so-sweet condensed milk. What a meal! You can also top those Chinese-style waffles with Chocolate sauce or Strawberry sauce. Be warned that the strawberry one tends to go out fast from what I heard from her loyal customers.

My first bite gave me a weird impression because I wasn't used to eating with a "full" shell. The ones that I usually have are hollow and those left me feeling unsatisfied. After taking a bite out of these, I'm officially one of their loyalists. It seems as though the owner uses plenty of eggs giving them heft and flavor. Each bite into these tiny morsels remind me of specialized cake rolls with moistness and firmness. It was so good it's definitely worth the 50 something minutes. I will definitely be back!
