While new and expensive restaurants are landing in Kennedy Town, we can still find classical budget eateries in Western District such as this金興潮洲飯店. Unlike Chiuchow Garden run by Maxim’s Group, one have to lower his/her expectations in both the environment and hygiene in this local restaurant.
Although only charging at $100 per head, some of the dishes are overcharged with a low price-quality ratio.
a) Goose Marinated in Chiu Chow Brine ($100) – 7/10
The good thing was that the goose was not very fat, however, the slices of meat was quite dry.b) Giblets and Cuttlefish Marinated in Chiu Chow Brine ($100) – 7/10
I couldn’t imagine a dish of mixed giblets with slices of Chinese sausage and cuttlefish matched the price in Mongkok or Causeway Bay. The brine was mild in general that made the food less appealing.c) Sauteed Sweet Potato Leaves ($40) – 6/10
Looked like Chinese spinach more, these sautéed sweet potato leaves were too old that many of them were with rough tissues.d) Pan-fry Bitter Melon and Egg ($50) – 7/10
Credit went to duck egg used, however, a single egg was not enough to make a decent dish.e) Leek Greens and Pig’s Blood ($40) – 7.5/10
Some of the Chiu Chow eateries serve this dish lukewarm, however, I was happy to have a hot bowl here.f) Deep Fried Oyster Omlette ($60) – 8/10
The best dish in the night – slightly crispy rim, good enough miniature oysters and spring onion.11.2013
