This is the second time I’ve been to Coco Ichibanya and I can safely say that it did not disappoint me. Upon arrival it was still quite early for dinnertime and hence only a few tables were occupied, though by the end of the meal the restaurant was nearly full.Looking at the menu, you’ll find a vast array of different kinds of curry, which are all customisable according to spiciness, amount of rice, and additional toppings (at an extra price, of course). Looking at the menu, you’ll find a vast array of different kinds of curry, which are all customisable according to spiciness, amount of rice, and additional toppings (at an extra price, of course). You can even opt for less rice which deducts money from the price of the dish. Furthermore, you can also add with your chosen dish set meals consisting of either 2, 3 or 4 items (soup, salad, dessert and a soft drink). We chose the 2 item set meal which costs HK$ 15- which was definitely a deal as a drink on its own costs at least HK$18.
For the curries, we chose a Beef Omelette Curry, and a Pork Cutlet Omelette Curry.
The Pork cutlet curry, pictured above, arrived at a perfectly hot temperature. The omelette was silky smooth and went well with the curry sauce (we did not ask for any modifications to the sauce and so the sauce, like most Japanese curries, was quite mild tasting.) The pork cutlet was also cooked well and was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I also liked how there were quite a lot of pieces in proportion to the rice served, so that each bite of the curry, rice, and omelette could also be eaten with a chunk of the pork.
The Beef Omelette curry was delicious- the curry sauce was of a creamier consistency than that of the previous dish, which paired exceptionally well with the smooth omelette. The slices of beef were thin and came with sweet slices of onion- in my opinion beef and onion are a match made in heaven so I was happy about that. I also paired my dish with some pickles which are available in a little box on each table in the restaurant.Overall we spent $85 per set, which is quite reasonable considering how full I felt afterwards!
Coco Ichibanya, I will be back again for more delicious Japanese curries in the future.
