Recently there have been a lot of solo yakiniku restaurants that have opened. You basically order a set of meat and will come with rice and a side. Prices are not expensive and dependent on the grade of beef. Some are originally from Japan and some are locally owned. Yakiniku 801 is another one and is locally owned. Inside there are small tables all with  small grill. There is a chimney for ventilation.

On the wall is where you find hot tea, cups an extra plates, napkins and aprons. The only seasoning they provide is Lemesco and fresh lemon juice.

Menu is in English, Japanese and Chinese. You order by scanning a QR code that is also in English, Chinese and Japanese. It was fairly straight forward to use and went smoothly. They have a 70 minute dine in period. Also, during lunch time, the rice and miso soup is free. Otherwise to  become a set, you must add money. They have various a la carte orders as well so it is suitable for a group to share.

We decided to order two sets to share.

This is the Signature 801 (single portion, $198). This had Wagyu Beef Shoulder, Premium Beef Short Rib and Salt Chive Chicken Thigh.

The chicken was really excellent. I'm often not a big fan of chicken for yakiniku but this chicken had flavour. It was moist and tender. The seasoning was on point. The short rib had a good beef flavour and very tender.

The Wagyu beef shoulder was one large thin slice.  Not too fat with nice marbelization. It seared quickly and melted in your mouth easily.

It was served with an onsen egg instead of a raw egg. I guess for hygenic reasons as most don't like eating raw eggs. Plus, it might cater to tourists who aren't used to raw eggs. I wasnt too used to not having it raw so boyfriend ended up just mixing it with his rice.

The other set was Ox Tongue (single portion, $98). You get five portions with salt and five portions with sauce. A decent size portion as I've ordered this in other places and you don't get as much per serving. It also was really good. The tongue was still tender even the pieces I forgot about and over cooked. The salt one still had flavour. The sauce was not too over powering as well.

I didn't want rice so I upgraded to Cold Noodles ($38). This came with a bit of kimchi that was not too spicy. The noodles were fantastic. Very springy and smooth. Refreshing with a cold citrusy tasting soup. There was some pickled cucumbers on top along with a hard boiled egg.

I finished with Almond Tofu ($28) because I love almond tofu. I order it whenever I see it on the menu. And not that many places in Hong Kong offer this. Smooth and lightly sweet with a taste of almond.

A very convenient location with prices not too expensive. Quality was really good as well as generous portions. Will be back.
