I recently visited Uncle Padak on High Street in Sai Ying Pun and unfortunately, my experience was not up to par with my previous visits. Upon arrival, I noticed that there were new faces and new refurbishments; I wondered if there had been a change in ownership. Although this did not affect my dining experience, the quality of the food did.I ordered the fried chicken, kimchi pancake, and kimchi fried rice. I ordered the fried chicken, kimchi pancake, and kimchi fried rice. The chicken was freshly made, but it was disappointing to find that the sauce was served separately and in rather insufficient portions. When we requested more sauce, we were informed that it would cost an additional $10, which was disappointing.
The kimchi pancake was also a letdown. It was too soft, almost like a doughy ball, and lacked the crispiness that is expected of a good pancake. The seasoning was not terrible, but it did not make up for the texture.
On a positive note, the kimchi fried rice was the only dish that stood out. It was served hot, in a generous portion, and had a good amount of food in it. However, the overall quality of the food was disappointing for the price.
When we asked for a to-go box, we were charged an additional $4, which seemed unreasonable for a paper box. I wondered if this was an attempt to encourage customers to finish their food on the spot.
In conclusion, my recent visit to Uncle Padak was not as enjoyable as previous ones. Although the food was freshly made, the portions of sauce were insufficient, the kimchi pancake was too soft, and the to-go box charge was unreasonable. Hopefully, these issues can be addressed in the future to provide a better dining experience.
