It is my second visit to Let's Jam, my first one was roughly a year ago with overall positive experience based on the all-day breakfast. We, altogether three people plus a dog arrived at the restaurant at about 7pm for an early, light supper, and settled down at an outdoor table for four. We, altogether three people plus a dog arrived at the restaurant at about 7pm for an early, light supper, and settled down at an outdoor table for four. There was no menu so we waited for a few minutes and my friend decided to ask for the menu.
My two friends ordered all-day breakfast with iced drinks, while I ordered smoked salmon egg benedict with iced black tea.
The drinks arrived in five minutes, and the all-day breakfast came in another ten minutes. The waiter came only with the dish without any eating utensil, so my friend had to remind him for that. The all-day breakfast was alright, my friends felt full because of the cheese scrambled egg.
I waited patiently for the smoked salmon egg benedict, lucky enough to have a big electric fan to cool myself down in this humid weather. It turned out that the egg benedict arrived twenty minutes after we placed our order. There were two benedicts in my dish, served with salad. My first impression on the dish is that the eggs were runny (with one broken yolk), pretty different from the traditional British classic representation. I noted the hollandaise sauce so I thought it was still fine, the chef should know the way to make the dish. I proceeded to cut open the broken egg benedict to reveal more liquid yolk, which meant that the egg is well undercooked. Strangely enough, underneath the mess of liquid egg white and hollandaise sauce, I found a piece of circular onion above the smoked salmon. Then I realized that the piece of onion has the purpose to hold the undercooked egg in place. The muffin was crispy like biscuit. When I finally tasted a mouthful of the dish, it was cold and lacked seasoning.
Feeling dissatisfied with the dish, we gave feedback to the waitress when we paid the bill, telling her that the egg was well undercooked. The waitress explained that the eggs were 'hot spring eggs' and that was why the eggs were so runny.
If you look for a fine representation of British classic dish - egg benedict with a properly poached egg, this probably would not be the right place for you.
Explanation for the scores:
Taste - 2
The egg benedict lacked seasoning, was served cold with crispy muffin and the eggs were well undercooked. Yet the all-day breakfast was fine with no specific comment from my friends.
Environment - 3
Although we sat at the outdoor dining area in summer, there was a large electric fan beside us. The dishware looked fancy; there were wooden dining tables and chairs - everything was designed in the fancy way.
Service - 2
Waiters were not attentive to customer needs. Twice we reminded them for the menu and the eating utensils. The restaurant asks for 10% service charge on weekends and public holidays and seemed not ready to serve.
Hygiene - 3
The tables, chairs and floor were wooden with no noticeable dirt mark.
Value for money - 2
Given the sub-standard service quality and below average food quality, I had to give it a 2.
